Originally posted by kevin954: [QB] yeah, its true that the UN is corrupt in a lot of ways, and I wouldn't advocate America start bending to their wishes. but pure unilaterlism is not the answer either, "the coalition of the willing" is composed of countries that are litteraly being paid to fight with America, along with a few (England,Australlia) whose leaders are doing it to appease Bush. the fact is, the war in Iraq spread hatered a hell of a lot more then it defeated it. The war in Iraq, the way it was carried out, did not make America safer. Had John Kerry, or even Clinton been at the helm, they would have not gone into Iraq without the unpaid approval of most if not all of your allies, especially considering the mickey mouse "intelligence" that the notion of an 'immediate threat' was based upon. Canada would like to stand with America because our countries are fairly dependent on one another. If we closed our borders on one another, BOTH of our economies would be crippled. Whats good for one of us, is good for both of us. Its just that America's present leadership isn't too keen about thinking in terms of alliances and interdepedencies, at least not unless these alliances do exactly what America says (not very alliance like). I'd love a John Kerry victory, where America and Canada and the rest of the world could stand as one united voice against terror in the world. Fighting the root causes of terrorism (which sometimes involve American\western foreign policy) with enlightened military power instead of cow boy diplomacy. - Kevin [/QB]
