I'm wanting to start to trade options. On Ameritrades Options order page where you click to buy or sell it has it buy at open or sell at close and vice versa. Is that the only time you can buy/sell an option? I thought I knew how options worked but this confuses me. I would appreciate if anybody can give me the low-down on this.

You can buy and sell options at any time prior to their expiration date. The terms "buy to open" and "Sell to close" are simply stating you want to buy an option to open a position, or sell an option, closing a position. It doesn't relate to the open/close of the market.

Hahaha, I can't believe I couldn't come up with that thought. I guess I was 3 bologna sandwhiches short of a picnic on that one.
