Normaly it is when the price a stock is bid or ask at the close at say .10 then before the markets open it will show a higher price sy .15 or .20.

So, when you see indicators that a gap up will occur, it is smart to play them by getting in prior to market close.I have seen that a lot just wasn't sure what it was called.
