So far so good I am currently now trying to track how these pennies play out. Just like dadog says its all about trends and patterns, right now I am looking at DBRM and tryin to graph what took place. I figure on top of my trading if I could hold a stock for a good couple weeks and gain many hundreds of % I will greatly add to my nest egg.

So how has the markets been for u so far Ktrain?

I think there have been some rumors about doing something like that , in order to compete with Forex and some other exchanges that are 24 hours a day . That would be great , at least 6 days a week just to give everyone a breather , a slight pause in the action , because i hate weekends now , any day that i can't buy or sell , or at least watch the action is depressing [Smile] .

Ktrain i read your picks during the day and see that some stocks you pick have very low volume is's hard to get out and if you want how are you finding this picks.

thanks

Sounds good Ktrain I have been averaging between 300-600 a day sometimes I just trade on and off through out the day though. Soon we will both be the top players in pennyland and we will be the ones making that 1 million plus a year:)

Also too keep an eye on ONEV if I am doing this right I believe this one will see .20+ soon it appears to have a similar trading pattern to two other ones that played in late '04 and if all goes well I am lookin for a run sometime in March. I will be tracking this one and possibly playing more of these penny stocks that trade alike if all goes well with this one. But as of now I am keeping an eye on her.

Striper most of my picks have over 100,000 in volume by the time i buy them, i may notice them at 60,00 in volume and once it moves im all over it, i never have had a problem getting out due to the volume. Maybe the price i want.....lol

Posted by striper on :

thanks Ktrain
I'm new to trading and i get scared to enter a stock with low volume i was told it could be hard to sell but if i set the price right it will sell is that true

Ok, now I'm bored. Does anyone know how many trading days there are in 1 year? January to December?
I think there are 9 Holidays and 104 weekend days.

I'm just to lazy to figure it out exactly.

How many trading days are there? Half days count since we can trade on those days.
Thanks.

I am bored, too so I purchase a book called Technical Trading Tactics by John L. Pearson. It is quite good but too in-depth for me right now. I am very blessed so far with playing the pennys being that I didn’t loose any yet. I made some money on the tail of the qbid run but sold it and bought cmkx and lost all the profits…lol. So I am back to square one.

I have prrm and qant right now and got in a .0001. I don’t day trade because I don’t have the $25,000 Ameritade needs before they allow you. I think I am better off since I am inexperienced. I am having a great time though. I really tried to listen to people like Ktrain and dadog. They seem to really know their stuff and are lucrative in their financial endeavors.

Trading is now my favorite hobby. Good luck to all.

You don't need $25,000 to day trade with ameritrade, it's just that you can't use unsettled funds to buy and sell before they settle.

So, like someone suggested, if you have $3000 then use $1000 for monday, $1000 for tuesday, and $1000 for wedensday, so by Thursday first $1000 (if you bought & sold same day) will settle and you can use it again.

Thanks GT. I feel a bit foolish not knowing that.

Posted by GT500 on :

No problem, I actually looked into those things this past week because I'll be opening account with ameritrade on Monday.

When it comes to day trading they're the same as everyone else, you just can't use unsettled funds to buy and sell before they settle.

Good luck and I hope CMKX won't happen to you again:)

GT500 & Newpaper-

An NASD & SEC rule that applies to anyone who buys and sells a particular security in the same trading day (day trades), and does this four or more times in any five consecutive business day period. Pattern day traders are subject to special rules. The main rule is that in order to engage in pattern day trading you must maintain an equity balance of at least $25,000.

Just for your info

Posted by GT500 on :

It gets more and more complicated depending on what and how many times you trade.

If you buy and sell XY stock on Monday with your first $1000, and then go and buy & sell ZY stock on Tuesday with your 2nd $1000 and so on..you'll be fine.

Now, if you want to buy and sell XY stock 5 times in 2-3 days that's different.

Posted by GT500 on :

The $25,000 rule is to prevent using unsettled funds to buy and sell.

Posted by Newpaper on :

Thanks Pagan and GT for the info.

GT500-

Unsettled funds have nothing to do with it actually. The 25,000 rule is explicitly to prevent daytrading with accounts below 25,000. You cannot make 4 roundtrip transactions within 5 consecutive days...whether the funds are settled or not if your account balance is below 25,000. If you do so...you'll be tagged as a pattern daytrader and have to bring your account up to the 25,000 minimum.

Posted by GT500 on :

When you say 4 roundtrips within 5 days, you mean trade same stock (XY) 4 times (4 time buy/4 time sell) within 5 days?

That is different.

I've been trading different stocks (at least 2-3 roundtrips every DAY, so 10-15 roundtrips a week) for ~ 4 months now and no problems at all. I'm in Canada but trade only US stocks.

Posted by Pagan on :

GT500-
Roundtrips are buying a stock and selling that stock the same day. If this is done 4 times in a 5 day period...that when the 25,000 rule comes into play.

And as far as avoiding the settled/unsettled funds issue....get a margin account....that will alleviate any settlement issues. JMHO...

Posted by GT500 on :

Interesting, I just called my broker (scotia mcleod) and they seem to agree with me, no problems at all unless I use unsettled funds.

Maybe this is one of the differences between US and canadian brokers.

Posted by Pagan on :

GT500-

Very possible. I just thought you'd have the same regs in Canada since you were trading US stocks. Very interesting....

Posted by GT500 on :

I'll look into this further..

Right now it looks as if SEC rules do not apply to my brokerage account because: a) it's a Canadian broker and b) because settlement currency is CDN Dollars.

Now, I don't see why settlement currency had anything to do with this because I am trading US shares.

Posted by GT500 on :

I just called Ameritrade and got the same answer, the $25,000 SEC rule does not apply to Canadian accounts.

The only thing is, and this is same for almost all brokers, that I cannot take funds out for 3 days after the trade, or until the settlement date.

Posted by Pagan on :

Well then thats very fortunate for you. I was surprised to hear the SEC rule did not apply to you. I learned something new today. Thanks.

The settlement rules as far as withdrawing funds are the same here as well. You cannot withdraw unsettled funds from your brokerage account. But as I said...for purely trading purposes...margin accounts eliminate the settlement date issues and allow you to keep your cash in play. Which is always a good thing.

Posted by jjfranklin on :

If one has a margin acount and is tagged as a day trader, does the $25000 rule still apply?

Posted by GT500 on :

I called 11 brokers today to learn more on this and it looks like If you're in the US yes it does apply to you, and if you're in Canada it doesn't.
