Dear EricDavid.com subscribers

Here we are Aug 1st, the start of what is called "the dog days of
summer" a month when the stock market is at its slowest and dullest.... So
then why did our Americhip (OTCBB:ACHI) trade up 47% on huge volume of 5.3
million shares traded today? I can only hedge as everyone else is on the
financial message boards. We know that NJ based Cornell Capital is no longer
needed to help finance. Yes that was in fact announced several weeks ago.

Could there be a short squeeze? Well the OTCBB is not required to report
short interest...So more hedging
One thing for certain, and we all know that massive up volume speaks for
itself. What is going on with our little baby Americhip? No clue here but
you must admit its getting very exciting.
I contacted the Companies IR firm last week with regards to conducting or
3rd interview and was told they are not ready at this time but that they
will contact us after August.

Well my dear readers, if news or press should break we will forward to you
right after the wire services forwards to us.
I will forward you my general market re-cap in two weeks. But I do see big
money flowing into certain micro-caps as has been the case for the past few
weeks.

Regards to all,

AmeriChip International Inc. Successfully Completes Testing of LACC Process at Major Transmission Manufacturer
8/3/2005 9:00:39 AM

PLYMOUTH, Mich., Aug 3, 2005 (PRIMEZONE via COMTEX) -- The Board of Directors of AmeriChip International Inc. (ACHI) is pleased to announce that it has reached a major milestone after the completion of five (5) months of extensive testing with a major Fortune 500 automotive parts manufacturer.

AmeriChip International has been working diligently with process engineering in the transmission division and is preparing quotations for the machining of the first of several parts. These trials have been conducted in the manufacturing plants and the laboratory of strategic partners, GSI Lumonics and Seco-Carboloy with a view to producing less expensive parts. As a result of the LACC process, AmeriChip has successfully substantiated that it can significantly lower the manufacturing cost per piece.

Marc Walther, CEO of AmeriChip stated, "I am very confident that we are at the beginning of a rapid growth phase for the AmeriChip, and I am also confident that we will see an increasing revenue stream leading to profitability. The customer has formed an implementation group to adapt the LACC process as part of a core technology embracing AmeriChip's LACC process for long chip producing materials. Over the next several months, AmeriChip will continue to provide time studies and quotations on the machining of many different component parts for manufacturing in AmeriChip's licensed plants. The customer has identified significant cost savings in thru put, cost reduction by the elimination of coolant as it relates to dry machining, scrap reclamation and overall handling, capital equipment investment per part number, reduced tool cost and the amount of labor required to produce machined parts."

Headquartered in Plymouth, MI, AmeriChip International Inc., a process technology company, holds a patented technology known as Laser Assisted Chip Control, the implementation of which results in efficient chip control management in industrial metal machining applications. This technology provides substantial savings in machining costs of certain automobile parts providing much more competitive pricing and more aggressive sales approaches within the industry.

The innovative AmeriChip business model, enhanced by its AmeriChip Tool and Abrasives subsidiary, is designed to establish an extensive resource for cost saving services and products that all cost conscious industrial steel and aluminum machining companies require. AmeriChip International, Inc. Develops Flexible Manufacturing Systems Using Its LACC Process for the Oil Pipe Industry
8/16/2005 9:33:49 AM

PLYMOUTH, Mich., Aug 16, 2005 (PRIMEZONE via COMTEX) -- The Board of Directors of AmeriChip International, Inc. (ACHI) announces that after 10 months of research and testing, it has successfully applied its Laser Assisted Chip Control (LACC) technology for implementation within the oil pipe threading industry. The Company has created AmeriChip Pipe Technologies, a Texas-based corporation, to assist the Company in entering this billion dollar industry, as previously announced in February 2005. In addition to our recent inroads in the automotive parts industry, the Board is looking forward to 2006 projected sales revenue to exceed $10 million in profitable business. Management believes that the combination of the two industry markets indicates that this estimate is conservative.

Over the past 10 months, the Company has developed and designed the LACC process for the dry machining of oil threads. This new process will allow the Company to manufacture complete certified oil pipe in a flexible automated production line. This technology has significantly reduced the time and cost of producing quality threads on oil pipe of all sizes. The LACC process has provided AmeriChip Pipe Technologies a platform for the creation of flexible automated production lines that will thread and inspect oil pipe with significantly faster production under one roof.

Ed Rutkowski, vice president, AmeriChip International Inc., the original LACC patent holder, stated, "This will not only lower the cost to produce and inspect oil pipe, but will significantly reduce thread leaking due to long stringy chips, coolant pitting, and uncontrolled ovality. This system will also reduce the cost of handling due to the complete flexible automation system under one roof instead of trucking pipe to each phase of manufacturing."

Each oil pipe will be laser-serialized and downloaded to AmeriChip Pipe Technology's website for customer retrieval of inspection information for use in the field.

The creation of razor sharp chips in the machining of oil pipe up to 45 feet in length with a diameter up to 24 inches is an everyday hazard in safety, thru put, and environmental disposal. Coolant has also been found to cause pitting on the threads of the oil pipe which, if not corrected, can cause an embolism when the oil pipe is under pressure. These leaks are dangerous, costly, and difficult to resolve in the field.

"We believe that this process developed by Mr. Rutkowski, combined with other new technologies developed with AmeriChip, will revolutionize the oil pipe threading industry," stated Marc Walther, president of AmeriChip International.

Headquartered in Plymouth, Mich., AmeriChip International, Inc. holds a patented technology known as Laser Assisted Chip Control, the implementation of which results in efficient chip control management in industrial metal machining applications. This technology provides substantial savings in machining costs of certain automobile parts providing much more competitive pricing and more aggressive sales approaches within the industry.

PLEASE NOTE: American machining technology has remained rather stagnant for many, many years, until NOW....

They have added automation (CNC = computer numerical control, PLCs, high performance Servos, etc.) to lots of the formerly manual processes, but the cutting tool running on the workpiece and how it works hasn't changed for eons...

We now have a paradigm shift.

A totally new USA TECHNOLOGY that will ultimately have the impact of the original Industrial Revolution, the invention of the steam engine, and the invention of usable and dependable electricity. This will stop the flood of exported machine work (..Ross Perot's 'sucking sound'..) moving to foreign lands - and actually reverse the trend bringing it back..!!! Let me repeat that. Actually reverse the dam* trend and bring the machining work back to the USA..!!!

If you had the least small grip on the processes and costs of machining operations, this would equate to having Transporters at all the airports - where'd you'd walk in to one, and walk out a microsecond later in Fiji...!!!

This is not a joke. The new "..LACC.." process employed by AmeriChip International (ACHI) does something absolutely amazing. It allows the cutting of parts without coolants or lubricants that actually can damage the microstructure of the worked parts. The process also results in the "..heat of cutting.." being quickly carried away by the smaller "..chips.." produced as they fly off.

Getting rid of the cutting heat allows the processing of a single part to be sped-up by 10-to-20 times over standard lubricated cutting. So, while the Taiwanese might be able to make 1.3 more parts-per-$ than American machinists can do now; AmeriChip's process can make 10+ parts more than the Taiwanese for the same $ in the same time.

This process also results in the parts being less heat-hardened by the cutting, and for the very expensive cutting tools to last much, much longer. Having to change out less cutting tools per shift, per day, or per week saves huge amounts of money for ACHI, or other machining firms.

If you "..Oooo & Ahhhh.." over things like "..Beam me up, Scotty..", "..Warp Drives..", "..Dr. Who's Tardis..", "..flying saucers..", etc. - welcome to the new world of advanced technology machining...!!! Same impact - different genre'.....

ACHI is about to do the whole plant expansion, financial filings, OTCBB application, New business announcements, rock-the-freakin'-clock thing, so IMHfreakin'O you either get in Monday at the Open - or you order your B.B. King sheet music for the "..2005 Woulda-Shoulda-Coulda Blues.."!!!

The "..No Whining.." lamp will be lit as of 1000 hours on Monday.

DYODD. Do whatcha gotta do. Do yur t-h-a-n-g. Do yur sweetie. Whatever..... But DON'T under any circumstances let Monday morning come without having your homework finished (..dog or no dog..) and having made your decision.

You been told, ...Poopsy..!!!

HERE'S THE REAL CLINCHER, TROOPS: .... AmeriChip International http://www.americhiplacc.com/ is not going to "..blow the whole deal..", like most of our American technology developers do, by selling their systems to competitors here or abroad.

AmeriChip is going to expand and JV (..with Non-Disclosure Contraccts..) to meet the demand here in the good ol' US-of-A, then they may eventually consider taking the technology abroad under their control.

One smart move, followed by another smart move, followed by more smart moves - at a company run by an Engineer; ..not some money-shuffling, greed-stricken, Havard Sleaziness School graduate or shifty Beancounter willing to 'sell out quick' for a new yacht and Country Club membership...

Onward & Upward: at $0.04/share it's a damn good gamble on "..BUILDING AMERICA.." in my book.

ACHI --- It would be wise to find out what it's all about:

AmeriChip International Inc.'s wholly owned subsidiary AmeriChip Ventures, Inc. (AVI) is the owner of the rights and interests in all U.S. patents forming the "Laser Assisted Chip Control" technologies. The inventor, Edward Rutkowski, who is also a board member and active in the operation of the Company, was granted patents on April 6, 1993 and January 25, 1995 entitled "Method for controlling length of metal chips." AmeriChip, Inc. was formed to hold the patents and granted AVI the exclusive license to make, use and sell products covered by the foregoing patents.

The patented process seeks to solve the creation and subsequent handling of long stringy metal "chips" which have been a long-standing problem in the machining industry. The chip control problem adds additional cost when highly automated gauging, tooling and material handling (robots) is introduced.

"Chips" are the stringy metal shavings that are created when using a cutting tool to remove metal. The long winding shards or ribbons of razor sharp steel wrap around cutting tools, the machine, the gauging and inhibits the robotics from removing the part. Millions of dollars have been spent annually, for years, on chip groove technology and coolants with no verifiable and consistent success in resolving these inherent problems. The use of coolants on machined parts has resulted in expensive, messy and environmentally unfriendly workplaces, that can take some plants as much as one shift per week to properly evacuate the system.

The conventional answer to the problem has been to slow the process down so that the chips can be controlled. In fact, even slowing the process down does not resolve the problem. Often the automatic gauging and robotics must be completely turned off because the chips are tangled around the part. AmeriChip has solved the problem. Its patented Laser Assisted Chip Control process provides the solution as well as substantial benefits and cost savings as follows:

* Reduction in down time that is mandatory when machining in the traditional manner to remove chips that clog parts, tools and the machine base.
* Elimination of coolant requirements and the costs associated with handling and disposing of the coolant.
* Enhances safety in the workplace.
* Improves productivity with greater use of automated machinery and robotics.
* Utilizing the LACC process provides opportunity to reduce cost per unit
* Through consistent chip control, tool life more predictable.
* Environmentally friendly. Coolant usage to chip control length is not required when using LACC process.

Parts delivered by various potential customers, including GM Powertrain, are currently on site at the AmeriChip laboratory located within its licensed facility at KSI Machine and Engineering and are being evaluated.

Last month the Associated Press published an article where it reported that "GM rolls out new cost-cutting plan for suppliers -- Overall targets replaced by emphasis on individual parts." "At a time when the automotive industry is asking its suppliers, including those to whom AmeriChip has made recent presentations, to help cut costs to remain competitive globally, AmeriChip is poised to take the lead in this initiative," stated Ed Rutkowksi, Vice President Operations - Research & Development.

The Company also announced that it has a new corporate website at www.americhiplacc.com.

Headquartered in Plymouth, MI, AmeriChip International Inc. holds a patented technology known as Laser Assisted Chip Control, the implementation of which results in efficient chip control management in industrial metal machining applications. This technology provides substantial savings in machining costs of certain automobile parts providing much more competitive pricing and more aggressive sales approaches within the industry.

The innovative AmeriChip business model, enhanced by its AmeriChip Tool and Abrasives subsidiary, is designed to establish an extensive resource for cost-saving services and products that all cost-conscious industrial steel and aluminum machining companies require. AmeriChip is committed to keeping jobs in America for Americans.

IMHO, there is very limited time left to collect substantial amounts of cheap ACHI shares. http://www.americhiplacc.com/

We are talking a totally new paradigm in American machining here, keeping American jobs in America, and the fact that GM is jumping all over it. The test runs are complete, quality is outstanding, and orders are stacking up. Either you're informed and loaded, or you're going to be on the outside looking in - one more time.....

DYODD, but don't dawdle....... ..If you play this as a MOMO or Pop, you will have really screwed up. It's going to be a wealth-maker.

AmeriChip International Inc. Prepares for Production
12/15/2005 11:42:19 AM

PLYMOUTH, MI, Dec 15, 2005 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- The Board of Directors of AmeriChip International Inc. (ACHI) announced that the Company has placed an order for a Mazak 350M machining center in preparation for conducting limited production runs. This equipment will assist the Company in the final verification process of a customer's part and serve as interim manufacturing equipment to handle limited production runs until such time as a full complement of production equipment is on the floor at KSI Machine. Further, by expanding our test facility with the addition of this equipment, we will be able to conduct comparative production studies that will illustrate the value and cost savings of our Laser Assisted Chip Control technology (LACC) to a customer with respect to a specific part.

The Company has completed preparation of its facility to accept orders for production runs in the first quarter of 2006 as a result of successful trials on specified automobile parts. The Company has been informed that substantial orders are in process. During the initial machining process conducted for both OEM's and Tier One suppliers, AmeriChip proved that it successfully and unequivocally machines steel parts using a "dry" process which substantially reduces the cost of machining automobile parts. The Company's patented LACC technology enables automakers and their suppliers to dry machine parts totally eliminating the need for expensive and problematic coolant on specific parts where it is proven that dry machining can be used. The industry refers to this technology as Green Machining as it is both environmentally friendly within and without the workplace.

"Over the past 21/2 years," stated Marc Walther, President, "our Company has strived to achieve recognition of our technology and its acceptance within the automotive industry. We will see revenue generation in the first quarter of 2006 based on the significant progress we have made in the last three months with both OEM's and major Tier One suppliers."

Headquartered in Plymouth, MI, U.S.A., AmeriChip International Inc. holds a patented technology known as Laser Assisted Chip Control, the implementation of which results in efficient chip control management in industrial metal machining applications. This technology provides substantial savings in machining costs of certain automobile parts providing much more competitive pricing and more aggressive sales approaches within the industry.

There is some real meaty stuff in the following statement, especially if you know anything at all about machining, facilities engineering, purchasing, and order fulfillment...:

The Company has completed preparation of its facility to accept orders for production runs in the first quarter of 2006 as a result of successful trials on specified automobile parts. The Company has been informed that substantial orders are in process. During the initial machining process conducted for both OEM's and Tier One suppliers, AmeriChip proved that it successfully and unequivocally machines steel parts using a "dry" process which substantially reduces the cost of machining automobile parts.

This gutsy new machine requires a 60amp branch circuit at 480vac/3phase or a 120amp branch circuit at 208vac/3phase..:
Mazak: http://www.mazakusa.com/
QTN-350: http://www.mazakusa.com/productpage.asp?lngEquipID=16
Machine Cost (..with the 60" bed..) is $140,000, weight = 17K pounds (..obviously not a toy..).
Facilities cost would be about $5000 for the electrical service point and another $5000 for conduit, wire, and labor.

"Getting rid of the cutting heat allows the processing of a single part to be sped-up by 10-to-20 times over standard lubricated cutting. So, while the Taiwanese might be able to make 1.3 more parts-per-$ than American machinists can do now; AmeriChip's process can make 10+ parts more than the Taiwanese for the same $ in the same time."

I dont see how this can work. Cutting faster means u can push more products off the line, however materials and labor cost more here so it seems impossible to be a rate of 10+. Unless of course u are magically getting cheapoer materials just because you are cutting quicker... Get my idea?

Mikey D, you obviously don't have a flaming clue what AmeriChip International is all about. We have to harass them constantly just to get one PR a month. And, nobody in putting out any "..to da moon.." crap about the company. Concurrenly In fact, there is both a known Short and Naked Short Position associated with Cornell Capital (..aka: Cornball Crapital..) and NITE, and both those slimers are paying for the pro-Bashers to trash ACHI over on RavingBullschmidt.

The LACC technology will sell itself, we're simply waiting for Detroit to get out of "..whine-&-(w)itch mode.." and get moving again. Ford is leaning down, Delphi has won concessions from the Unions, and GM is selling it's interest in GMAC; so that's clearly starting to happen.

Get a grip before you bluster, ...unless you want everyone to think you're stupid.

Re: "..I dont see how this can work. Cutting faster means u can push more products off the line, however materials and labor cost more here so it seems impossible to be a rate of 10+. Unless of course u are magically getting cheapoer materials just because you are cutting quicker.."

If a company can produce 10X more parts per hour than the competition, they are in 'FAT CITY' production and profit-wise..!!! The labor cost stays exactly the same - since machinists spend most of their time "..watching and waiting.." for cutting operations to finish. LACC actually improves machinist utilization by increasing their productivity. The machinist is not the biggest cost in the parts anyway.

The cost for the raw materials stays the same per piece (..unless they get a bigger discount for ordering 10X more material due to their efficiency..). The cost of the raw materials (..bar stock, shaft stock, or billets..) is not markedly different here or overseas (..excepting China when supplied internally..). You also eliminate the transportation cost from overseas back to the USA.

It's also much less costly to send a truck directly from ACHI in Detroit to GM, Ford, Chrysler, or to the Michigan-Indiana-Ohio-Illinois Tier-1 suppliers without having to have the parts come off a ship in cases, pallets, or transportainers, through customs, and then trucked again by a licensed-bonded-insured common carrier.

ACHI could even custom pack the parts in special "..totes.." that the OEMs use for internal transportation and distribution to their assembly lines "..for a few dollars more.."; eliminating that task at the Tier-1 or OEM's location.

You need to go and read about all this on th company website.

Wow..: ACHI 0.0639 +0.019 (+42.32%) 0.062 0.064 9,760,682 -- Here's a nice synopsis..:

AmeriChip International Inc., has developed a patented technology, (LACC – Laser Assisted Chip Control) designed to create faster thru-put by eliminating long stringy and often dangerous ribbon-like steel chips that tangle around cutting tools and machined parts. The LACC process creates a platform of other cost savings as a result of the increased chip control such as elimination of coolant, more basic cutting tools and less down time due to chip evacuation and unpredictable tool life. Automation then becomes an option due to that complete predictability. Environmental safety and air quality are significantly enhanced as long stringy chips are not produced and coolant is not used.

The LACC process addresses the major obstacles that the American manufacturers are plagued with, and that is high employee cost and extensive capital expenditures on machines and equipment. Due to the increased thru put capability of the LACC process, it takes less people and lower number of machines to create a finished part compared to conventional machining processes as we know it. Americhip “Redefines Machining”.

AmeriChip’s objective is to establish its patented technology for metal machining as the “preferred” process of choice among the world’s leading automakers (The “Big 3”) and Tier-One parts suppliers. AmeriChip has established a wholly owned subsidiary, AmeriChip Tool and Abrasives designed to create a one stop shopping resource center for all other traditional tools and abrasives used in machining.

AmeriChip is committed to Keeping jobs in America for Americans.

The Company became public in 2003 and has been in a developmental stage over the past 2 years. In that time the Company has conducted trials on automobile parts for Tier One Suppliers to the automotive industry. The Company is currently working to complete the acquisition of KSI Machine and Engineering, of Clinton Township, MI. (www.ksimachine.com )

The Company has a patented technology which dramatically reduces the creation of long stringy chips when machining steel parts and as a result reduces cost of machining and increases thru-put.

Please remember that ACHI is "..NOT.." a pinksheet issue. It's a fully-reporting OTCBB company that I don't recall ever having an "E" either. Nor is it another "..me too.." Dot.Com whizbang.

These people have a revolutionary new maching technology that like anything else in the Auto manufacturing game can go ballistic overnight due to the intense GM-Ford-Chrysler-Nipponese competition. Additionally, there are other huge indutries out there ( Farm tractors and Implements, Heavy Construction machinery, Mining machinery, Crawler and Mobile Cranes, Industrial and Marine (prime mover) diesel engines, Motorcycles and Off-road Sports vehicles, Outboard and Inboard boat motors, Small engines, etc., that all need the LACC technology to reduce cost and eliminate lubricants in their shops. This is not a "..one trick pony.." cell phone ring-tones niche play.

It may not do the humpity-bumpity-retrace thing that you're used to. So, a "..BUY & HOLD.." Reco is the order of the day. There are a number of major things about to happen, IMHO, that could leave a 'day-flipper' on the "..outside..", down the block, and around the corner - bloody well wishing he could get near the velvet rope and still be "..looking in.."!!! I hope you don't learn that lesson here the hard way..!!!

NITE and CornBall Crapital and their 30MM+/- NSS 'vapor shares' are about to be emasculated big time. That may happen with absolutely no notice, and much sooner than anyone might imagine.

Berkshire Hathaway Buys Metalworking Firm Stake - © 2006 The Washington Post Company
Associated Press - Saturday, May 6, 2006; Page D03

OMAHA, May 5 -- Rather than wait for Saturday's annual meeting, Warren E. Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. announced a multibillion-dollar acquisition Friday.

Berkshire said it will pay $5 billion for an 80 percent stake in privately held Iscar Metalworking Cos., which makes metal-cutting tools. The company's current owners, the Wertheimer family, will retain 20 percent ownership.

The deal appears to be the third largest in Berkshire's history, behind the $5.1 billion acquisition of utility PacifiCorp announced last year and the $16 billion stock purchase of reinsurance giant General Re in 1998.

Investors had been speculating that Buffett might announce an acquisition at Saturday's meeting because Berkshire has been flush with more than $40 billion in cash, and Buffett has said he was looking for the right opportunity.

Iscar's management team will remain in place, as is customary when Berkshire buys companies. Iscar has facilities worldwide, with the largest in Tefen, Israel.

"As a truly international business, IMC is a top performer in its industry," Buffett said in a statement. Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, is a major investor in The Washington Post Co. and sits on its board of directors.

Berkshire spokeswoman Debbie Bosanek said no one was available to discuss the acquisition because the company is preparing for the annual meeting, expected to draw a record 23,000 people.

The company reported a 70 percent jump in first-quarter earnings on strong performance from its investments and insurance businesses. Profit was $2.31 billion, compared with $1.36 billion in the comparable period last year, according to Berkshire's filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, released late Friday afternoon.

Berkshire owns a diverse mix of companies including furniture, insurance, jewelry and candy companies, restaurants, natural gas and corporate jet firms, and has major investments in such companies as Coca-Cola Co., Anheuser-Busch Cos. and Wells Fargo & Co.

Shares of Berkshire stock gained $710, or about 1 percent, Friday to close at $88,710 on the New York Stock Exchange. The company announced its latest acquisition after the market closed.

Great news for the world of industrial machining...!!! .. With potential good fallout for ACHI.

Berkshire investors excited by overseas push
By Alistair Barr, MarketWatch - Last Update: 2:45 PM ET May 7, 2006

OMAHA, Neb. (MarketWatch) -- After Berkshire Hathaway Inc.'s annual meeting three years ago, the company had a special gathering for the first time for international shareholders who got to chat briefly with Chairman Warren Buffett and take a quick photo. Roughly 100 people attended.

At Saturday's meeting Buffett made a point of announcing that about 550 overseas investors requested tickets this year, up from 380 in 2005.

"This year it was absolutely enormous," Peter Webb, a U.K.-based Berkshire shareholder who's attended all three international meetings, said. "Waiting in line, everyone was talking about their own country and at least three people said they planned to ask Mr. Buffett if they could write to him about acquisition opportunities."

Investors were asked to enter a meeting room in small groups to meet not only Buffett and his partner Charlie Munger, but also director Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft Corporation, Webb said. "Suddenly, people were in front of the two richest men in the world," Webb said. "It was a bit overwhelming for some."

While overwhelming, the growing importance of the international shareholder meeting illustrates Buffett's increasing focus on investment opportunities outside the U.S., Webb and other investors said on Sunday.

On Friday, Berkshire announced the acquisition of an 80% stake in Israeli metal cutting tool manufacturer Iscar Metalworking Cos. for $4 billion.

The following day during the main annual meeting, Buffett noted that Iscar was the first ever company that Berkshire bought that was based outside the U.S. and hinted that he would be making more acquisitions abroad. See full story.
"Buffet and Munger are expanding their hunting ground from the U.S. to the entire world," said Whitney Tilson, head of money management firm Tilson Capital Partners and a Berkshire shareholder. "They've taken a big step in that direction with the Iscar acquisition."

Part of this strategy is tied to Buffett's increasing concern about the U.S.'s growing trade imbalances and their potential to weaken the U.S. dollar. In 2002, he increased Berkshire's bets against the dollar and more recently he's invested more money in overseas assets to hedge against a decline in the greenback.

But more international acquisitions could also help Berkshire find better places to invest its cash pile of roughly $40 billion. The company has been under increasing pressure to put the money to work or use it to buy back shares or even pay a dividend -- things that Buffett has almost always shunned.
The international shareholder gathering at Berkshire's annual meeting is a great way for Buffett to showcase the company abroad as a benevolent acquirer, Tilson said.
"These shareholders are potential ambassadors who may go back to their countries and start singing the praises of Berkshire to people like the owners of Iscar," Tilson added.
International expansion may also help Buffett track down more family-owned businesses.

When buying family-run businesses like Iscar, Berkshire has an advantage over private-equity funds because it has a reputation for not meddling much with the firms it controls.
While strong capital markets in the U.S. mean there are fewer private, family-owned businesses available. But in other, less developed countries, there are many companies that have grown large without accessing public markets, Thomas Russo, a partner at Lancaster, Penn.-based investment firm Gardner Russo & Gardner, said.

"In the acquisition world, Warren has long cultivated his presence among family business owners who at some point may wish to transfer their corporate assets to a trustworthy home and receive money for that," Russo, a Berkshire investor since the mid-1980s, said. "Berkshire has clearly put itself forward as the best acquirer for families who care about what happens to their businesses after selling."

While Berkshire has gotten this message out well for years in the U.S., Russo said Buffett has begun using the international shareholder gatherings to spread the word abroad.
"The message goes home with these investors that Berkshire is a special kind of place," Russo added. "Buffett's broadening awareness among foreign, family-owned companies that Berkshire is the kind of respectful place that they'll want to transfer their business to." End of Story

In the end, Bock couldn't keep the one promise he made to his wife, Rosemary: that they wouldn't touch his pension.

But Bock had a compelling reason to leave his six-figure legal job with State Farm Insurance, refinance his house twice and burn through his savings and pension money: his father.

George E. Bock died in 1995 from an illness linked to his job at General Motors' Flint V-8 Engine Plant.

He and a co-worker, Robert Meyer, had discovered that the chemical soup they worked in every day might be responsible for a rash of illnesses, including serious lung disorders.

When no lawyers around Flint would take a massive case against the area's largest employer, the younger Bock decided to do it himself.

He sued General Motors and a supplier on behalf of his father and other workers who became ill from exposure to metalworking fluids.

"I knew it was going to be a big case, but I don't think I knew it was going to be a 10-year fight," he said. "One year turned into two. Two years turned into five, and five years turned into 10. And the pension fund was gone."

Ten years, 100,000 pages of documents and $800,000 in costs later, the workers won. The last claims were settled earlier this year.

Ultimately, GM escaped liability.

But Cincinnati Milacron, which supplied the fluids and monitored their use at the plant, settled claims by dozens of workers who were sickened by exposure to chemical compounds that hung in the air and permeated their clothing.

All along, the companies denied they knowingly subjected employees to hazardous levels of the chemicals. Neither is commenting on the case or the resolution.

Bock said the litigation was difficult and acrimonious.

"There were many, many dark times when the cash was gone, and I wondered how I and my family would support ourselves," Bock said.

"Then Bob Meyer would come in and buy me a new suit. These people became more than just clients. They would stop in and offer words of support.

A company man

In 1956, George Bock hitchhiked from Simcoe, Ontario, to Flint and landed a job at the engine plant.

"He was actually on his way to Buffalo," Dale Bock said. "A driver who picked him up said he'd heard they were hiring hundreds of people in Flint He got out and headed (to Flint)."

A small but robust man who played hockey well into his 40s, Bock fell ill in the fall of 1993, about the same time that 6,000 gallons of coolant spilled into a pit beneath his work area.

Bock had trouble breathing and was overcome by fatigue, but doctors didn't know why. He turned ashen gray and gained 50 to 60 pounds, a side effect of the steroids prescribed to ease his breathing problems.

Bock, his wife, Ruth, and Meyer, who suffered similar symptoms, traveled to universities throughout the area, looking for answers.

"George was tenacious," Meyer said. "He was like a pit bull. When he bit into something, he didn't let go. He got me fired up."

The quest led Bock and Meyer to a Canadian government agency in Windsor, Ontario, where they saw dozens of studies on the health effects of metalworking fluids.

They also found an expert at Michigan State University who performed tests and advised them not to go back to work at the plant, at least not without breathing protection.

Meyer said he offered to pay the $500 cost of a positive airflow respirator, but plant officials refused to allow it.

"The plant doctor said we can't let you came back to work wearing something like that because it would scare the rest of the employees," he said

In 1994, after being tipped off by a union representative at the plant, Bock and Meyer attended an industry seminar on metalworking fluids in Dearborn.

"We crashed the party," Meyer said. "They were looking at studies that had already been done (about the effects of metalworking fluids)."

George Bock died on April 25, 1995, from a heart attack allegedly brought on by hypersensitivity pneumonitis, a disorder that restricts breathing and causes scarring in the lungs. He was 60.

Dale Bock advised Meyer and other workers to find a local attorney.

"We couldn't find anybody else to take it," said Meyer, 61, of Genesee Township. "They'd look at it and say, 'You've got a heck of a good case, but it's too time-consuming and too much to take on."

Home again

Dale Bock, a 1975 graduate of Holly High School, earned degrees from Oakland University, the University of Nebraska Law School and the National Law Center in Washington, D.C.

He was in charge of class-action litigation at State Farm, earning a good living with good fringe benefits.

"I wasn't a novice in litigation," he said. "I'd had big-case litigation experience."

But it was not an easy decision to move Rosemary, daughter Katie and son Adam to Michigan on a financially tenuous proposition, he said. Another daughter, Robin, was born six years ago.

Bock rented office space from attorneys in the Citizens Bank building and devoted virtually all of his time to the workers' suits.

He did research, reviewed potential claims from hundreds of workers and wrote most of the court pleadings.

Katie and Dale Bock's brother, Matt, also helped with computer and document duties, while Rosemary helped with proofreading.

They did not go it alone: There was co-counsel Valdemar L. Washington, a former Genesee Circuit Court judge, and a determined group of clients who not only helped finance the litigation but also provided emotional support.

Two years into the case, famed trial lawyer Gerry Spence also joined the workers' legal team, bringing more resources and a higher profile.

The legal team discovered key evidence through luck or happenstance because Milacron wouldn;t reveal it, Bock said.

"(And) we were fortunate to have a judge who would take the time to learn the case, who stuck this case out for 10 years," said Bock, referring to Genesee Circuit Judge Geoffrey L. Neithercut.

"Without all that, this case would have been a quiet disaster."

But the most important piece might have been Bock, a soft-spoken, unassuming man who has the tenacity and determination of his father, his colleagues and clients said.

"Dale Bock went way above and beyond," said Meyer, who went on disability for lung and other problems similar to George Bock's. "He did things that just amazed us."

Setbacks, then resolution

Bock and Washington initially sought to make the case a class action, meaning that hundreds or even thousands of other workers might have been able to seek damages if it went forward.

Ultimately, they decided to pursue the workers' claims individually because a class action would have prolonged the litigation for several more years.

A big blow came in 2001, when the state Court of Appeals overturned Neithercut and ordered that GM be dismissed from the case, saying the workers hadn't established a claim against the automaker.

But the appeals court denied Cincinnati Milacron's appeal for dismissal, and the Michigan Supreme Court subsequently refused to hear an appeal of the appellate decision.

Settlement terms were not disclosed, and it is unclear how many workers were compensated in the litigation.

Bock would say only that "many dozens" of the 555 workers who asked to be included in the litigation had verifiable claims.

He, Washington and other attorneys who worked on the case were compensated for their work. But for him, at least, there was no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, he said.

"We both came through it OK," he said, referring to Washington. "Did I do better than I would have done if I'd have stayed in my old job? No. But I don't know that I could have done it differently."

The case was never about money, said Bock, who signed off on any interest in his father's estate to avoid a potential conflict.

"My dad and my mom were decent, hard-working blue-collar people who would do anything for someone who needed help. They taught me early on it was more about decency, integrity and honesty.

"My dad always told me that he didn't care about money. It was just the way people kept score."

Still angry at GM

Dale Bock said he's "sickened" that GM escaped the litigation before all the evidence could be heard.

In dismissing GM from the case, the appeals court made it even tougher for workers to recover damages in what already was an employer-friendly state, he said.

Two similar lawsuits by workers at the Flint Metal Center and the former Buick City complex are still pending. But there's hardly been a boom of similar cases across the country, he said.

Still, the suits have resulted in a greater awareness of the hazards of metalworking fluids, he said. The V-8 plant is gone, and Flint Engine South, the new factory on Van Slyke, has a much safer system, he said.

"I think we think we have changed forever how these metalworking fluids are used," Bock said. "There also has been a tremendous amount of satisfaction and relief for these workers and their families."

With the case finished, Bock is starting over again, handling labor-related cases from an office on Miller Road in Flint Township.

Katie Bock, now 21, plans to become a lawyer, largely because of her experience in her grandfather's case.

Dale Bock said he's still struck by ironies in the case.

His father, a loyal company man, was a top suggestion award winner at the engine plant and paid for all of his son's education with bonuses from suggestion awards, the younger Bock said.

But after his father became sick, the company treated him like a malingerer and refused to grant him worker's compensation, he said.

The week of his father's funeral, he told company attorneys he would go away if GM paid the worker's comp it owed, Dale Bock said.

And if they didn't?

"I told them, 'I'm George Bock with two law degrees,'" he said.

Lawmakers Vow to Work With Auto Industry
Thursday May 18, 2:23 pm ET - By Ken Thomas, Associated Press Writer

Big 3 Automakers, Federal Lawmakers Look for Ways to Boost U.S. Industry

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Lawmakers who met with the leaders of the Big Three U.S. automakers on Thursday pledged to work with them to help the industry compete against foreign carmakers.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said the Congress members and auto executives were confident they could work together to "bring back the American automobile industry where we think it should be and they think it should be."

"We recognize that there are problems and we are going to work as partners with them," Reid said. "Perhaps in the last many years we have not worked together as well as we should have."

General Motors Corp. Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner, Ford Motor Co. Chairman and Chief Executive Bill Ford, and Tom LaSorda, president and CEO of DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group, crisscrossed the corridors of Capitol Hill for a series of closed-door meetings with congressional leaders.

Reid said it was the first of many meetings to develop a better partnership between government and industry.

Sen. Carl Levin, a Democrat who represents thousands of auto workers in Michigan, said the nation needs to be aggressive "in giving them support to level the playing field."

Ron Bonjean, a spokesman for House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., described his meeting with the automakers as a "positive and constructive dialogue" on ways to encourage alternative fuel vehicles and more availability of pumps serving ethanol blends. The automakers also expressed support for pension reform.

Auto industry officials had said the meetings would center on energy issues such as making ethanol fuels more widely available, the industry's challenges in meeting rising health care costs, trade issues and the need for more alternative fuel vehicles.

Ford, following a meeting with Senate Democrats, said it was a "great opportunity for the three of us to get together with the leadership and talk about the opportunities we have as a country and as an industry, particularly on fuels, and how we start to wean ourselves from dependence on foreign oil."

The Big Three executives arrived in vehicles powered by ethanol, decorated with images of corn stalks, to underscore their commitment to alternative fuels.

Domestic automakers have ramped up production of flexible fuel vehicles, capable of running on gasoline and fuel blends of up to 85 percent ethanol. But one of the obstacles is finding pumps that offer ethanol -- industry officials estimate that about 685 of the 165,000 fueling stations across the country offer ethanol blends, less than 1 percent of the stations.

The auto executives plan to meet in June with President Bush.

With some consumers paying $3 and beyond for a gallon of gasoline, Bush has sought an increase in the availability of ethanol and alternative fuels, more research for hybrid vehicle batteries and elimination of the cap on tax credits for the purchase of hybrids.

The Bush administration has also asked Congress to give it the authority to change fuel economy rules for passenger cars, a move that could lead to higher gas mileage requirements. The meeting comes at a challenging time for the domestic automakers. GM and Ford are executing major restructuring plans that would cut a combined 60,000 jobs and close more than two dozen plants by 2012. GM, meanwhile, has stockpiled parts in case workers at auto supplier Delphi Corp. go on strike.

Supporters of the industry say it faces competitive disadvantages against foreign manufacturers on issues such as trade and health care.
