Once Protokinetix gets moving and(IMHO)we(PKTX)are on the edge of doing just that..Contract signing, revenue flowing back to the company, breaking the zone between cosmetics(exterior) and go to internal medicine...Protokinetix has done major research on blood storage and will(MHO)be a Major Breakthrough for Blood Storage Using AAGP™..Good reading, something for future thoughts..(Old PR News)

PROTOKINETIX INC. (PKTX: OTCBB)
Vancouver, British Columbia, July 10, 2007

ProtoKinetix Inc. (PKTX) announces the results of extensive testing of the storage of blood platelets done by the Etablissement Francais du Sang-Alsace (EFS). This prestigious blood specialty institution is affiliated with the Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg and provides one of the world’s premier research facilities in the field of hematology. The collaborative project was headed up by EFS Director, Professor Jean-Louis Cazanave, one of the leading authorities in hematology.

Currently blood platelets are stored at the high temperature of 22°C. This temperature allows for bacterial contamination which means that after a maximum of 4 ½ - days they have to be discarded. Storage at lower temperatures is extremely desirable but previously impossible because of the activation of the clotting of the platelets.

At the critical temperature of 15°C, blood platelets treated with AAGP™ were stored for 21-days with no clotting or coagulation. The untreated control group of platelets had massively aggregated (clotted) by approximately 80%. These findings indicate that blood platelets treated with AAGP™ may be able to be stored at refrigeration temperatures having a useful shelf life of 28-days.

Blood platelets are one of the most critical blood products vital for the treatment of all trauma victims to arrest the bleeding. The ability to now provide an adequate supply of platelets for battlefields and emergency medical technicians will dramatically improve the survivability of critical wounds.
