Dump those old programs you no longer use, get rid of games that don't get played, and take the time to defrag your computer. You'll love the results. Also, make sure you dump Temporary internet pages regularly and clear your event viewer daily. This will help keep you operating at peak efficiency. Speed, speed, speed..........

Configuring Windows Services also helps ALOT. This webpage has excellent info and how-to for Windows XP and 2000.
If you want to get more technical you can edit the registry to clear your temp and pagefile automatically. If anyone wants more info on this subject let me know and I will give you my e-mail addy.
Also defragmenting weekly doesn't hurt.
