The left-wing stance seems to be that rich people effectively mobilized the lower and less-informed classes in a succesful attempt to direct their anger at the rich class in Britain instead of in the US. They claim that it really wasn't that much of a revolution and that it got rid of one ruling class in favour of another, who then made a gov't and a constitution that would cement the rights and abilities of the ruling class to govern. I can't say that I know too much about the whole affair....

Hellooooo... I've been out-of-town!

Oh my, we really must stop meeting like this!! Enjoy it but I don't have the time for all this!! Particularly since I'm not a Professor and not real handy with the internet. I still have encyclopedia's!! Great for history... not good for modern news.

Although my husband did recently show me some great medical websites. Kind of cool.

Anyway, I'll write more maybe next weeek but just a quick reply here...

You know Hasmir. Sooo many people are never happy. They constantly look for that greener pasture. They could be sitting smack in the middle of the greenest pasture possible... and still they will complain. I don't get it. I for one am one happy cow in this very fine pasture called America.

I've got an idea. For all those whinning, complaining Americans... let's have them switch citizenship with the illegals who cross over our deserts, many dieing in the heat for the chance at a life in America.
We're talking close to a hundred thousand a year who ATTEMPT that risk just for the chance... the hope that IF they aren't caught by the border patrol, and once that desert is crossed, that they can blend into American society and stay forever. Blows my mind.

Good-night!!

I'm not sure what you mean here Tick, are you mixing personal happiness with political realities? Totally different things obviously, did I misunderstand... And yes I would agree, a lot of people live in places a lot worse than America...But again I'm not sure what you mean

Hi Hasmir and Ticker2,
We haven't met yet cuz I've been offline for awhile doing a relocation. I should have just payed somebody else to do it and worked the market, but i have this tendancy to "do it myself" mostly cuz-- then it gets done the way i want(whether that's the right way or not is always open to debate)...LOL
I assume you are referring to the recent PUBLIC TV special on the revolution, which i have heard a little bit about, but didn't get to watch cuz i was so busy.....

i have always been amused at the way history is presented as a collection of facts. We can't even get the (current) truths right today with hundreds of thousands of "professional" journalists trying to find them. By starting off with "The left-wing stance seems to be that rich people" you have already made two sterotypical statements that are definitely not congruent. Firstly there are plenty of RICH left-wingers, so the implication that there is some opposition of rich people by left wingers doesn't fly. By European standards there were no rich people in the America's at the time. There wasn't even very many people in America at the time, so it couldn't have been a BIG revolution by most standards. As in all revolutions, it really does come down to division of wealth (power). At the risk of oversimplifying, i would suggest that the Founding Fathers simply refused to pay their taxes and told the King that he couldn't make'em......The "small" people had relatively light "direct" tax burdens, so it wasn't a big issue to them.....Remember, money itself was very scarce. There are some very disturbing (propaganda-LOL) statements -such as "All men are created equal" written by slaveowners-- that demonstrate not just how the language changes over time but human perception changes over time.
I am not trying to say the history books have it right... I am sure they don't, but when "revisionists" step in 200 years later and try to change "interpretations" of history drastically, there tends to be a political ax being ground, rather than some new truths being uncovered.
A few years back a constitutional law scholar published a treatise attempting to "prove" that the constitution did not grant the citizens the PRIVATE right to bear arms. The left-wingers adopted this publication without question and even managed to get this LIE taught in high-schools around the country. I was furious when my 14-year-old daughter came home from school spouting this crap. I was pleased to inform her that the supposed scholar who had written this treatise had been FIRED from his tenured Professorship the previous year for lying, providing false data and false references in the publication. He actually referenced Federal gun ownership records that had been destroyed in the BIG San Francisco earth-quake and fire......

Basically, IMO, there are only two kinds of people...LOL, Liars and Damn Liars

As far as this America Love it or Leave It attitude I keep running into, i would suggest that anybody who has LOVE in them is always looking to improve not just themselves and the people they love, but the world they live in.......no matter how good things already are......

Yes I agree, love is a good thing (!?).
I am trying to talk history.

The replies are always "why do you hate america" or "people complain too much". Would you take such an uninformed attitude about, say, the theory of gravity? Why do people complain so much about stuff falling? Has it ever occurred to you that maybe they are trying to learn something? To enlighten themselves and maybe even (GASP) change their opinion on something?

"I've got an idea. For all those whinning, complaining Americans... let's have them switch citizenship with the illegals who cross over our deserts, many dieing in the heat for the chance at a life in America."

I have a better idea. Try being a little more tolerant of people who disagree with you, and a little more open-minded with matters as serious as these. If you don't turn on to politics....

in another thread Hasmir, you said that you periceved politically idealogical differences being defiened by what appeared to you to be the old civil war boundaries. i think a better model to work with would be religious demographics. i have not done any direct( statistical) research, but having lived in a wide variety of places thru my life, i have observed that in areas where people tend to go to church and actively participate in their church, they tend to vote conservatively. i spent almost ten years as a neighbor of Pat Robertson. his mix of politics, business and religion turned my stomach. i am a republican and so is he----but this is a man that managed to get serious tax breaks for supposedly non-profit and for-profit businesses that he used his religious organisations (700 club etc.) to advertise in.... extreme wealth earned through religious activity was addressed DIRECTLY by JESUS......

after Bob Dole's defeat by clinton,--(one of the low points in US history--IMO)--the repblicans sat down and decided that they needed the pat robertsons of the party to step back from the front of the stage....party estimates are that the true religious conservatives only represented 5-6% of the party in the mid-nineties. the feeling(rightfully IMO)was that these guys were out of touch with the common man.....
more importantly, to me anyway, is the feeling i was starting to get , and it continues to increase is that there is something fundamental to Christianity that is being left behind as these religious leaders move forward with their plans---I AM A SINNER---we all are--- i am becoming increasingly uncomfortable that religious leaders are finding it harder and harder to admit this to the general public and even worse--to themselves....nothing scares me more than righteousnous...whether it is a racecar driver, a nation or a minister/mullah.....
