Law Enforcement Associates and Smith & Wesson Corp. Enter Licensing Agreement
2006-08-17 09:10 ET - News Release
YOUNGSVILLE, N.C., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Law Enforcement Associates Corporation (LEA) , a leading provider of surveillance and security products to the global law enforcement, military, security and corrections markets, today announced it has entered a worldwide product licensing agreement with Smith & Wesson Corp., the 154-year old global provider of products and services for safety, security, protection and sport.
Pursuant to the agreement, LEA will utilize the Smith & Wesson brand and logo to market globally its Explosive Detection Kit (EDK) product line, as well as its recently introduced UVI Swift, a compact and portable under- vehicle inspection system. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Paul Feldman, president of LEA, said, "Smith & Wesson is one of the world's most recognized and respected brands, particularly within the security and law enforcement industries. While LEA has established strong relationships and awareness within our traditional target markets, our presence is less known within a variety of ancillary industries that we believe represent major opportunities for LEA. We are confident the legendary Smith & Wesson brand will give us important leverage as we work to build market share in sectors such as private security, public transit and facilities management. We expect the first of these exciting new products to be available in late 2006."
Smith & Wesson's vice president of Licensing, Bobbie Hunnicutt, said, "Law Enforcement Associates is a recognized name in professional security and military organizations. Our strategy to become a leader in safety, security, protection and sport represents a tremendous opportunity for our companies to work together to bring state-of-the-art security technology, and the strength of the Smith & Wesson brand to customers throughout the world."
Feldman added, "We have developed a solid working relationship with Smith & Wesson, and our marketing teams are considering a variety of additional LEA products that could be folded into this agreement."

ALISO VIEJO, CA, Aug 15, 2006 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) --
Joystar, Inc (OTCBB: JYSR), a leading seller of cruises and vacation packages and host to thousands of independent travel agents, today announced results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2006.
William Alverson, Chairman and CEO, commented, "We're very pleased to report our seventh sequential quarter of double-digit revenue growth and the first quarter of profitability in the Company's history.
"We're in a very good place now as our technology platform and service infrastructure is firmly in place. We are equipped to add thousands more travel agents to our network with minimal incremental cost. With more and more travel agents joining our network, our membership revenues increase as do gross bookings and commission levels. We expect greater profitability in the future as this trend continues.
"Our new membership rate increased 43% sequentially from 374 agents in the first quarter to 536 agents in the second quarter. To stay in our leadership position as the travel industry's premier partner to independent travel agencies, we are going to be much more aggressive in our agent recruitment strategy and also take a much more proactive role in helping our agents build their businesses. We have several initiatives underway that will provide measurable impact on our agents' success including comprehensive training, company-sponsored lead generation programs, and high margin product development.
"We will also focus on fine-tuning operations and the economies of scale that such a large network of virtual travel agents offers. We invested millions of dollars over the past few years to capitalize on this rapidly emerging model and most of the developmental costs associated with catering to thousands of travel agents are behind us. Of course, we will continue to invest in the long-term and on complementary business models."
Discussion of Results For Three Months and Six Months Ended June 30, 2006:
Gross Travel Bookings
Gross travel bookings for the six months ended June 30, 2006 increased 612% to $33,056,000 compared to $4,643,665 for the six months ended June 30, 2005.
Revenues
Revenues for the six months ended June 30, 2006 increased 874% to $4,736,000 compared to $486,000 for the six months ended June 30, 2005. The increase of $4,250,000 is due to the substantial increase in professional travel agent membership and higher commission levels from our preferred suppliers.
Revenues increased sequentially 17% to $2,553,579 compared to $2,182,672 for the quarter ended March 31, 2006. This represents the seventh sequential quarter of double-digit revenue growth.
Revenue Margins
Revenue margins (defined as net revenue as a percentage of gross bookings) for the three months ended June 30, 2006 increased to 16% compared to 11.5% for the three months ended June 30, 2005. The 39% increase in revenue margin is due to substantial increases in both commission levels and membership fees. We believe revenue margins will continue to increase as our fee-based membership grows and as we negotiate better commissions and overrides with more and more travel suppliers.
Profitability
Net income for the three months ended June 30, 2006 was $90,353 compared to a net loss of $812,298 for the three months ended June 30, 2005. This represents the first profitable quarter in the Company's history.
Liquidity
At June 30, 2006 the Company had a cash balance of $691,416 as compared to a cash balance of $218,948 at December 31, 2005.
