Ok, here is a winner that imo has the potential to go over $1 from its current price in the mid teens....STTK.

I don't know if any of you have noticed, but sadly, the bird flu is exploding. Just this last week 5 new countries had their first case of it, from Europe to Africa now. In fact the Europeon union just yesterday announced a large summit on what they will do to battle this horrible disease. It is only matter of time imo before this hits North America, and if you noticed today some of the bird plays are really starting to pick up like NVAX and GNBT. This is the first time that I have noticed bird flu plays starting to get some play.

Last fall STTK ran from .08 to over .80 on bird flu hype, and I have it direct that within a week or so STTK will be releasing news on their planned test trials of its RFID monitoring and tracking technologies at select poultry farms in China, against the possible spread of the H5N1 Avian Influenza. They are conducting these trials as I write this, and so far it is going great. With this p.r. release to go along with the coming bird flu pandemic and conncurrent massive hype in the stock market for bird flu plays, STTK is poised to be a HUGE play here. Just huge.

I think anything bought under .30, yes .30 is a GREAT buy here. The stock moves like a rocket, so be ready. The ask is very thin and it wont take much to move this.

This will be an excellent runner for the next couple days imo if not into next week. Big hype about bird flu starting again as more and more cases are being found all across Europe. Notice how the stock ran to .8 with the bird flu hype last time. This along with expected news could send this past 1.00, imo.

Excellent chart forming with first day of increased volume and bullish candle indicating further volume and breakout. Loaded up today and will be looking to add big blocks to my position tommorow. GLTA

Health Experts Concerned About Bird Flu

By ALEXANDER G. HIGGINS, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 46 minutes ago

GENEVA - The unprecedented spread of bird flu to 14 more countries in the past three weeks brings the disease closer to millions of people, giving it many more chances to mutate into a global outbreak, international health experts said Tuesday.

Fourteen countries — from India to Nigeria and Egypt to France — have reported their first cases of birds infected with the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu since the beginning of February, the
World Health Organization said.

"We've never seen so many outbreaks of the same virus in so many different regions," WHO spokeswoman Maria Cheng told The Associated Press. "Our concern obviously is that humans could potentially come into contact with birds infected with H5N1, which would mean populations worldwide are potentially at risk."

WHO says it remains difficult for humans to catch H5N1. The agency has confirmed 170 human cases, including 92 deaths, since 2003 — mostly in east Asia. But WHO experts fear that the virus could mutate into a form that is easily transmitted from person to person and set off a flu pandemic.

Many of the recent outbreaks were in Europe, where wild birds have tested positive for the disease. Tests confirmed Tuesday that three dead swans found in Hungary were infected with the H5N1 strain, making it the seventh
European Union nation to confirm the disease in birds.

The 1,000-year-old Tower of London moved its famous six ravens inside for protection. Britain so far has been spared, but wardens were taking no chances — legend holds that the British monarchy will fall if the ravens ever leave the Tower.

"It's purely precautionary," Derrick Coyle, the tower's Yeoman Raven Master, said Tuesday.

The zoo at Paris' Jardin des Plantes also closed its aviary on Tuesday and another on the city's outskirts took measures to keep its flamingos from mixing with wild ducks.

But poultry cases in India, Egypt and Nigeria are causing international health authorities more concern because of the close contact chickens and other domestic fowl can have with people who keep them around their homes, increasing the chance of the disease jumping the species barrier.

"At the moment we don't have very good information about how extensive these outbreaks are," said Cheng.

So far, she noted, there have no human cases reported in those countries or Nigeria nor in Western Europe.

In western India's Navapur district, where nearly 800,000 birds are to be killed following an outbreak of H5N1 in poultry, farmers distraught over their losses asked how they would survive.

"It is a question of livelihood for 5,000 families," said Ghulam Vhora, a member of a Navapur poultry farmers association, after his 30,000 birds were killed. "We are all jobless."

WHO said the 14 countries that have had outbreaks since the beginning of February — in order of reporting — are
Iraq, Nigeria, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Slovenia,
Iran, Austria, Germany, Egypt, India, France, and Hungary.

Indonesia, which has had 26 human cases since July, including 19 deaths reported by WHO, is also a primary concern because of the high infection rates among birds and people. Indonesia's Health Ministry reported the death of a 27-year-old woman died on Wednesday, which — if confirmed by WHO — would bring the country's total to 20.

"The more chances H5N1 has to infect people, the more chances it has to evolve into a form that could spark a pandemic," Cheng said. "And the place we're seeing the most human infections right now is Indonesia."

Juan Lubroth, head of the infectious disease group at the U.N.'s Rome-based Food and Agriculture Organization, said he was concerned about outbreaks in Africa, but "I do not want to lose focus on the situation that we have in Indonesia. There is a national strategy in Indonesia. Now we just have to implement it."

Vietnam has the highest number of confirmed human cases of H5N1 since 2003, with 93 people infected and 42 deaths, but none of Vietnam's cases have been this year.

Even though Nigeria and Egypt — the two most populous countries in Africa — have reported no human cases, people might still be infected there, said Dick Thompson, another WHO spokesman. Sometimes initial tests come back negative for H5N1, and the tests have to be redone to make sure the disease is really absent.

"As long as the virus is circulating, it could jump into humans," he added.

Maria Zampaglione, spokeswoman for the Paris-based World Organization for Animal Health, said one reason that so many outbreaks were being reported is because of increased global awareness.

"It is certainly not the first time that these wild birds are crossing countries," she said. "Now it is so crucial and they are monitored so well that every single case is investigated."

STTk bird flu news.........

Smart-tek Communications Inc. Completes RFID Tracking Alert and Containment System -- System Readied to Begin Test Trials in Efforts to Contain Deadly Bird Flu

By PrimeZone
Last Update: 2/24/2006 4:00:18 PM Data provided by

CORTE MADERA, Calif., Feb 24, 2006 (PRIMEZONE via COMTEX) -- Smart-tek Communications Inc. announced today the completion of its RFID tracking and containment system for its parent company, Smart-tek Solutions, Inc. (STTK).

The system, "RTAC-PM," short for "RFID Tracking Alert Containment and Poultry Monitoring," was designed for livestock monitoring and is targeted specifically for the poultry industry in conjunction with attempts to contain the possible spread of the H5N1 Avian Influenza. The RTAC-PM system incorporates leading edge technology and is customized around our customers' requirements with the flexibility to adapt to various types of OEM products.

"At its core, the RTAC-PM System utilizes the Internet to report detailed, real-time information about events in the poultry supply-chain to a central monitoring station," said Perry Law, President of Smart-tek Communications, Inc. "The system allows a central agency to monitor the flow of product over an arbitrary area, from a small town all the way up to an entire country. With built-in alert monitoring protocols, the RTAC-PM system provides instant alert notification of events that could indicate anomalies that, subject to investigation protocols, could indicate the onset of disease outbreak to the central agency."

Law said the RTAC-PM system will provide information that is vital to the central agency, allowing them to rapidly respond to threats of disease outbreak. Alert events include excessive mortality rates during growth, and unusual patterns of movement that could signify an attempt to cover-up disease outbreaks by poultry farmers. Alert events will allow the central agency to dispatch inspectors to investigate, thus focusing monitoring efforts on the areas most likely to be at risk.

"In the poultry industry, there are only a few stages of the production cycle," added Law. "With eggs from the egg supplier, chick producers produce the newborn chicks which are then sent to a farm where the birds are fed and grown. Once the chicken crop reaches maturity, they are processed. The entire life cycle from chick to maturity is only approximately eight weeks.

"Information about the production cycle of each specific flock is captured and recorded at the chick producer, growing farm and processing plant. Utilizing our customized tags and tagging equipment, the RFID bird tag is designed to allow for bird growth and durability. Our unique tag is re-useable for many crops. Information such as date of birth, birth location, breed, and farmer information can be collected by the central government agency, and available to authorized users via the Internet."

In addition to recording the movements of the birds themselves, the RTAC-PM system can also track the movements of containers, cages, and trucks used to transport poultry among the various facilities involved in the production process. Furthermore, the system will be capable of tracking the finished product (both for domestic and export consumption) all the way to the consumer, providing complete traceability from egg to supermarket, making this the most advanced tracking system in any food-related industry.

"Through superior application of world-class RFID and information technologies, the end result of our system will be to provide the central agency with the tools it needs to monitor poultry movement. With agency-designed alerts, the RTAC-PM system will allow the deployment of agency protocols to rapidly and effectively contain an outbreak of disease," Law said.

Working in cooperation with other industry best-practices for the prevention and containment of disease, the RTAC-PM System is expected to be an invaluable asset to any governmental agency responsible for the safety of the food supply and preventing the spread of Avian Flu.

The Company also announced that it is now ready to move forward with the test trials of the RTAC-PM system in China in March 2006 and not in February as previously anticipated.

"Everything is now in place to launch definitive testing in mid-March," said Law. "At that time we will be conducting two tests/demos with various government agencies and authorities. While we are disappointed in the scheduling delays, we are charting some new territory and we want to be assured that our system is operating to the exacting standards required to achieve desired results."

Smart-tek Solutions, Inc. Completes Successful Demonstration in China of Its Proprietary System to Monitor Poultry Flocks That May Be Subject to Avian Flu
Government Officials Request Costs -- Indicate Commitment to Recommend Implementation of RFID Tracking and Containment System to Central Government
Mar 21, 2006 10:05:00 AM
2006 PrimeZone Media Network
CORTE MADERA, Calif., March 21, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Smart-tek Communications, Inc. announced today the successful completion of a demonstration in the People's Republic of China of its RFID tracking and containment system for its parent company, Smart-tek Solutions, Inc (OTCBB:STTK).

"This is a huge step forward in the marketing of our proprietary technology solution to the world," said Perry Law, president of Smart-tek Communications, Inc. "The potential dollar value of this industry segment is in the hundreds of millions of dollars and, with a viable solution developed by our Company to penetrate this market, it may provide the Company and its shareholders with a tremendous opportunity for growth," said Law.

More than 50 government, academic and industry experts attended the demonstrations which were conducted in Beijing. Additionally, numerous media, including CCTV (China Central TV -- the largest state-owned television broadcaster) were on hand.

"With an estimated 13 billion chickens in China, this is such an extremely critical issue that there was a very high level of interest on the part of the governmental officials who attended," said Perry Law. "The general consensus was that they view the RTAC-PM (short for 'RFID Tracking Alert Containment and Poultry Monitoring) system as a viable method to monitor the threat of the deadly bird flu virus. The next step in the process is for Smart-tek to provide specific costing budgets required to implement the system according to client specifications. All indications are that the governmental officials in attendance would recommend the system to the central government."

The system, "RTAC-PM," was designed for the livestock industry and is targeted specifically for the poultry industry with user-defined alerts that may assist governmental agencies to monitor poultry movement. The RTAC-PM system incorporates leading edge technology and is customized around customers' requirements with the flexibility to adapt to various types of OEM products.

Smart-tek has an established relationship with its sole licensee, SES Investment (China) Limited, which will serve as the liaison with the central government and facilitate implementation of the system upon final approval by the appropriate authorities.

"The potential for application of the RTAC-PM system is tremendous in China," said Law. "We are now ready to customize our solution to clients' needs."

"Frankly, we were overwhelmed with the reception of the system," said Law. "We've always been confident we had a 'better mouse trap,' but the high praise we received in China was third party affirmation that the RFID is a vital tool in combating what may be one of the greatest threats currently facing mankind."

The Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology has created a team charged with monitoring the flu and is seeking solutions to track poultry and livestock, Gee said. The ministry has the authority to issue a national mandate for the use of RFID at poultry farms, said Goodwin Wang, managing director of SES Investments Ltd. in China.

Gee hopes to leverage Smart-tek's expertise in security, surveillance, and monitoring to help the country contain the virus. The company can tag and count bird, track species, document ownership and log inspection dates, using RFID protocols. And the system can be tailored with end-user defined rules or for specific government requirements.

Chinese Government Officials Request Cost Estimates of Smart-tek Solutions, Inc.'s RTAC-PM Bird Flu Containment System
>CORTE MADERA, Calif., March 22, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Smart-tek Solutions, Inc. (OTCBB:STTK) announced today that Chinese government officials present at the successful demonstration of the Company's RFID tracking and containment system have requested detailed cost estimates for the state-of-the-art technology.

"Our sole and exclusive licensee for China, SES Investment (China) Limited, was approached by several governmental officials following the demonstration of our RTAC-PM (RFID Tracking Alert Containment and Poultry Monitoring) system," said Perry Law, President of Smart-tek Communications, Inc. "Due to the rapid spread of the H5N1 Avian Influenza across the globe, the government is pressed to find a containment solution and implement an action plan to help combat this worldwide issue before the situation deteriorates even further."

In conjunction with SES, the Company will now further analyze the requirements of the Chinese government and as expeditiously as possible provide a specific budget for the hardware, software and implementation costs to install a complete RTAC-PM system.

"With an estimated 13 billion chickens in China alone, this project represents a tremendous opportunity to further grow and diversify the Company's revenue stream," said Law. "We believe that the successful demonstration will also open up opportunities in other parts of the world that have been affected by this devastating outbreak."

But scientists warn virus could mutate and spread easier

Wednesday, March 22, 2006; Posted: 3:33 p.m. EST (20:33 GMT)

Scientists say that most of the human cases of bird flu came from handling infected animals.

But the virus could change that behavior by genetic mutation, taking a step toward unleashing a worldwide outbreak of lethal flu.

Experts said the new finding does not indicate how likely such a pandemic is. The virus may also need other mutations to take off in the human population, they said. Still, the work suggests a particular sign to watch for in new virus samples to help gauge the danger to humans.

The work, reported in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature, comes from University of Wisconsin-Madison virologist Yoshihiro Kawaoka with colleagues in Japan. Similar results, from the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, Netherlands, will be published online Thursday by the journal Science.

More than 180 people are known to have been infected with the bird flu virus H5N1. Virtually all are believed to have caught it from infected poultry. But scientists have long warned that the virus, which is prone to mutation, could transform itself into a version that spreads easily from person to person. That germ could touch off a pandemic. (Watch flu fears throttle Hong Kong businesses -- 3:00)

Ordinary flu viruses spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes, blasting out tiny droplets carrying the germ to others. For that to happen, the virus has to be perched in the right places to be ejected by a cough or sneeze. The new work suggests H5N1, by contrast, infects humans too low in the respiratory tract for that to occur.

Both research teams used human tissue removed from various parts of the respiratory tract -- the region from the nose to the lung -- to study where virus infection occurs.

Scientists already knew that bird flu viruses use a specific kind of docking site to enter cells they infect, while human flu viruses use a different one. Kawaoka's group found the bird virus docking site appears mostly on lung cells, while being rare on cells found in higher areas like the nose and windpipe. Those higher areas were dominated instead by the human-type docking site.

Kawaoka said that for H5N1 to become a pandemic virus, it would have to mutate in a way that lets it attach to the same docking site human viruses use. Other mutations would be needed as well, he said in a statement.

Robert M. Krug of the University of Texas at Austin called Kawaoka's work an important observation, and said that if H5N1 begins to use the human virus docking site "we've got a lot to worry about." It's not clear whether that would be enough to produce a pandemic germ, he said.

James Paulson of the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, stressed that other viral factors may be important in human-to-human transmission. But he said that once the virus has a foothold in a person, regardless of where it is in the respiratory tract, it may mutate to gain the abilities it needs to start spreading among people.

Don't exactly know how to interpret this PR. Maybe a joint venture in STTK implementation of it's RFID tech?

RFID, LTD. president Nicholas Chavez ponders the viability of an RFID solution to stymie the proliferation of bird-flu in China. (Photo: Business Wire)
RFID, LTD (OTC:RFDL) today announced its intention to offer a solution to track H5N1 Avian Influenza, commonly known as "bird-flu" for the People's Republic of China.

Smart-Tek Solutions, Inc. (OTCBB:STTK) announced the branding of its H5N1 tracking solution RTAC-PM (short for 'RFID Tracking Alert Containment and Poultry Monitoring) solution on March 21, 2006; after first publicly disclosing entry into the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) market in early November 2005.

According to press releases, Smart-Tek Solutions, Inc. estimates China holds a total of 13 billion chickens that could be exposed to bird-flu.

"We are very impressed that Smart-Tek could develop, test and pilot an international RFID solution of this size and scope in a mere five months," said Nicholas Chavez, president of RFID, LTD. "This accomplishment is especially worthy of merit given that Smart-Tek defines its core business offering as: closed circuit TV, access control and alarm systems for the Greater Vancouver area."

Implementing RFID in China is not without its difficulties.

China has historically faced challenges implementing RFID due to radio signal conflict perpetrated by the country's heavy use of the 860-MHz to 960-MHz UHF (Ultra High Frequency) band for telecommunications services. While the Chinese government is constructively addressing the UHF issue, they have not given a timeframe for decision regarding the designation of permanent operating frequencies for RFID technologies.

"The integrative complexity of this bird-flu project is staggering. It would be logistically impossible for one company to manufacture the sheer amount of hardware required for this task, let alone provide implementation services for the hardware and infrastructure to track 13 billion birds," stated Chavez. "As a frame of reference, approximately 3 million household pets are currently tagged with Digital Angel biothermal RFID chips on an annual basis."

RFID, LTD. has committed to completing an associated feasibility study by April 20th 2006.

"If our feasibility study indicates that engaging Avian Influenza with RFID technology on such a wide scale is humanly possible, and likely to be profitable, we will make an attempt to win the business and leverage our extensive RFID industry partnerships to make the project a success," added Chavez.

OT: Let me suggest one other stock to you... EFSF JUST ANNOUNCED acure to birdflu in humans. The stock is a mirror image of what egei did a day ago. I know this is a STTK board, but bird-flu seems to be our expertise, so consider making a small play in EFSF, it really is going to rocket today.

The RTAC-PM system was designed for the livestock industry and is targeted specifically for the poultry industry with user defined alerts that may assist governmental agencies to monitor poultry movement. The RTAC-PM system incorporates leading edge technology and is customized around customers' requirements with the flexibility to adapt to various types of OEM products.

AND THIS TOO
``This strategy has been successful so far in China, and we believe that it can also be successful in the United States,'' said Law. ``This deadly disease is showing no bias toward any nation and it has the ability to bring disastrous consequences to the American Poultry Industry. The United States has the opportunity to be proactive and implement checks and balances before the bird flu spreads to its flocks and limit the potential damages and we believe that we can be a part of their solution.''

I'm a total newbie to this area of investing and to this board. I got into STTK pretty late compared to many of you. I bought at .74 on 3/28. It hasn't been super exciting and heart-attack inducing as some stocks discussed, but today it broke .90 and already I've enjoyed over a 19% gain. So thanks to will-tex for starting this thread.

Hoping it will continue on its slow, steady incline.
