Anyone who knows more than me, If all the dividends are released on a quartly basis at very regular intevals, which most seem to be. what would be the problem with investing in stocks with a decent dividend rate, say a day or two before the declared dividend? Just till you get the payout and sell. Usually the stock is rising at that time anyway.

Part b. If there is a "payable to stock holders of this date" and
actual payment a week later, if you sell a day after the "payable date" you are still entitled to the dividend right?

thanks for your help in advance.
PS. i realize that the dividend is a small fraction of the price of the stock just looking for the safe money making plays.

please read up on ex dividend dates. you can google it. the stock price gets reduced be the amount of the div on the ex date so your net gain is 0 plus or minus any price fluctuation on that day. ie..XYZ pays 1.00 div this quarter stock is at 20. you buy at 20 and the next day is ex div, the stock opens at 19 plus or minus and regular price movements with the adjustment.
