these are ones you mentioned previously, any thoughts on these?

[he said hopefully, really hoping that some discord in the CLSI thread has not driven Queen Bee and her keen mind and wit away from allstocks yet again...]

here's to hoping you stick around, hey you can even quiz me and give me "homework" assignments.

i've looked into these a bit already, still in early stages of research on them. btw, i like your pro/con/summary format so much that i always use that format whenever i email about stocks to my brother and dad, i find it a good way to break things down.

well, this thread didn't exacty turn out like i had hoped, *sigh*. aren't 11 million "MSEP To The Moon" threads enough?

i even had Apache problems at work today with a new version control program install, bet you would have had that fixed in 3 seconds Purl, heh.

quite a day for GAXI. have to admit, as a pro-environment liberal, it bugs me a little to invest in them - just can't do it. it's sad what CBM has done to Wyoming, the "dewatering" leaves a lot to be desired and destroys large tracts of land, enough to bring a tear of joy to Dick Cheney's eye and warm his heart to 1 degree Kelvin.

will be interesting to see the "Viper" effect on EYDY, watching them. BLLI also looking quite strong lately.

Blue, don't ya just get agitated when people turn
your thread into a cluster fu*k?

Only stock you are looking at, I am looking at,
which is not behaving as I would like, is HUSA.
There just isn't any volume at all. A few others
are very low volume but beginning to perk up.

BLLI - this was a bandwagon stock once, some pumped
it successfully. However, BLLI has improved a lot.
They make dental tools and dental implants, and are
showing an improving trend. They have made a good
transition from red ink to black ink. They are just
barely into black ink and improving. Volume is up
over last year, average price is up over last year.

CYRO - makers of television graphics programs. They
have some big names as clients and lots of network
television stations. When you see graphics on the
news, that is CYRO software. They moved from red
ink last year to black ink this year. Prices are
up five cents per share, average, but low volume.

DFNS - defense industry, mostly body armor. They
also moved from red ink last year to black ink
this year. Prices moved from .45 to .85 last year
and now are 1.10 on the average.

EYDY - they make "eye scanners" for medical and
law enforcement usage. EYDY has a history of good
black ink but very low volume. Last year an average
price of .50 per and now .30 to .35 average. They
are undervalued, but revenue is down a bit for 2004
year, which seems to have dropped their value.

GAXI - as you know it jumped .18 today. I don't
need to write more. Perhaps some jumped in on
this one when I mentioned it.

HUSA - oil and gas, reminds me of GUSH which became
CNR stock. Undervalued, went from red ink to black
ink over the past year, mild profits, and yet
zero volume; no trading to speak of. Real odd.

IDIB and KPCG, I keep thinking investors will
eventually discover these. Both are undervalued
black ink companies with virtually no volume.
Reminds of my BSIC pick two years back at .25
per share, now at 2.00 per share. BSIS was black
ink, no volume, I brought attention to it, took
a year but others finally caught on; now up a
good eight-hundred percent. IDIB and KPCG have
potential for a one-hundred percent increase if
investors take notice of these companies.

MCZ - Mad Cats! They are simply a hot skyrocket!

PTSC - not sure where they are headed. I expected
a lot more action with their AMD deal news. Kinda
sputtered and went out.

Blue, I always read your articles, Keithsan, Glassman and a few others. You are making what
I believe to be good picks. I hoped you picked
some of GAXI and MCZ before the big rush.

Now your thread is back on topic. I hope the
pump and dump people take it elsewhere; reminds
of IBZT zombies jumping into every single thread.

Blue, I will add some trivia for GAXI stock.

Think it was two years back, maybe eighteen
months back, I warned people here to stay away
from GAXI stock because a "bubble burst" was
in the making.

GAXI was picked to be included in the S&P 500
which most thought was the best good news that
could be, which isn't true at all. The S&P is
just an index of good and bad stocks.

Well, GAXI sky rocketed on nothing news, I warned
others to stay away from it, the bubble burst and
prices fell to rock bottom.

Since then, GAXI has improved their bottom line,
a lot thanks to higher energy costs. Nonetheless
a good move from red ink to black ink. Their
increasing prices, this time, are warranted;
there is no gullible investor "bubble" now.

I should add I dumped IESV for a good profit.
You might want to watch IESV and wait for
prices to fall back, which they will. Another
few weeks, IESV will fall below its true value,
then correct upward. I will buy IESV again
without hesitation.

If you have ALMI, do not sell it. ALMI will keep
going up, with periodic dips in prices. ALMI is
good for a buck fifty at least. I am thinking
once they really get going, they will be hitting
the three to five dollar range. ALMI has yet to
truly market any of their clay; test market only
at this point.

Thanks for responding Purl, glad to see this thread back on track.

I have looked into all these companies you recommended, still researching though. Will post a few more comments here later, once have a little more edgar online reading done.

EYDY I find particularly interesting. They definitely tailed off after disappointing revenue the last few Q's, but - definitely seem to be undervalued. They seem very positive about their future and Viper and all that, it's also somewhat amusing that they seem hellbent on maintaining a 50% profit margin, they mention that several times in their filings. The question is - is this hype or overly positive thinking on their part, or truly to be believed? Of course I like that they are in good financial shape, paying off debts early and the like. I travel out to Torrance somewhat frequently on business, might stop by there if I get a minute in the upcoming months. I suspect they will dip a little further before doing up, but - that's just my guess, what do I know.

HUSA i have a lowball limit order out on, no fill yet though.

PTSC i picked up a little at .16 on a recent dip, just a very little though, ie - only 3k shares worth, probably won't go higher.

I just mentioned in the IESV thread before I read your post - I sold it but too early - only took .155, oh well. Bought half a position back at .125, have an order for the other half at .105, we'll see. Fundamentals would seem to indicate a consolidation period - they haven't talked about real $$$ numbers in their recent PR's, but - chart seems very bullish. We'll see, tough to call so I split the difference.

ALMI I don't even have on my ticker anymore, some days I even forget to check what it closed at. The part I am still holding, I have no plan on selling anytime soon.

Today I also added some CXTI at .98, EZEN at 1.02, some more NXG at 1.60, and more BWLRF at .59 to go with some HQSM at .26 yesterday. I completely missed the CNR tank to 1.50ish today, would have added, d'oh!! Dunno how I missed that one, still kicking myself, oh well. I sold FPPC and ASPN too early, oh well.

Like you, I'm a fan of BSIC and held it for quite awhile, but - I sold that one way too early too, can't believe it hit $2. I also foolishly sold DGIX at $1, has been a month of "selling too early" for me, I need to learn to hold on longer.

Blue, you and other readers will notice my attention
is on companies moving from red ink to black ink,
very recently, like from last year to this year.

Last year, the stock markets were absolutely boring,
just nothing going on, save for a noticable fall
in share value, across the board, during February
and March of last year. All-in-all, a big yawn
mediocre boring year with flattening revenues.

The hot speculative markets of 2003 are long gone
and now we have to really research to find anything
of interest.

My rationale for this investment year is those
companies which managed to move out of red ink
last year and into black ink this year, are the
stronger "penny stock" companies. Being able
to improve during last year, is quite a feat
and reflects a good management team.

Speculation is out, good fundamentals are in.

I believe those companies right on the verge of
or just now moving into black ink, will be the
winners for this year, and represent good buys
with share prices still low and company value
still undervalued; we are right on the edge
of mildly improving markets.

Being diversified will be more important than norm.

My opinion is companies involved in raw materials
will do the best, followed closely by service
industries, with entertainment companies coming
in next. High end technologies, electronics, big
televisions, even cell phones, I think will be
very flat or even move into losses.

These are times people are looking for stability
and are looking to stay home or enjoy inexpensive
entertainment close to home. These are times people
are hesitant to spend much money; basic needs will
be and are the most important.

This moves over into the investment community as
well. Many of us are looking for safe profitable
companies which move at a slower predictable rate
for growth and profit.

Highest risk I am willing to take for these times
of war, uncertainty, high energy costs and times
of a very worried public, highest risk I will
take is on those companies just now moving from
red ink to black ink.

This is why so many of my picks, are just such.

PG,

Just noticed you are back. Sure did miss you! Very pleased!!!!! Sure do hope you weren't ill or something else serious.

"now we have to really research to find anything
of interest". interesting thoughts, Purl - I've seen a lot of similar feelings out there, that things are harder now. most people in this "game" for awhile seem to be of the opinion that it was easier to find undiscovered, undervalued gems 2-3-4 years ago than it has been lately. in some part due to the economy (as your above post touched on), in some part due to perhaps more people digging so that market inefficiencies are corrected more quickly and undervalued stocks are quickly bought up.

i've only been at this one year, so - hard for me to comment, i just don't have a long enough baseline.

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

dang it, which one of you guys ran up EYDY today before i had a chance to get in?!? heh

"These are times people are hesitant to spend much money; basic needs will be and are the most important."

This, I mostly agree with PG, but - actually I am still somewhat bullish on some luxury items, thanks to the bush/cheney tax philosophies. The top .01% wealthiest should, relatively speaking, have some money to spare under this administration. A few luxury-selling companies I still like, and I just bought some JMIH at .27 this week in fact (boats).

Wallace, I have been in jail for the past year.

Early last year I decided to drive up the share
price of CLSI, Clancy Parking Systems, by cutting
the heads off all the parking meters here in our
hometown. Darn it, didn't help CLSI stock at all.

Anyhow, my friends now call me "Cool Hand Lucy"

buy order out for IDIB.OB at .42, no fill yet but maybe soon. no fill yet on CLSI at .017 either. GAXI all over the map today but nice recovery. still watching EYDY, short-term seems to be pointing down, hoping to catch some sub-.30, we'll see. can't believe i sold all my GEOI at $4, d'oh! still trying to accumulate more CXTI at .95 - i think the market has overly poo-poo'd their .28/sh 2004 earnings, i think they will continue to get contracts. we'll see.

Queen Parking Bee said:

"companies involved in raw materials will do the best"

any in particular - ie, raw materials, and/or companies? i assume in part you mean oil and gas, do you also mean things like copper, etc.? any particular favorites?

i have to say that i definitely have a commodities bent, and a full third+ of my holdings at the moment are in raw materials of one kind or another, everything from oil and gas to various metals (NTO, NXG, BWLRF, EDV.TO etc) to of course, halloysite clay, heh

have you ever called the wolfsons, PG? i was thinking of giving liz a call next week.

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

GEOI crossed $7 today, *sigh*. really surprised by the CXTI tank today, bought a little at .90, or about 3x last year's earnings. also added IPII at 1.52. NTO and ALMI, very nice days. still watching EYDY, still no fill on IDIB and CLSI limit buys - and, actually sitting above the bid all day. support looking pretty strong for IDIB at .41 range, risk seems fairly minimal from .42 range if you ask me. any thoughts on CNR, PG? i know they were one of your favorites back as GUSH, but haven't heard your opinion of them for almost a year now.

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

glad i bought that CXTI mentioned a few posts up: +.17 to 1.12, after reporting a whopping .33 yearly profit for 2004 today.

still can't understand why it dumped to .90, i'm not complaining though

Cuttin those heads off those meters may not have helped CSI, but they are still a solid growing company.

great day for EZEN so i'm happy overall, but i can't figure out why CXTI appears "broken".

.33 a share profit in 2004, good balance sheet and future prospects, and they can't even hold $1. doesn't make sense to me. i'm going to hold out of sheer stubborness, but - i just don't get why this is, maybe someone can explain to me...? is it just a lack of trust by investors for any chinese company, no matter how many US auditors verify their books?

is kind of too bad because there are a lot of chinese companies i really like and that look quite promising, so much growth potential there. but - seemingly every one just never moves, no matter how good the news.

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

will continue to chat with myself here, what the heck. bugged me to do it, but - CXTI is just "broken", took 1.08 and sold it all today. also sold my EZEN, will look to buy back if consolidates a bit from gains. added some more IPII at 1.52 today. still no IDIB fill at .41. CLSI looked slightly perky today. dang, HUSA is sparsely traded, no fill yet either. wondering about NTO's earnings tomorrow am, should be interesting. can't believe BSIC is closing in on $3 - as much as i like them, seems overvalued now.

very nice IPII movement this morning: out at 1.85, limit buy back in at 1.65

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

hope i can get my ipii back, i always sell too early - we'll see. looks good to me: trailing P/E around 7, business should be good with building supplies in florida due to hurricane rebuilding.

finally got some IDIB at .41 today.

lousy day for NTO, eck. luckily a good day for my other gold stocks. NTO i really don't care about short-term movements - is all in my roth, i want to see where they are 5-6 years from now when agua rica is in full swing. i could be wrong, but - i can't believe they'll be a $3 stock at that point.

put a fork in PTSC, ouch on today's ruling - thank goodness i only had a teeny position.

GAXI seems to have lost some momentum, still on the sidelines watching. you holding or folding, PG?

energy got hammered today, ouch! was looking for sale prices, picked up some CNR at 1.60, my limit buy for GAXI at 1.75 never filled though.

BSIC absolutely *crushed* today, and i can't say i'm surprised. one of my favorite stocks, but...$3??? they're just not worth $3, at least right now.

Posted by Purl Gurl on :

Blue, I moved us out of "oil" stocks middle of
last year. I have kept our natural gas holdings,
especially DVPC stock.

Yes, BSIC is overvalued by sixty-six percent.
The others, CNR, GAXI, same overvaluation. Just
another "oil bubble burst" in the making. People
should have jumped out back in January to be safe.

President Cheney, who some call Bush, has totally
ruined the oil markets at the expense of consumers
so he can create environmental disasters, especially
in Alaska which he has slated to become a tar pit,
then later claim to have created new jobs. Forgot
the billions in environmental damage and clean-up
in years to come. Hey, he created a half-million
dollars in jobs and will spend ten-billion in ten
years to clean up the mess.

PTSC is running around in circles. I almost jumped
on it a few days back when the court news came out
to ride a rebound, but no rebound at all. Nothing
stocks shares going around in circles.

Stock markets have had it. This will be another
really bad year because of high oil prices, which
are a direct result of republican policies.

I'm cashing out once again, save for a few natural
gas stocks. That cash, like last year, is going
into wet California real estate.

Purl Gurl

eh drats, hope that doesn't return your return here was a brief one.

my problem with junior oils was that i sold every one too early: BSIC, FPPC, TGA, CNR, ASPN, you name it. shoulda held 2 more weeks, *sigh*. eh oh well, i'm somewhat of a chicken. big energy i am still holding - COP, CVX, and FDG, sold the rest. i find it hard to sell these with oil at 55. i'm wary of a bubble, but - think they might have a tad further to go, we'll see.

DVPC i remember you discussing a year ago, will look into again. any other natural gas that you still like?

i'm somewhat bearish about the overall market, but - that doesn't mean i'm not finding stocks i like at reasonable prices. was surprised to get PDGE at 1.47 today, somewhat similar company to HOM. HOM i've continuously churned through the "buy at 1.48 sell at 1.62" cycle over and over this year, but - this time am holding until the earnings.

some foreign stocks are also appealing to me and starting to look into, ie - NAM.AX. just wish they were easier/cheaper to buy.

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

got a little CLSI today at .017, and have orders out at .016 and .015.

added NMKT at .545 today, seems cheap to me at that price.

Posted by Purl Gurl on :

Blue writes about HOM,

"buy 1.48 ... sell 1.62"

Yes, very nice cycle. Today is an oddity, more of
a silent pump. Visit here,

http://www.siliconinvestor.com/subject.aspx?subjectid=50570

You will discover a person over there stumbled into
HOM stock and is pumping it. You have noticed a bunch
of them bought driving share price up, which fell
promptly back to where it should be.

Earnings will be very good for HOM. However, after
my watching HOM for several years, historically
there will be a rush before earnings, but not much
of a rise, flat on earnings day, then a fall back
to 1.50 to 1.60 range.

Not quite two years back, HOM made it to 2.00
per share. Hasn't been there since. Nonetheless
there is some, not much, but some potential on
the make for that kind of move again. HOM is
profitable and in a good growth stage.

Blue, I do not know that any of what I write will
happen with certainty, but that has happened for
the last three or four earnings statements, all of
which were decent.

I used to work HOM, buy a bunch at 1.42 and sell
at 1.56 but prices are more stable this quarter.
This could suggest prices may rise very nicely
with the next earnings. Remember the boys over at
the silicon board are now hot on HOM which will
most likely drive prices up a little bit.

DVPC, take a look at today. Something is cooking.
Might be they are just about finished with their
pipeline to market. Maybe some insider buys, this
is, insiders like employees, friends, field hands
who know what is going on; insiders who do not
have to report to the SEC.

Forgot to add, Blue, this would be a good time
to buy more IESV. I sold mine during the last
spike, and today am accumulating again around
.084 to .086 per share. I believe .08 will prove
to be new bottom support, so buys will have to
be a bit above that.

Next good news should push prices to .10 / .11
per share, "maybe" a little higher.

Purl Gurl

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

heh, - i did in fact already add IESV today, i see my limit buy triggered. along with some TMFZ, NMKT, CLSI, and probably a few others (haven't checked all accounts yet).

i looked into DVPC a little this weekend but 10-year old girls were running around screaming as my daughter had a sleepover, so was a difficult environment to read Q's and K's. didn't find much info on it yet, will keep looking though

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

HOM i am still trying to decide how long to hold - didn't sell it at 1.62 like usual last time i bought at 1.48. i'd like to hold into the Q at least, i agree seems like always a bump on Q day followed by a quick selloff. i like HOM though, the RAM thing was a disappointment didn't pan out but otherwise they are growing quite quickly. i think will hit $2 eventually, but - not sure when. probably will put it all up at 1.85: if it hits, fine, if it doesn't, i don't mind holding. need to do a little more reading first before finally deciding what to do.

you want to see an odd company? check out this one - CYDS.OB:

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ks?s=CYDS.OB

how many companies do you know of that are trading at 47% of book and 12% of sales, have a trailing PE of 5, and so much cash that their enterprise value is a measly 870k? enterprise value 3% of revenue, heh.

been trying to buy a few K shares at .29 for awhile, but - no luck, will keep trying. just - can't resist going in for a little, with those numbers. very strange.

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

ever see a chart that just almost made you want to cry?

i thought selling FPPC at 2 bucks was bad (closed at 3.05 today) and selling BSIC at $1 was worse (hit 2.95), but GEOI almost as painful. got in at 2.80, out at 3.76 a month ago, hit nine-freakin'-bucks and twenty cents today.

*sigh*

Stop looking back, Blue. That will only drive you
crazy. Should I tell you how I could have bought
Microsoft when you were still in diapers, but I
passed on it thinking Microsoft would never amount
to much of anything?

I am looking at your CYDS stock. Wow! The numbers
are really good. Year 2003 they really did good.
Mild loss in 2000, profit ever since save for
a mild loss in quarter one of 2005. Overall, for
2001 to 2005 years, a black ink healthy company.

Late last year they show a sixteen percent increase
in revenues but a forty-six percent drop in income.
Still profitable, however. Last year was a bad year
for most companies. I would expect retail clothing
to fall off during bad years because people look
for cheap entertainment, such as nudist colonies.

Get it? Clothing to fall off, nudist colony....

Well, so, what is up with this stock? It has been
flatlining for almost a year although a good record
on the finacial side.

I am thinking to buy some of this and sit on it,
in the nude.

queen of the five stars, here are some others you might find of interest that I started to look into.

They are all of a certain "mold" - ie, profitable microcaps with low P/E's and good balance sheets. This of course rules out many interesting companies (ALMI for example), but - was curious about this "niche".

Am going to set up a .xls and track an index of perhaps 50 of this "type" of stock, and see how it performs as an "index fund" over time. i can email you the .xls if you are interested, my email is blue_in_mich@yahoo.com - just drop me an email if you're interested.

note that these are only "thumbnails", i need to do more DD on each.

This are great picks.

Most interesting, Blue! I have about one-third of
those in my database and some on my active watch
list. You and I share some common thinking.

Just for fun and this is only for fun, here are
my predictions for this week for some of those.

CYDS, APES and TARG will go up.

EPLN, MDTI, OISI and PIOL will remain the same.

IPII and MILAA will peak and fall.

Most of the rest will go down.

Readers should note my comments are strictly for
fun and amount to nothing more than guesses based
taking a few minutes to look at each stock.

Do NOT buy or sell based on my comments. They are
just for fun and have no factual basis.

Thanks, Blue. I am researching a bunch of those
stocks right now, adding them to my database.

I sent your CYDS to some friends and advised them
to keep an eye on this one. Low volume today but
prices jumped a bit! I also told them to be sure
to read your articles, now and in the future.

d'oh! shoulda just paid the ask for CYDS all last week. not much chance of that .29 fill now, oh well.

IPII i hope you're right and goes back down, sold it on the recent run hoping to get back cheaper.

would be curious to hear your rationales for the ups/downs, and in particular why most will go down. am guessing in part it has to do with your other post today, re: UCLA?

Posted by Purl Gurl on :

Blue, my up and down "fun" projections are based
on what I see in technical charts, maybe for the
next two or three days.

I read the general trend, volume changes, down
volume versus up volume, if prices are pushing
up or pushing down overall. Another factor I look
at is the "steepness" of a rise or a fall. A few
of those I see "bandwagon" rising which indicates
a soon and serious fall. Yet another consideration
is _most_ volume above or below end-of-day close.

Readers be sure to understand my projections are
just for fun and are most likely dead wrong. Just
having some fun. Don't take my comments seriously.

CYDS, I am hoping low volume will push prices
back down to your .29 or .30 then I will buy
and tell my friends to buy. CYDS will kinda be
like CLSI; buy and forget about it, let it set.

I don't find anything about CYDS which indicates
they will move into losses. They have a very
good history of profits. Nothing there to cause
a skyrocket but there is a history which tells
me CYDS will slowly creep upward in value. That
works for me during these bad financial times.

Hey, when men can no longer afford to take their
motorized toys on vacation, when men decide to
stay home to save money, we women start buying
clothes to sooth our worries. CYDS will be there.

Filled up the Mercedes SEL last night. $52.00
for a tank. I would rather park and buy clothes.

big volume bump in ETLT today, liked what i saw of the trading patterns. going to be an interesting next few months for them, between the Q, e-sea news, and us expansion plans. a weird stock, but - i like it, am holding.

NMKT, ATVE - classic case of "show me the money". you can only project so much, and their forward projections are very good, *but* - gotta show it on the Q, at this point. i like both of these, but admit that i wouldn't put a large amount on either - strike me as appropriate either for swing-trades or small long bets.

IPII become a pretty dependable daytrade, much like HOM was, did some swings yesterday and today. guess i shoulda sold HOM, but - eh that's ok, i'll hold for the Q, see how it goes.

CXTI, just plain "broken". trailing PE of 3, awarded a whopping contract today, and - they are *down* on the day. how can that be? a total "head case" stock. i just don't get it, guess nobody trusts them. sold out of frustration last week, guess i should have waited and sold it on the (very brief) peak today before the crash.

Posted by Purl Gurl on :

Blue writes,

"CXTI, just plain "broken"."

I cannot figure what is wrong on this one. I too
tried to sell today at 1.09 per share. Prices were
there but only briefly and no volume at that price.

CXTI should be really cooking. I've gone back over
the numbers several times to learn if I missed an
item of importance. I don't think so.

Great financial report recently, new contract with
the government over there indicating even greater
revenue and profit, but CXTI cannot stay above the
1.00 per line. It should be about 1.25 to 1.50 now.

Any notion what is "broken" on this one, Blue?
I have given up trying to figure out why traders
are not all over this one; it is a sure-fire bet.

Purl Gurl

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

re: CXTI, a very odd one. i used to think that the reason they couldn't move up was because everyone was fretting about their big contracts coming to an end, and worried that revs might go down in 2005.

now, after they freakin' went *down* after yesterday's PR, i suspect it goes deeper. some of it may still be fretting over when revenue will be recognized and all that. but - there's more to it, strikes me that part of it comes down to people simply not believing the numbers. not sure what else it could be - they can't sustain a move to anything above 3x their trailing earnings. trading might also indicator a large holder dumping off shares into any rally. dunno, wish i could explain it - just plain "broken".

i like CXTI and would actually like to hold it long. but - just can't, though will continue to try to swing-trade it. if it goes to low-.90's again, i'm back in in search of a 10% swing on good news.

bought ETLT at .41 and made the mistake of not selling at the peak of .57, but - my feeling is that their next filing will be quite good, i want to hold awhile and see how the spring shapes up. it really is pretty amazing if you start to run the numbers on e-sea.

from their PR: "The units sold by E-Sea range in price from $50,000 to $100,000. As a result of a growing backlog of orders, the company plans on increasing production to about 100 units per moth by January 2005."

running the numbers, that's perhaps $75M of yearly revenue added in, if things go well, for a $15M company - which discounts the royalties e-sea should generate, and their other ridiculously profitable businesses.

a strange company, no doubt, but - much like CYDS, i can't resist ETLT. i had a lengthy phone conversation with their IR guy, which was mostly favorable, though he (not surprisingly) wouldn't give me any specific numbers on the e-sea backlog. i'm going to hold, we'll see how it goes.

ATVE is another one that is somewhat in the CXTI category, surprised they went nowhere on their PR yesterday. projecting earnings of .06-7 next year, but they can't hold .19 share price. they are a little different than CXTI in that CXTI has passed the "show me the money" test whereas ATVE still has to prove it, but still am surprised that ATVE is floundering so much though with similar very minor bumps off PR's as CXTI has. i figured they'd at least hold a projected forward P/E of 4, rather than struggling to stay above 3, given that their last 2 Q's were mildly profitabale (if late).

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

TMFZ, am still surprised that it has dips below $3. i haven't come across too many companies that have a good balance sheet, as well as revenues and profits ramping up this quickly:

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/is?s=TMFZ.OB

maybe i'm out in left field on this one, but - will continue to add on dips, trailing P/E under 6 at this point, i also like that the float is under 4M shares, nice margins too.

TGCI, just drives me crazy. everything looked good about it to me, bought it at 2.80. then all the filings hit, insiders sold almost everything. i am not joking - some of the key guys in management sold so much that they were left with only 100 shares after their dumping, literally *less than my 12 year old had in his account from his lawnmowing and checks from grandma fund*.

wtf, key insiders don't want to hold more than my 12 year old?!?! sold it at 2.70. so, right after all the insiders dump, they release a PR about record revenues and profits, hit an all time high of 4.18 today.

just makes you shake your head and walk away, i just don't get it. why the heck did all these key insiders sell it all off, if they knew they'd have a great Q?!?!?!

grrrrrrrrrrrr... makes me testier than PG when the oil boys get her worked up...

HOM's "run" (heh) today on earnings very reminiscent of CXTI's "run" last week.

in other words: lasted about 3 minutes, and then spiked back down, then gradually decayed until it ended up down a few % on the day.

unfortunately, my limit sell i set awhile ago at 1.69 didn't go through, and then didn't even check in until late afternoon, oh well.

earnings and growth potential look pretty good, though i still need to read the full filing. would have been .04/sh if not for RAM one-time, so: hopefully forward PE should be under 10 for HOM. eh, kind of disappointing not to "flip" it today like all the other times in the past, but - eh, oh well, i don't mind holding it. we'll see how it goes, hopefully some new contracts coming up and some action off the Cornerstone deal.

studied IDIB some more this week, really i have to say PG that they look pretty good, am surprised they've dipped this far. have a little at .40, trying to get more at .38 but no luck so far.

CTON very frustrating, sat right near the ask for a long time but never got it, now has made a substantial bump up.

CYDS dipping back to .30 range, trying to add.

EYDY dipping, have an order out at .24, we'll see.

disappointing last Q for ADGO released today, but still - trailing PE of 12, nice bal sheet - would go in on a dip to 1.40's. wish i knew more about golf clubs, my set is a $20 garage sale job with the heads duct-taped on, heh. quit laughing - shot an 87 last time out with them!

JMIH still sitting on .28 to add, got elbowed out today though, drats.

CPTC, would really like to buy a measly few hundred shares because i like the company's idea so much, but - am a bit petrified of the falling knife, have held off so far. $2 and i'm in for a little though.

TGCI, i want to go and smack their CEO and VP. looking at edgar filings, the CEO dumped 75% of his holdings on 2/2:

http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/799165/000092996605000005/xslF345X02/primary_doc.xml

and the VP dumped all but 100 (!) freaking measly shares 1/31:

http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/799165/000092996605000006/xslF345X02/primary_doc.xml

i sold it all for a dime loss at 2.65 after these guys dumped, a few weeks later they issued big earnings report, it hit 4.85 today, *sigh*.
maybe i'm an idiot for selling, but - WTF were these guys thinking, selling a few weeks before a good earnings report? especially the VP, only felt comfortable holding *100* shares for a lousy $280?! geez.

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

oops, make that .41 that i bought IDIB at, fwiw

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

very nice bottoming action by IDIB, appears to be reversing, though a little early to say. doubled my holdings at .39 a few days ago, looks like a very good risk/reward potential to me from low-.40's.

EYDY took off on the OrthoNetx acquisition news just before i could get it cheap, oh well. not sure of the synergies between the two companies, still reading a bit and trying to decide on it. my hunch is it will come back down after it cools off a bit, am going to wait for now.

looking forward to TMFZ and ETLT reports due out later this week, am holding, thinking both will be good.

out HOM 1.68 yesterday, limit buy order back out for 1.48, we'll see

NMKT can't believe how far it's dumping, added at .395 today. someday, i think it will have it's day. not sure when, but - someday.

really is amazing how far NMKT has fallen - i bought 1k each at .545, .46, and .395, all within the last 2 weeks; i guess my worst decision lately.

a 40% selloff due to an 8K about a measly few million buck financing, that didn't strike me as all that big a deal, they later issued a clarification. maybe i'm missing something, but - i don't get it, i think will bounce. they are mighty close to profitability and revs ramping up quickly, seems a reasonable risk to me to hold for something with NMKT's growth potential. we'll see.

maybe i should rename this thread the "blue_in_MI blabbers on to himself" thread, heh...

nice bounce (.49 at this point) by NMKT today, about freakin' time!! maybe not my worst decision afterall to buy on the way down.

bounce coming off "letter to shareholders":

http://www.newmarkettechnology.com/newsreleases/20050330_1.htm

as usual, philip can't resist talking about naked shorting, even concludes the letter this this sentence:

"We look forward to the day when naked short sellers will eventually be caught painfully short to the financial benefit of genuine shareholders."

*sigh*. i still maintain that it's one thing for me or glass or whoever to chat about potential naked shorting on this board, but frankly i'd rather not have CEO's of companies i own stock in discussing it prominently in letters to shareholders. Verges' efforts would be better spent running the company, imho.

out half my NMKT .525, out IDIB .50; limit buys at lower prices set back out for both

You just keep on blabbling, Blue, because I am making
money off your blabbling.

IDIB, yes, I am working this one at .38 to .41 per
share. A very slow moving, low volume stock, IDIB
should move up when economies improve. Good solid
profitable company which is undervalued.

HOM is acting just as always. I cannot figure why
share price does not move up. HOM keeps pumping out
good financials, clearly profitable, but prices
still stay in the 1.50 to 1.65 range. I always buy
HOM if it falls below 1.50 per.

CXTI is in the same boat. Excellent financials
but prices won't move up.

EYDY, darn good news, a bit of excitement, then
right back down again.

ROBE is another I have not mentioned here. Good
financial report, a good jump in prices, now it
is sliding back down.

CLSI, back to accumulation tomorrow, the first
day of the next quarter.

I am beginning to believe there is not enough
confidence amongst investors to keep prices up.
My hunch is the price of oil is the main effect
dampening stock prices.

You and I are vested in many of the same stocks.
I am closely watching all stocks you mention.

Back to ALMI, I plan to sell the ten-thousand
shares I picked up today, around 1.18 to 1.20
when we get back up there. This will be my
fourth swing play on ALMI, while retaining my
core holdings as you are doing.

You keep on blabbling to yourself because you
do have an avid reader, me.

thanks for responding, Purl. i have to admit - was starting to think that there wasn't much point for me to post here, because i figured my dad and brother were the only ones reading my posts and that it was easier to just email them. if i posted about MSEP then people might read, heh. oops, i did post about MSEP (and OCRI, etc) awhile back and got in immediate trouble over it and was labeled a "basher", never mind!

are you watching RVNM's inexorable "countdown to .0001"? very amusing, only a matter of time.

HOM i think might have moved up for good, but - people were disappointed the RAM thing fell through, also i think their poor-mediocre balance sheet holds people back a bit, they have some debt. definitely profitable and growing though. i agree, i also am still a buyer at 1.50 level. would like to hold it long, but - just no sense in doing it at this point, is such a reliable swing-trader. someday they will turn the corner into a good "long", though.

EYDY i still need to re-read all of their latest acquisition stuff, looks interest and promising but still not sure of synergies. Have two limit buy orders set out at different prices, after just missing it last time before the jump.

CLSI is showing real support at .0171. was hoping it'd have some .016 dips like was so thrilled it had to load up on last year, but - support looks pretty strong. i may have to raise my limit buy prices to get the last ~30% i want (already 70% in).

ROBI i have not heard of, will look into.

JMIH i wonder if you are watching the spread drop a bit yesterday, am still hoping to get my final chunk at .28.

thanks very much for your IDIB tip, made some nice profit from it! have orders out to buy it back at .41 and .43, we'll see.

Purl, i, uh, meekly tried to email you one of my spreadsheets with a lot of research in it, because I thought you might find it of particular interest. not sure i even had the correct address though or if it would get through your spam filters. I'm very appreciative of all the help you've given me the last year, I fully admit that you're my #2 "mentor" and shaped my investment views and thoughts more than you know (don't feel bad, Peter Lynch is #1, read "One Up on Wall St" 3 times in the past year - it is not too shabby to be only one behind peter lynch though, heh!). I feel somewhat badly that I've "taketh" much more than i've "giveth" with you, so I am happy to share any or all research I do with you, if it's of any help at all (you can just PM me here or email me at blue_in_mich@yahoo.com). Most of what I have is either spreadsheets with a lot of notes, or notes from phone calls to companies. Clearly though, you hardly need any research "help", so - can just ignore this if you already received or are otherwise not interested, sorry!

JMIH, i want to find time to give them a call sometime next week. Still really like them (hard to find good value and great growth potential in the same stock), but my main 2 questions are: (1) they shouldn't need to take loans from their CEO anymore, they are in good financial shape. their profits would have been .013 instead of .01 last Q had it not been for having to pay a loan-guarantee back to the boss, am hoping this won't continue anymore. (2) not sure of costs related to both their leasing their new space, and R+D costs for their new 37' boat. i dunno much about boat building, so not sure if they would have had to pay a lot to get the 37' up and into production.

hmm, interesting, this ROBE. revs were decreasing yearly, but - definitely a turnaround recently, good 10K this week. .03 a share profit on the year, some debt but not too bad. a few new products.

nanoclusters!! have they called ALMI about time-releasing their vanilla slim shake?!?! heh

looks interesting, on my radar. i suspect will dip a bit further as people "forget" and lose interest after the run this week, sometimes investors have too short of an attention span. definitely happened with IPII/IMPL lately, people lost interest/got bored and sold, and i profited nicely from their boredom the last few weeks.

surprising how few OTC "nano" plays actually are profitable. a lot out there, but most are junk, not really nano, or adept at losing millions. 2 of the only proifitable ones i've found are SOTK and MFIC. both are pretty thin (very large P/B's, etc) but - are interesting, and profitable, are both on my radar. MFIC in particular i might buy it it dips another 15%. lots of nano-speculators out there to drive up prices, and i like the "crutch" of trying to pick *profitable* OTC nano companies.

TMFZ 10K just out - earned .17 for the Q, .58 for the year. so - trailing P/E a measly 5. dunno how market will react - could be positive because they kicked butt the last year, could be negative because people have undies abunch over rising rates (though TMFZ i don't believe is as susceptible to rising rates as other mortgage lenders).

i'm certainly hoping for the former, since i have a decent amount of TMFZ shares, we'll see.

maybe i'm out in left field on this one, but - will continue to add on dips, trailing P/E under 6 at this point, i also like that the float is under 4M shares, nice margins too.

another 10K out: VFIN after the bell yesterday. nice bumpup in revs and profits in Q4. doubt they'll repeat the 1-time 1Q numbers, but - good bal sheet ($5M cash), and nice recovery particularly in Q4. looks attractive to me for a little from .32-.33 range.

Blue, I have your VFIN on my live feed. I also am

got a little at .31, sitting on .29 for a little more (i hope).

TMFZ sold half at 3.15 (luckily), keeping the other half.

crazy morning, lots of trading!!! luckily am off work today to "enjoy" it. going to go hit some golf balls with my 12-year old to work off some of the crazy trading-stress from this morning!!

APES got absolutely *crushed* this am, tempted by .51 but clearly they had a bad last Q, haven't had time to read the 10K yet and figure out if i still want in or not

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

APES would have been a good buy at .51 i suppose, bounced, but - now i am finally having a chance to read their 10K:

http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1085545/000090901205000301/t301734.txt

quite the greedy little guy, this Philip Luizzo. directly from the filing above, he got paid $300K base, $125K bonus, plus $928 a month for a car! $928 a month, that is not too shabby, i bet you could lease a mighty nice car for that.

well guess what, Philip, Mr. $928 a month car allowance bigshot: I no longer want to buy stock in your little company, mainly due to the fact that you are one greedy man. you took nearly exactly half of the profits (both the company, and Luizzo, made right around $328K for the year). your greed makes me wonder if you care more about yourself, or the company. ironically, if you would have not been so greedy, and allowed the company to show perhaps a $100K profit increase over last year, your stock wouldn't have tanked so badly yesterday. I see you own about 2M shares of stock, so - yesterday's tank-job probably cost you more in your stock value, than you gouged out of the company by your ridiculous bonus. perhaps you can contemplate on that as you drive around in your $928 a month car, courtesy of the company's stockholders. If you're an executive for say GE, a $125K bonus is one thing. but for a teeny OTC company? pfft. I no longer want to be a stockholder in your company, pay for your own damn car, buddy.

really a pretty impressive Q for NWD released recently, surprised they didn't at least move up to upper-.80's. although it's traditionally their best Q, they still had quite a nice Q4 - impressive growth in both profits and revs if you look at the last 4 Q's financials.

it doesn't make me feel all that bad to see APES continued crash today.

ETLT showing minor signs of life, 10K this week will be interesting.

OISI, i don't see any bad news, but suddenly the floor on the bid dropped out to an absurd .65 - what am i missing?! just released a nice 10K.

BIPH continues to amaze, reminds me a bit of ALMI during it's run. not just because of the nano aspect, just the amazing buying pressure behind it. a little too scary for me to dip into, but - wouldn't surprise me at all to see it break $4 within a few weeks.

a few others am looking into lately that initially look appealing - GMAI, MIG, RTWI. anyone with thoughts on these?

CLSI, ALMI, CYDS, IDIB all looking pretty bullish the last few days. i suspect i won't get a fill on the last 30% of the CLSI i wanted, was too cheap - oh well.

trying to get cheap OISI and RIMS today, also watching WTEK and hoping for a dip into the mid-upper .40's for a buy, and the same for CPTC in the 2.20's and EYDT at .24, we'll see

NMKT showing a bit of stubborness resisting it's usual pattern of slowly decaying back into the .40's, still half-in for now and watching.

PDGE still skittish heading into earnings, am holding

RVNM just a few ticks away from it's final destination of .0001, won't be long now

Yes, EYDY is acting funny, as usual. I am trying
to accumulate at .25 per share. They are a good
company with a good financial history but lack
in volume. They are undervalued. It is low volume
which concerns me about EYDY. Not sure why it is
not more active.

CLSI, certainly acting bullish.

IDIB, working on .35 to .36 per share.

Hi Everyone,

I am pretty new to the board and trading in general. I have studied the different technical analysis tools available and have done well analyzing stocks, once identified. My question for all of you is what software or method do you use to identify your stocks. There are so many stocks available and it would take hours just look at them. Thanks for your time.

Posted by Purl Gurl on :

Snow Family,

"There are so many stocks available and it would
take hours just look at them."

You answered your own question.

There is NO software which will "pick" winner
stocks for you. Your best software is your brain.

Jim Cramer, this morning, said it takes about two
years to become good at stock investment. You are
the software you need, along with spending eight
to twelve hours a day researching stocks.

Purl Gurl

Posted by snowfamily1 on :

I guessed as much. What method do you use to narrow your search (P/E, Voliatility, 52 Low, Etc)?

Posted by Purl Gurl on :

Snow Family asks,

"What method do you use to narrow your search....?"

Best answer, "Good common sense."

There is no single method which is good. Use every
method known, and then some. This "then some" is
knowing a little bit about everything, such as
knowing what is going on worldwide at any given
moment; Venezula, what effect on oil price?

Seems odd, but investor age plays an important
part. Older people, generally, are more in touch
with the world and people. Older people have a
history and can better predict "things" going
on locally and out in the world. Older people
have experience; they are not easily fooled.

People here will tell you my emphasis is on basic
fundamentals, and on plays lasting one to three
months, sometimes more.

It is pretty hard to go wrong with a company which
has a good history of profits, yes?

Get to know the world, get to know all peoples
around the world. Then you will be better prepared
to predict where the money will travel.

Purl Gurl

Posted by Purl Gurl on :

I wrote,

"...where the money travels."

Is not that what stock investment is all about?

Profit is simply providing a product a lot of
people want, profit is predicting where the
money will flow next. Profit is predicting
into which sector will money flow next.

Money use to flow into the internet and computers.
Money then flowed into oil but is drying up.

So, where will money flow next?

It is all the same money, simply changing flow
direction depending on "people's perception."

Jim Cramer, again this morning, said,

"You have to take your money off the table. If
you don't, you are not doing anything."

Otherwords, move your money around with the flow;
go with the flow.

Do you have any good "sources" for acquiring this information. I have four kids and I am a graduate student, meaning I don't have the available time to sort through the "mountains" of information available, not all of userful either.

I understand that there is no magic location for stock picks or everyone and their brother would be making money hand over fist. I was just looking for your method, since you come across as being very knowledgable.

Thanks for your comments.

Snow Family writes,

You should not be taking risks. Secure a good future
for your kids, before all else. Keep your money in
your pocket. Protect your children, always.

If you must, read all articles by Blue In Mi who
has a family and limited time. He is quite the
conservative stock guru. He does very well at
finding safe prudent gambles.

Safest bet is a mutual fund or hedge fund with
a broker with a GOOD REPUTATION.

Best bet, real estate.

Read Blue's articles, seriously.

snow - some good advice from Purl! with the exception of course is that you likely would be better off not listening to my meandering gibberish. i would counter by saying that you should read through Purl's posts from the last year, one can learn a lot. i have many of them saved into various files that i refer to frequently, here is one of her writings from maybe a year ago that's pertinent to your question (hope you don't mind if i "reprint" without requesting first, PG):

----

1)Searching for a stock

I visit every stock message board I can find,
then jot down all stock picks listed for
later research. Out of one-hundred stocks
mentioned on stock message boards, I usually
find one or two worthy of investment.

2)Selecting a stock

Fundamentals first, volume second. Technicals
for entry and exit points.

3)Watching a stock

SEC filings first, company news second,
technicals third and stock message board
comments last.

4)Buying a stock

Potential based on fundamentals. I look for
companies with improving finances, or good
finances and which are undervalued.

I never invest in pumped or bandwagon stocks.

5)Selling a stock

This is based on estimation of financial
condition to share value ratio. When share
value reaches a point which is in keeping
with financial condition, time to sell.

----

i would agree with just about all of the above.

of course, some decisions on what to look for depend on your investment "style", ie - PG and i are both relatively conservative and value-seeking.

i'd add to PG's quotes above that i like to use various stock screeners. they are useful for searching for stocks such as: trading under book, or revs rising rapidly, or P/E under 10, or - whatever you want to look for. lots of times when you look into the stocks further they disappoint for another reason (ie they might be under book, but the book value isn't realistic because it's 40% in goodwill). but - i still find screeners a useful starting point for generating ideas, just as is for example scanning message boards. you have to wade through some junk at times, but - there are a lot of good posters here at allstocks - PG, glassman, keithsan, osubucks, and several others, that generate several interesting ideas worth looking into to see if you also like them.

good luck! ah i remember my grad school days, were fun (if tough, not to mention with 4 kids, wow!). just make sure not to cheese off any prof on your prelim committee! i made that mistake when i was in grad school in ann arbor years ago. was a TA for an Astro 101 class where the prof taught creationism to the class, rather than big bang and other scientific theories. i was horrified! in the TA sections, told my students that i thought every word the prof said re: creationism was wrong, that clearly the universe was not only 4 million years old and all that other stuff. students got all atitter, i got dragged in front of the department chair and an independent counsel for not backing down, was a real mess. the prof made my life a living hell during the 4-hr oral exams as payback, ouch! was worth it though if you ask me, heh.

i'm amazed you can find time to do *any* stock research, being in grad school, and with 4 kids. wow!

Posted by glassman on :

you are lucky the prof only had the exams to work you over on....if you did that with you're advising professor/PI? you might end up actually having to fight just to get published...
or worse, you're PI might refuse to have his/her name associated with your paper even when it does get published....

Purl - very interesting, this MKRS, looked into a bit. wish i saw your post earlier, quite a jump today on the PR. i suspect will have a few lulls in the future though to perhaps buy in cheaper. looks very interesting, checked out their website a bit; will research further this week. certainly they look to be at that juncture of "turning from red ink to black" i know you like to look for, as well as having good growth potential (and some measure of safety, due to their large backlog).

RVNM - time to liquidate all the cuddlebugs!!!! heh, too funny. too bad you can't short an OTC stock, would have shorted that and OCRI and a bunch of other turkeys and been rich by now.

some of these dumpoffs yesterday, have trouble understanding.

why would someone sell RIMS at .67, or OISI at .72, or TMFZ at 2.60, as happened yesterday? giving up and dumping at those points strikes me as odd - is saying none of those companies are worth 5-6 times last year's earnings, despite their good balance sheets. especially OISI is strange - why would anyone dump at .67 on a .67x1.15 spread? eh i dunno, maybe i'm just too stubborn. i refuse to sell my small positions in RIMS and TMFZ at these cheap prices, and if someone wants to sell their OISI at the bid on a huge spread, i'm a buyer. PDGE, don't understand either why people gave up and sold at 1.33. maybe i'll regret my stubborness in the end, but - eh, we'll see.

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

MKRS, maybe will drop back to the teens, can't decide which way it wants to go.

bought a little ITEX at .33 today, looks cheap at that price to me. am being "cheap" with CXTI, just missed it at .91.

ok, back to my ham+cheese. out of mayo, just that lowfat stuff, yech!!! drats

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

added a little NXG at 1.37. as boring as they come, but - they've had a lot of pretty good news lately, had a good last year. also like the chart, would be surprised if fell through 1.30. chances look good to me that it'll go up 15% from 1.37 before it goes down 15%. i believe they are trading at the lowest multiple of any copper/gold producer out there, P/E under 9.

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

CXTI, so typical - they release guidance of $2.5M profits this Q, and - they spike a bit, then promptly close below the open. just plain broken, how many companies can you find with revs and profits rising this quickly Q over Q?

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/is?s=CXTI.OB

but - they just won't move. will always be a buyer at .91 and a seller at 1.05, but for whatever reason, unless it "pulls an EZEN" and slumbers for along time and finally awakens, then no sense going long on it. be it justified or not, people just don't seem to trust chinese stocks.

MKRS sat at .20x.24 for awhile but of course my bid at .21 never got filled and it closed at .30, heh. still, i like the odds to buy it at .23 over the next month or two, we'll see.

HOM edged up a bit on guidance of .14-.18 '05 EPS, we'll see if can hold it.

OISI +40% bounce today.

VFIN not looking pretty, have a little and would add a little more at .27-.28.

WIRX just missed my 2.65 order a few days ago, *sigh*

BOGN is the only pink i own, but might add another block if can get at 4.50.

watching ADGO, thought it might dip to low-1.30's but seems to be finding some support around 1.40. anyone know anything about adams clubs? i like golf but, uh, i use 20-year old ones with duct tape to hold the heads on.

Queen Bee, i see your KPCG was busy today! noted without comment, a quote from their PR today:

"Through an integrated marketing program, KPC will increase awareness, distribution and sales of Zestra(TM), QualiLife Pharmaceuticals' non-prescription "Feminine Arousal Fluid" ".

http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/050406/65511.html?.v=1

it is of course tempting to quip a bit here, but - much like how i know better than to try to irritate my wife, i will pass. my wife refers to it as "putting your head in the tiger's mouth", when she is irked already and i quip or prod a bit too much. far be it from me.

RVNM, only 2 ticks left.

i bet the unfortunate people who "invested" in RVNM at $15 (!!!) in 2001 are not too thrilled about Gina D and Mr. Pockets.

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=RVNM.OB&t=5y&l=on&z=m&q=l&c=

a $15,000 investment now worth exactly: thirty cents. ouch!!! ok, that neglects splits, so maybe call it: $3, instead of 30 cents. far be it from me to "put my head in the tigers mouth" and upset the fine management of RVNM with a misstatement of facts.

RVNM, could have doubled your money in a day: bought at .0002 yesterday, sold at .0004 today. see, i told all you people you should buy RVNM! heh. i am almost tempted to buy $100 worth at .0001, just in the hopes could dump at .0002 and then forever annoy you that i doubled my $ with the fine stock that is RVNM, PG; heh heh heh

pretty slim pickens today, mainly watching NXG, VFIN and EDV.TO, all look pretty cheap to me.

nice day for CTON, relatively large volume. am going to hold awhile and see where it goes.

MKRS dipping a bit, would add a little at .25.

no one will sell me ATVE at .12 anymore, drats.

GMAI a little bottoming action, surprised dumped below 9.50.

JMIH asleep. fine with me, i can be patient.

MDF watching, would add at 2.05 or so

WEGI took off a bit today before i could get in for a little, oh well. high-risk though, but interesting.

i probably own too many stocks in too small amounts, but - can't help it, i like "collecting" and i like the risk mitigation that diversification offers, what can i say. i look at it as almost an 'index fund' of little companies that i like and seem like good risk/reward ratios to me

this week seems like the "10K waiting game" - several am in or following closely are either late already or almost due: ETLT, NMKT, ATVE, RIMS, HQSM, PDGE, etc.. some lateness attributed to legitimate company restructuring/acquisitions and/or new Sarbanes-O regulations, so not particularly worried, but - let's get these 10Ks in!!

PDGE should be interesting - should be a good Q, but now they're taxed.

ETLT should be good, but - comparisons to previous year should not be great, due to larger number of shares issued to purchase e-sea (and no e-sea profits yet on the books). while i hate dilution, in the case of e-sea, strikes me as worth it. we'll see

CYDS
CYRO
DFNS
EENT (appears headed up on high fuel prices)

APES (NO VOLUME)

Your VFIN remains of high interest.

EAG, red ink with high losses, is dipping down
in anticipation of a Monday 10-Q release. I do
NOT expect a good 10-Q but might be surprised.
Nonetheless, this one "might" be good for a

most likely in / out in a single day.

a week or two.

IESV is a black ink profitable company representing
a low risk investment for this bad financial year.
They have a core engineering group which does well.

CYDS, am watching with much chagrin - i only ever got 2k shares awhile back, after i brought it up in this thread. i was too cheap with my limit buy price i guess, seemed like there was no hurry because it flatlined all year long. *sigh*. same thing happened with NPTI, and GACF the last few weeks - thought i get cheaper but they ran, oh well.

CYRO, have been watching too, looking for signs of bottoming. seems like a pretty good risk/reward curve to me from here, looks to be stabilizing a bit.

DFNS, EENT, will look into these over the weekend. EAG, same.

IAIC, watching - bid dropped to .42, i'd buy a little if could get for .42.

APES, maybe i am being quirky or strange, but - their last PR bugged me, it's off my interest list. i admit it might be oversold now, but - eh i dunno, i don't see why the CEO of such a small company deserves close to half a million a year in compensation. i don't see any reason to believe he won't simply vacuum the bulk of the profits out of the company again, like he did this year.

heh, you know you don't need to mention IESV to me PG! have been sitting at .095 all week

NMKT, still holding half, and will continue to hold long. i just think it's going to hit $1 again sometime, though might be 3 months, might be 2 years. might jump in for the other half for swing trades, just watching for now.

VFIN am tempted to add another half at .26, but - will watch awhile, shows no sign of bouncing yet. surprised dipped this low. NXG - same thing, can't believe it's this low.

sat on .25 all day for MKRS, no fill though; guess i picked the wrong block size

AOBO limit sell finally triggered today. maybe i'm wrong, but - my bet - they will slowly drop back down.

TMED, sitting at .58 for awhile and close but - still no fill. strikes me that risk outweights reward from .58; looking at the chart, a pretty stable bottom for awhile now.

tempted by UMCI at .05, but - i dunno, can't quite pull the trigger; but would go in at .04.

HOM, still hold a little core, and raised my limit buy price for swing-trades to 1.55. don't think their guidance and 10k were enough to propel them up for good, but - i think it was enough that i feel comfortable moving my limit for swing trades up a bit.

am i the only one chicken enough that does this? in a lot of my threads, i talk about "halves" - not only do i probably overdiversify, but i also tend to buy only half of what i want at a time. it it keeps dropping, i buy the other half. if it keeps going, sometimes i buy the other half, sometimes i just let the first half go. dunno if it's good or bad, probably bad, but - guess i'm a chicken and a hedger at heart. ALMI was kind of usual last year, broke my diversification rule and went in for eight halves, heh

my wife's 401k switched over to fidelity recently and i was filling out the percentage allowances for each fund, and - same thing, i came up with the first list and it was spread between 18 funds. that is probabably way too many, i really struggled to bring it down to 14, which is probably still way too many.

i guess i'm kind of a chicken, half-at-a-time buying, overdiversifying hedger at heart!

Purl, am reading through this CYRO 10K early this saturday am, before my kids wake up:

http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/20232/000002023205000021/k20041.htm

a few things that strike me, in no particular order:

* they are bigger than i realized - 92 employees in a 47,000 sq foot building. that is a pretty big building!

* finances a little complex - some debenture retirements, some restructing

* nice customer list - most of the "big boys" like the major networks, looks like expanding somewhat overseas

* they talk about if networks would switch over to a digital format faster (ie HD), it would help them, but - am not quite sure how. from the 10K:

"The transition from analog to digital signals in the video and audio world has created a range of additional means to deliver video and audio content to the consumer, as well as innovations in storage and management of video and audio assets."

"Conversion to a digital standard in the U.S., and similar standards internationally, will produce an opportunity to appropriately positioned companies involved in the broadcast industry and related business; however, this change has caused uncertainty, hesitation and indecision for broadcasters and other customers in their decisions on capital spending. The delay in capital spending by broadcasters has affected the level of our sales. The method and timing of broadcasters' conversion to digital television is very important to our future operating results."

* dilution doesn't seem to be a concern, only about 2% dilution a year, historically

* looks like they tried to focus on their debts last year: took about $4M in assets to retire debt

* i like their high margin, but costs have definitely eaten into their profit - earned about .01 a share last year. SG+A up about 24% over last year. .01 a share profit is not huge, but - definitely a turnaround from previous years

* i like that they've migrated from a proprietary closed system to an open windows-based structure with OTS components, should help costs in the future, one would think

* looks like they are trying to expand their product line, though remains to be seen how successful:

- "Chyron has recently entered the digital signage market with its ChyTV display system, catering to a non-broadcast market segment. Our entrance into this niche is based on research results indicating that there is an increasing market for these products among customers such as hospitals and medical offices, educational institutions, government facilities, independent and franchised restaurants/sports bars, car dealerships, etc."

anyway - an interesting company. they definitely seem to fall in that range i know you like, of seemingly transitioning from red to black ink. still fairly high P/E based on .01/sh profit last year, but - 2005 should be interesting for them.

some questions/concerns i have about them are:

* in general, because Peter Lynch is my "other" mentor, i'm somewhat generally initially averse to buying technology companies. i usually prefer to buy the companies that benefit *from technology* and cheaper and more powerful pc's, because margins always seem to shrink in the technology field, as competitors come in. but - in this case, CYRO does seem to have an "edge" on competitors.

* i wonder about their market and growth prospects. it would seem like networks are their main customers, and many of the big studios like that do the "abc evening news" national edition likely already have CYRO products. i assume they are expecting future growth to come from smaller networks, ie hoping the local detroit ABC affiliate here might buy some of their products? in looking at their website, looks like their "Duet" system was widely used in big events like the super bowl etc., but - would a relatively small affiliate like, say, ABC in lansing, be interested in the duet? or is that just for the "big" stuff like the super bowl and ncaa tourney (in which case there would be limited market)? how much does a duet cost, might answer some of this question.

anyway, i guardedly like CYRO, but - admit i have some concerns about them, i might hold off a bit more and research some more. but - maybe you can convince me otherwise, what have i overlooked, what main things did you like about them, Purl?

this has nothing to do with penny stocks, but - will blab on about it anyway.

it is surprising and disappointing to me that many people i know fail to contribute to their 401k at work. just yesterday, a young guy i know at work was filling out paperwork for the new 401k plan (the company where i work was just bought out by a larger company, so we had to switch plans), and was going to skip the 401k plan. i blocked the entrance to his office and told him that i would not move until he *at least* contributed enough to get the company match.

same thing, just last weekend i had a buddy of mine over to watch the final 4 games and for a few beers, and he was contemplating how long to stay at his current job and i asked him about the benefits. he admitted he wasn't invested in the 401k plan. this buddy is not that well off at all, i generally foot the bill for him 3 or 4 football saturdays in the fall down in ann arbor at michigan stadium. i told him that unless he signed up for his 401k plan at work to *at least* get the free company match, i wasn't going to take him to any UofM games this fall with my 4 season tix. which got his attention big-time, fall football saturdays in ann arbor are not something one wants to miss: not just the games, but tailgating from 8am-8pm with brats on the grill and beer and pancakes for breakfast and friends tossing the football all day and watching the other games on our portable satellite tv setup is a lot of fun. i trust he will sign up for the 401k, he looked extremely worried when i warned of revoking his fall saturday priveleges.

my neighbor, she is a single lady pushing 70, i heard her drive out at 6am today. we chat frequently, and one time of her own accord she expressed to me "make sure you save for retirement. i wish i had, otherwise i wouldn't be getting up at 5am on weekends to go to work and working 7 days a week".

most galling, was at the local hiller's market here in plymouth last week, and some poor 65-ish guy was pushing around shopping carts with a big yellow vest that said on the back "junior customer assistant". it really pissed me off to see that, wanted to go tell the manager that it wasn't right to make some poor 65-year old guy wear such a stupid vest, but i had both kids with me at the time and didn't want to make a scene, and i suppose it wasn't my place to comment on that anyway. i imagine the poor guy in the vest wishes he would have saved more for retirement, when he was younger.

anyway, i am not a preachy person, but in this case i will make an exception. any of you young people out there reading this: *make sure to save for your retirement!* any funds for penny stocks should come *after* you have already made your 401k or ira contributions! i am *hardly* rich, heck - people who read my posts know that i drive an '89 car and use a set of crummy golf clubs held together with duct tape, and i even clip grocery coupons. but - i still make sure to save for retirement, everyone should; income level is irrelevant.

sorry, end of sermon, i will shut up about this now.

DFNS is interesting. fairly mild profits, ok balance sheet, a few new orders PR'ed for $2.2M, which is roughly 2-3 months of revenue for them. not sure if the new orders are an "unusual" event, or - typical orders for them.
obviously a big key is that they just acquired owen mills. tried to research owen mills, to see if the acquisition would be accretive to earnings, but - can't find much info on the company. found their website (could use some updating with better pictures and info, has a bit of a late-90's feel) - but couldn't come up with much company info in my googling. were they previously a private company? the DFNS webpage talks about buying all their oustanding stock, but - i can't find their symbol. huh - am i just being dense because it's early and i'm only on my first cup of coffee? anything in particular strike you about DFNS, Purl?

NRCNA - northland cranberry - is very interesting but - i admit i am really struggling to try to understand them. just so complicated, between the ocean spray deal and the apple and eve deal.

it's clear that they are selling off chunks of the company. honestly though, i can't tell just how much of the company, and if they are getting a good or a bad deal.

selling "branded juice business" for 10.8 million (which is about 1/3 of their market cap, btw) -

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050222/cgtu027_1.html

but still selling concentrate.

then again, they sold a lot to ocean spray already

(source: http://biz.yahoo.com/e/050329/nrcna.ob8-k.html:)

"On September 23, 2004, Northland Cranberries, Inc., a Wisconsin corporation (the "Company"), entered into agreements with Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. ("Ocean Spray") pursuant to which the Company sold its processing plant, storage facility and certain offices located in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin to Ocean Spray."

strikes me that this a real case of "market inefficiency", probably the market is mighty confused about how to properly price NRCNA. however, i have no idea either!! could be either greatly underpriced or greatly overpriced. is northland mostly just an empty shell now, or will be they relatively cash-rich now and still pulling in profits? can't tell yet, will keep reading. if anyone has any insights, by all means...clue me in here

PDGE, very nice 10K today. .18 profit on the year, with 6-9 months of built-up backlog. sold 1/3 at 1.67, holding the other 2/3 long though. only reason i sold any was - am trying to raise yet more cash in case ALMI keeps dipping to the low .90's.

thank you to whoever sold me my other half of TMFZ back at 2.50 today.

also couldn't resist taking a small position in WLDA today

RTWI looks appealing to me - 55M market cap, 40M in cash on the books. income tax 1-time benefit in the last Q knocked P/E out of whack, but - still think it will be 10-15 range.

these ALMI dips to low-.90's, very interesting. i am thinking i need to do a rollover of a 401k from a few jobs back that i still have, where i only worked a few years there: want to have some more funds to take advantage of these dips. will leave most of my 401k in "regular" funds, but - really makes me want to put a fair amount in, when i see ALMI dipping like this

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

"bargain-hunting day" - seeing a lot more red than green in my watchlist. so far added IESV at .092 and a little ALMI at .95, and bought my 1/3 of PDGE back at 1.50.

also sitting on the bid for NWD at .78, ATVE at .125, and more ALMI at .92.

wow, what happened to WTEK today? big crash. looks appealing to me from .38, i like teeny-float plays, barely $2M market cap. their last Q was a little disappointing, but from these levels i'll take a chance on a little; have been profitable with slightly erratic though generally rising revenues. need to do some more research, but - definitely looks interesting. i don't see any filings to support today's drop.

these sudden dips like WTEK today and OISI last week, hard to figure. many of them i am convinced are simply someone making the mistake of dumping a "market order" sell on the market of a lot of shares all at once. some of course may be true "trouble signs" though.

definitely a risk buying on these sudden 30% drops. but - as long as i like the company, am generally willing to see if it was just a market sell (that perhaps triggered some other panic selling) and that the stock will rebound, at least with a small amount.

PDGE, very strange - can't believe it dumped to 1.50 today, after a very good report yesterday. rebounded in the afternoon, but - still, the swings of PDGE; i have serious trouble figuring out.

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

reading through the latest 10Q of WTEK, i don't see any cause for major concern. not as pristine a balance sheet as i normally look for: in this case the market cap is 2.1M, enterprise value 2.6M. revs generally increasing Y over Y: 5.1M, 5.5M, 6.5M the last 3 years. not spectacular, but - a little growth. trailing P/E under 7, my guess is forward P/E is perhaps conservatively 8-10, since they had a good Q3 last year i'm not sure they can repeat. hard to say though, pure speculation. backlog about $2.5M, not bad. would like to see a little higher profit margin. pretty high insider ownership which i like, figuring that is a good incentive for them to want to do well. float looks to be under $1M, mighty tiny.

website is here -

http://www.intl-baler.com/

on a down note, surprising how many companies seem to make these balers, here is a list -

http://recycling.tradeworlds.com/web_category_5281.html

i dunno, anyone with any thoughts on this one? am thinking, on balance weighing the pros and cons, .40-range looks good to buy a little, but - am happy to listen to any other viewpoints. anyone?

can't find much info on this one on the web - pretty much zero message board discussion on it that i can find.

not surprisingly, WTEK bounce today - back to .45x.51 spread.

tempted to sell NMKT given it's history of falling back, but - am going to tempt fate and hold; been pretty bullish lately.

ALMI, i wonder if the "game is up", and there won't be these silly dips to .90. more stable today, but - dunno, hard to tell.

even though it's fundamentals are a mess, tried and just missed BIPH this am at 2.45. dunno if i'd want to hold it long, but - my bet it has at least one more run past $3 in it - purely a swing play.

watching COVR drop, starting to look of interest.

EYDY, still trying .24 but never any luck.

what is up with SSTR? big runup today!

TMED continues it's repeated bounced off of .61-ish support.

CYDS very strong, all the way up to .47x.49. still kicking myself for not going bigger into this one, d'oh!! ouch. i hope you got some last week, Purl

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

lid just blew off CYDS - .51x.60, .56 high. put my measly 2k up at .60, just in case. can't believe i blew this one by not buying more, almost as painful as my GEOI misplay. ouch!!

Posted by blue_in_MI on :

well, what to make of CYDS's day. .58 close, up over 41% on the day on ~20x normal volume. no filings or news today.

a big investor deciding to invest a bunch in Cygne?

good news of the upcoming report leaked out?

one of those annoying pump-N-dump groups giving it a one-day ride?

pure random fluctuation in the quantum-foam, that developed into a snowball effect as momentum riders and daytraders piled on?

some combination thereof?

dunno.

mighty interesting though. and painful, i should have bought a minimum of 10k shares the day i came across it. back on 3/14 in this thread, posted my immediate reaction to it:

"how many companies do you know of that are trading at 47% of book and 12% of sales, have a trailing PE of 5, and so much cash that their enterprise value is a measly 870k? enterprise value 3% of revenue, heh."

was ridiculous, should have paid the ask then and there, d'oh!! eh, oh well, live and learn. murphy's law i guess: sits there flat for a year doing diddlysquat, so i can barely dip a toe into it until it doubles. hope you ended up getting at least a little before the run, PG

Blue, I cannot figure out what is going on with
CYDS stock. It is a good company, I have suggested
it to others, but previously, volume has been zero.

Now, wham! Up it goes for no apparent reason.

We should start discussing a worthless stock, such
as Raven Moon and discover if people start buying!

Your comment about "pump and dump" is of great
concern to me. I don't like that activity, at all.
That might be, and is most likely, the reason.

CYDS is a decent company. I hope those crooks out
there don't ruin it via "pump and dump" or via
naked shorting. Could be the share price is being
pumped up in anticipation of initiating a short
position death spiral.

I should not be so suspicious, so pessimistic,
but with Wall Street and the SEC being run by
La Costra Nostra....

Say, isn't the Garment Industry owned by the mob?

I am sure, Blue, you noticed very nice buy prices
today. I am so turned off by economic conditions,
the only buy I was will to make was IESV at .09
per share at market open.

Well, I did ace you out on your .0171 CLSI buys.
I bought some at .0175 just to annoy you.

Stocks you suggested, stocks I suggested, Glassman,
Keithsan stocks, others, prices appear really good
buys today, but I am fearful we are seeing the
beginning of a serious market downturn.

CYDS, i just - dunno. always has a volume of almost nil, then suddenly - bam! a rocket today. i don't follow all the boards so i don't know if one of them picked it as a "pump" or not, but - would be an odd one to pick, just such an obscure and quiet company. was clearly ridiculously oversold at .29, but - normally there is some impetus to drive it a stock up on big volume. very strange.

just one of a lot of wild swings have been tracking lately, though this one of much larger volume than OISI, WTEK, and some of the others. some of the quick 30% dumps then bounces like WTEK and OISI lately i am thinking there was a high probability of someone just dumping a lot of shares with a market instead of limit order, but - that is speculation.

definitely a lot of appealing prices today. but you're right - markets very iffy, seeing a lot more red than green on the ticker these days. oil worries have eased a bit, but that has just made room for other worries, apparently.

have been watching USNU, hoping the 10K would be good. finally came out yesterday, and - unfortunately the 4Q results were disappointing.

http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1089815/000116923205002089/d63335_10-k.htm

lost about $100K in Q4, to drop their profit for the year down to $123K (and push their trailing P/E up from about 6 to 12).

drats, was hoping this one would be a buy, their gamma knife technology is pretty interesting, and i like their teeny float - only about $700K in the float.

will keep on the backburner and check periodically, still a very interesting little company

ouch, another ugly day for the markets. sold IDIB and CYDS, added a little ALMI at .88 and NXG at 1.16, prices i never thought i'd see again. afraid to add anything else though, even though lots of good buy prices. sure a lot of red on my ticker today!

Posted by Purl Gurl on :

Blue, I bought a bunch more ALMI at .89 per.

Bought a bunch of IESV at .09 per.

Buyers are moving in like vultures this afternoon.

HOM, MKRS, ROBE, IESV and VFIN are all at very
attractive prices.

"Defensive Trading" is the keyword for now.

CYDS, what the hell is up with this one? a normal daily dollar volume up until 2 days ago was - $3000, seriously. today: 545,935 shares traded hands! between today and yesterday, close to $400,000 traded, that is about 60x the normal daily dollar volume! on no news. one of the weirder things have come across in the market, just doesn't make any sense.
