You will not like what I have to write.

I do not participate in IPO offerings. Only
one, in all my years, have I wished to have
bought; Google.

Estimates are 40.0 to 45.0 opening. I suspect
prices will drop slightly, first day, maybe
recover a bit, then remain relatively flat.

Many IPO offerings simply fall in prices
from the git go, and continue falling.

Most IPO offerings are not a good sign. These
offerings are made to raise capital cash. This
is a hint a company needs cash and is having
a hard time raising cash.

******* Card, I dunno. I would ask what do
they have which is better than the other
million-zillion credit card companies? No
unique product here. Credit cards are not
popular but a must have in today's world.

Dustoff, my opinion is there is not enough
"stuff" there to cause this to be a wildly
profitable IPO as is Google.

Drop a grain of salt on your tongue because
I do not participate in IPO offerings and
truly know very little about this arena.

clean up after myself, makes me wear clothes....

Do not allow me to poo-poo your IPO offering.
Truly, I am not qualified to comment on this
deal. Bast ard Card is very solid, certainly.
Probably the oldest credit card company going.
I simply do not know enough about IPO offerings
and such to add any worthwhile comments.

Might be very profitable, might not! There is
safety in this company is well established,
solid and probably profitable. I would think
potential for loss is minimal.

Interesting reading on IPO:

MasterCard is expected to price at around 11 times annualized earnings, which is low, so there could be a jump in the IPO after-market. "It has a lot of 'hair on it,'" said Francis Gaskins, president of independent research firm IPO Desktop, in a note.

"Longer-term investors are buying into the structural growth of its markets, especially overseas," said Gaskins.

The company posted a $126.7 million profit for the quarter ending March 31, nearly 36 percent higher than the year-earlier period, according a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. MasterCard also said it had sales of $738.5 million during the quarter, up nearly 12 percent from a year ago.

LAWSUITS AND OTHER ISSUES

MasterCard and the banks that issue its cards are facing law suits accusing them of conspiring to set fees which merchants pay to banks at an artificially high level.

If MasterCard is found liable in any litigation, it could force the company to alter its pricing structure or business practices, both of which could hamper its profitability, the company warns in the prospectus.

The company also said it expects to post a significant second quarter and full-year loss because it's donating about 10 percent of the stock from the share sale and $40 million in cash to a charitable foundation in Canada.

The organization is being set up to support educational programs that prepare kids for life in the global economy and develop entrepreneurship in disadvantaged areas.

MasterCard customers could also be facing higher lending fees after ratings agency Standard & Poors said it plans to lower the company's debt rating following the IPO.

Then there is the issue of trailing its larger rival, San Francisco-based Visa, which remains a non-public association of member financial institutions.

"It's in a space when not being a leader certainly counts against you," said Tom Taulli, an independent analyst and author of "Investing in IPOs," of Newport Coast, California.

"Visa is the king of the hill in this area and it's hard for a company like MasterCard to become the dominant player...I would be surprised if it had a big jump on the first day."

This one reason the Gap will form between the IPO price and the after market.....

Just what we need to hold things together while we get in.....

Once the frenzy begins Ka-Boom! LOL Hey! A pump like a Pink!

I figger my $7500.00 bet is a reasonable risk..
Just might hold out for the upper end of my profit target of 1-2 days 12-16%

You can count on some wild action! All our trading tools [ Toys ] will be working the way they are supposed to, FAST!!!! Liquidity will snap your head back like a 426 Hemi!

I might add $10,000.00 from savings, but I have plenty of time to make that decision...

Playing it FAST! not a hold for me.
At 14% thats $2450.00 profit, thats more than enough for a days work for me.

Posted by Repoman75 on :

Dustoff, usually IPOs cannot be shorted for 30 days.

Posted by Dustoff101 on :

Looks like $39.00 on the open.

Posted by Dustoff101 on :

Thats what I thought, but didn't they break the rule on BIDU?

Posted by Repoman75 on :

Here's the rule.. you can technically, but most brokerages label the stock NS - nonshortable.

To be able to short a stock, you usually need to borrow it from an institution such as your brokerage firm. For them to lend it to you, they need an inventory of this stock. Here's where the difficulty can arise with IPOs and short selling: an IPO usually has a small amount of shares upon initial trading, which limits the amount of shares that can be borrowed for shorting purposes. On the day of the IPO, two main parties hold inventory of the stock: the underwriters and institutional and retail investors. As determined by the Securities and Exchange Commission, which is in charge of IPO regulation in the U.S., the underwriters of the IPO are not allowed to lend out shares for short sale for 30 days. On the other hand, institutional and retail investors can lend out their shares to investors who want to short them.

However, only a limited amount of shares would probably be available on the market as the company would've just started trading publicly and the shares may not have been completely transferred. Furthermore, there might be a lack of willingness among investors to lend their shares out to be short sold.

You pumpin' this thing again D, geez. [Big Grin]

Posted by Stockstar69 on :

I don't know about shorting this one. It's a huge company and not a Telecom POS like Vonage.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it go up $10.00 OR go down $10.00.

Since this IPO has been so highly anticipated and I don't think the market overall will be falling much more my bet is UP UP UP.

Another Google anyone?

They are deliberatly coming in at $39.00 Knowing full well it's undervalued..Bankers make a Killing! We get the scraps..I am really getting sick and tired of the corruption right in our face on Wall Street!

This is a deliberate stall to drive up the price for insiders! Enough of this sh!t already.

Posted by thebluedog on :

I'm in at $43. What a nice close! I think this will go much higher. I see no reason for this to go down anytime soon. I read a very positive article from Morningstar saying that $80 per share would be a reasonable valuation.

Question? Does Master Card recieve the service fee's from the Banks and not share in the interest money?

If they do share in interest money? But I do not think they do.....A World wide trend is begining that folks pay the full charge when they recieve their statement...So I quess MC is not affected by the trend, correct?

But what if the Banks demand a reduction in fee's if profits fall from less profits from interest...?

$80.00? Valuation will really have to pick up..

Posted by TheCreator on :

I don't know all the details of that...

What I do know is debit cards are becoming huge. Everyone uses them now instead of checks, for the most part. Mastercard gets transaction fees on these also.

It just so happens that my debit card, which I use multiple times a day is a Mastercard. I think their revenue will be heading up myself. People are getting away from checks/cash and moving to cards.

80.00, I think is reasonable in about 6 months or so. This is the largest IPO to come out in a while.

I watched Bulls and Bears with Brenda Buttner (on Fox tv) and all 6 of her panelists agreed that MA is massively undervalued right now and should be up around the $80 range before the end of the summer.

I usually only trade half my money and keep the other half in the money market, it allows me to beat the settled funds rule without needing a margin account. Now I am thinkng of throwing my "extra" half into this for a few months.

Just keep a cool head here....I still don't like the action by the Bankers at outset..Sumpin ain't quite right with the delay and the decrease in the IPO price...

Think I am just a grumpy ole Bear?
Well maybe not...

Check out the scandal breaking out on the Vonage IPO...

Posted by Doniboy on :

I think that the Vonage problem affected the opening price for MA as well. MA didn't want to be considered another failed IPO so they decreased the starting price, saw a nice 18% gain and gave the investors the good feeling of a nice IPO that went green on day one.

Posted by Doniboy on :

Good day today...

Posted by Doniboy on :

Not for nothing, but Cramer, during the lightning round, just called for a "Buy, Buy, Buy" on Mastercard. He said its Cheap right now!!

Posted by Peaser01 on :

Giddy-up. Might we see $46 today?

Once this market correction IMO is over, MA could benefit greatly.

Posted by Doniboy on :

I agree Peaser, I just wish that I had more to put in this one. The keep saying that Mastercard is second to VISA in the market, which they are, but you know what? Visa is private, so Master card is the LARGEST PUBLIC CREDIT CARD COMPANY. This should be much hire I expect. They just cannot lose any big lawsuits and we'll be great here.

Posted by Peaser01 on :

I agree, the thing is that the lawsuits have been figured into the share price apparently from what they've said the past few weeks on CNBC. We'll see what happens. I'm in long-term regardless.

Cramer's pump gives us a 50/50 chance anyhow as his accuracy isn't the greatest IMO.

What do you guys think the overall economy condition is going to do to this stock?

Seems like we're headed for a bad situation. Adjustable rate mortgages are going to be putting a lot of people in way over their head when they need to refinance. Foreclosures already rising steadily. Throw in extremely high energy prices and you've got a lot of people maxing credit lines without the ability to pay them off.

Agree, great company, good long term...but wonder about the next 6 months or so.

I think that people will use credit no matter what. Besides, I do don't think that Mastercard gets stuck with the Bill if you do not pay, I think the merchant does. Correct me if you think I am wrong but Mastercard makes all its money on transaction fees, and does not pay the merchant until you pay your bill. If that is true than they have very little risk.

Posted by Baxt06 on :

No, mastercard pays the merchant less transaction fees. They definitely make a lot of money on transaction fees, but if people don't pay off their debt, Mastercard eats it.

My thoughts exactly, the Banks that hold the accounts are the ones collecting the debts as they are the ones offering the credit, not MC. MC is simply the vehicle I believe.

The banks right-off bad debts annually.

Posted by Baxt06 on :

That's a good point. It's usually a bank that is making payments and collections.

Posted by Peaser01 on :

Credit Crad companies make cash on merchants when you make a credit card purchase I believe, also banks pay them in order to issue cards to their members.

Behind each credit card is a major creditor(bank).

Say you use your card to buy $2 in gas, well, most gas stations don't like this because they are actually losing money due to the cost they pay for taking payment by way of credit cards v. the amount they make on the gas sale.

Some gas stations, for example, won't accept payment by credit card unless you purchase a certain amount of gas.

Posted by Doniboy on :

Thats true Peaser. I think Mastercard is just the vehicle by which people pay and they take a fee. Not a bad idea, no risk.

Posted by Baxt06 on :

Well, there's never NO risk...

Posted by Doniboy on :

Thats true Baxt, definitely true. Especially if they lose the upcoming lawsuits against them, however, in the meantime we just hit a new HOD [Smile]

Posted by Peaser01 on :

If this market starts showing a definite upwards turn again, we should be off to the races IMO.

Posted by Peaser01 on :

Might just see 48+ today. [Big Grin]

Posted by Doniboy on :

New HOD. Gotta love it.

Posted by Peaser01 on :

Wow, 49 maybe by close? hmm.

Posted by Doniboy on :

A lot of people have to be watching this one now. It got Cramers "Buy, Buy, Buy" rating. It had a strong IPO day, only a small red day thereafter, and its the largest public credit card company in teh world.

Posted by Doniboy on :

little dip there...

Check this news out.

Cramer says about MasterCard:

"I would be willing to pay $90, if it continues growing," he said.

Cramer just mentioned he liked MA on Stop Trading on CNBC.

This will just take patience and we will all benefit.

Posted by Peaser01 on :

Futures looking good so far.

Another green day for us IMO. Might we see 49 today?

Posted by Peaser01 on :

Sounds like our chances of seeing the FED pause on raising rates in June is good due to the employment numbers out today.

Gettin' ready for a big day across the market today.

A push through 50 today is highly probable IMO.

Posted by Doniboy on :

Its gapping way up!!

Posted by Doniboy on :

Now its red. That was odd.

Posted by Peaser01 on :

Nice little red days are nothing to the nice gains we've been seeing on the green days.

Holding for $80+ here.

Posted by Doniboy on :

Hey, I'll take 2% gains every day. This still looks great.

We might just break that pesky 49 today.

ASK IS AT $50.20. MasterCard RULES!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Doniboy on :

Wow...what a dip. Every time this stock starts strong it dips stronger. Thats ok though, next few days should be up 1-5% per day and then this baby is an $80 stock.

Posted by Doniboy on :

What is up with MasterCard the past two days. It rocketed up yesterday and then dumped, now its red again.

Posted by Peaser01 on :

That a big board stock for ya.

Posted by Doniboy on :

Well the news wasn't great yesterday so I figure that accounts for it. But all the analysts that I have been listening to all say that the lawsuits won't amount to anything. So I am still looking for this to hit $80 or $90.

Posted by Doniboy on :

Why is MAsterCard dumping right now???

Posted by Baxt06 on :

markets are dumping. big sell-offs in foreign markets.

Posted by Peaser01 on :

Might be a good pick up here around 46 before a turn around.

Posted by Dustoff101 on :

Time to go on vacation? Maybe let this market fully capitulate, then come back in on the otherside.

Liquidity drying up...Could become difficult to find buyers at a decent price.

Posted by Baxt06 on :

I agree. I don't see a overall market rebound coming anytime soon.

Posted by Doniboy on :

You guys think that this is response from that BS news yesterday about court cases? I do not think that anything will come of it, but maybe investors are getting scared.

Posted by Baxt06 on :

Think investors are scared in general. I think MA's drop has more to do with the market condition than anything company specific.

Posted by Doniboy on :

Made a nice bounce there. Back at $47.00, not bad.

Posted by Doniboy on :

What a finish!!!! Went green....
Go MasterCard!!!!

My thoughts as well. It all depends on what comes out of Bernanke's mouth in the next FED meeting IMO. I'm looking for a pause in rates going higher; however, many others think that a raise is coming and have pulled their cash out of the market.

We recovered strong yesterday, just as the markets evened out.

This stock has been having a very predictable morning for the past few trading days. Gap up about a buck or two and then go red. Nice flipping stock really. I haven't done it myself, but I may start.

Posted by Doniboy on :

Now the stock is on a downtrend. Is it because Chris Thom retired? Because that's the only news I see. Unless its just general market problems.

Posted by Doniboy on :

This is not doing too well today. Hopefully a bounce back is upcoming.

Posted by Dustoff101 on :

Doniboy, hard to get a handle on any stock at the present time...This has got to be one of the worst markets I have ever seen.

Interest rates are more key than thought regarding this stock...Lack of liquidity makes for a difficult sell at the price a person wants.

Maybe it's because someone didn't pay their bill this month? heheh

...but I will sit on the side line for a little
while to see what happens with this one just out
of curiousity though. Dunno if I'd buy into it.

Posted by Doniboy on :

I tried my first pre-market sale. Hoping to flip this thing, but it didn't go through. Now it's gapping down....figures.

Down again

why is every tom n dick talking about litigations of MA.. merck has far tooo many litigations and pays millions every year on litigations, and yet its sock doesnt fall. when i bought MA at 42.6 (i got out at 50 though and waiting to get back in after market consolidates).. i knew MA was like google. google was the only search engine used by billions around the world, MA is something similar, and everything i buy, it gets 2% everytime i use my CC. i am sure after the whole shakeup, this truth shall be realised by everyone.. end of july price=$60

Posted by Doniboy on :

I agree rushkin, but I think that the end of the summer see's $80...

Mastercard is looking pretty crappy to me... not really approaching any highs. IMO this stock sucks.

OK, all of you that are in this stock know that we have had a tough few weeks. I personally am holding strong in the belief that this will be a $80-$90 stock in a few months. Well here is what Cramer said last night:

MasterCard, on the other hand had a great opening, with a price that started at $39 and closed at $46. After, the stock flat-lined, but his was due to bad market conditions, Cramer said.

"I would stay away from Vonage, but I think you should buy MasterCard," he said, giving the credit card company two thumbs up.

Although there are merchants suing MasterCard and trying to undue its IPO, Cramer believes this is not a serious threat and pointed out that the company is still doing well. It is a strong business that is coming out with new products and variations on old products.

MasterCard also made a smart move by sponsoring the World Cup. This move will increase European penetration, as soccer is the sport of choice for every country but the U.S. and India. He said it is not too late to get into MasterCard and recommended buying the company's stock.

Sounds good to me...Good Luck to all.

Don

MasterCard's exposuure to legal fights over interchange fees and other issues may be $1.6 billion, compared to published estmates of $6 billion. "Our lower estimate stems from our view that the major banks, as co-defendants, will push to settle, rather than risk a trial; that the major economic impact of settlement will be a modest reduction in interchange fees, which MasterCard does not retain, rather than massive cash penalties," Morgan Stanley said in a note to clients.

up 3% is nice on a big board stock. Plus it was up about 2% yesterday. I like Mastercard's chances of going to the $60-$90 range in the next couple of months. This is the stock that I keep throwing my sub-penny profits into (when I actually have profits that is)...

Posted by Doniboy on :

up 2.5% so far. Very nice. Moving steadily toward $56...

Just give it a little time.

Nice entry here IMO under $44.00.

I came out at $46.50.
