Anyone like this here?
I have 4k from 1.18... I think this will eventually turn and run big again..

Everything I look at with them is great except they screwed up the books and messed up earnings etc, so they will restate financials and get back on their feet. There are outstanding orders totaling over 1Billion for vehicles not to mention service from this company.

P/E is around 3
Market cap about 130 Mill here.

Conference call indicated at least 500 mill in revenue for 2008 alone. Undervalued?

Also participating in bid for their CHEETAH vehicle to replace all humvees as new JLTV!

Recently they received delisting notice, but so did NAVZ.pk and look at their share price (they do basically the same thing).

Just trying to think out loud and see what you guys think. Thanks. [BadOne]

They have some lawsuits from shareholders who lost money from $33 or $44 a share I think if you check the news you should see it I was about to buy some at $2.44 then the news of the lawsuit hit right before I hit the place order button on etrade luckily I noticed [Smile]

Filing a shareholder class action lawsuit is routine. Winning a shareholder lawsuit is almost impossible. SEC and courts will not permit a shareholder lawsuit to proceed if the security in question (FRPT)is on the NASDAQ SHO list for the second time in less then 6 month and over 160 days in the last year! A company has no control if their securities are being used in a unintended manner. Naked shorts are not all illegal. But their effect on a security is a defense for lost shareholder value.

In addition, FRPT and their products may have been adversely affected by unlawful procurement practices. That is easy to document with a Senate investigation underway by Joe Biden and Ted Keneddy. People are under witness protection and a key figure in the events was recently removed from their position.

Maybe not all of these picks will pan out, but each one is a good place to start further research. I decided to take a look at Force Protection.

From rags to riches and back
The story of Force Protection is tabloid material if I've ever seen it. Just back in January of 2007, the stock rose from the obscurity of the pink sheets to the far more prestigious Nasdaq. At the time, the company was leading the charge in outfitting vehicles for the military that could withstand the roadside explosives that have been so devastating in the Iraq war.

With its business success and shiny new Nasdaq listing came a tremendous run for the stock. Between early 2006 and mid-2007, the stock rose a jaw-dropping 3,000% as orders for vehicles rolled in and the company started turning a profit.

Alas, it wasn't to last. Competitors like Ceradyne and General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), with their eyes on fat defense contracts, soon began to give Force Protection a run for its money with competing products. And as if that weren't enough, the company stacked accounting problems and a fleeing management team on top of that.

Today, Force Protection is a shadow of what it was at its peak. It's behind on its financial reporting and receiving delisting notices. It's a pincushion for shareholder lawsuits. And it's trading at a mere $3 per share. Sure, its forward P/E multiple may be listed at under five, but it's clear that most investors are highly doubtful that it will be able to post the $0.72 that analysts expect in 2008.

But many investors on CAPS are looking past all of this. One such investor is costanostra, who gave Force Protection's stock the nod last week. He thinks the market has overblown the situation with management:

Force Protection has come under flack recently (no pun intended) due to some issues with management and various class action lawsuits. They've been criticized in the U.S. but it seems that overseas they are doing well. I would like to see some more contracts from this joint venture in the United Kingdom and possibly in China as they increase military spending. There will be strong demand for armored combat vehicles for years to come. I think management has an opportunity to turn this stock around.

So, what's your take on Force Protection? Get in the action by clicking over to CAPS. CAPS is absolutely free and already has over 96,000 stock pickers chipping in to find the best stocks out there.

Field Mechanic: This is My Job

By Chris Dixon

Published in the May 2008 issue.

Chris Mieras
Ladson, S.C.
Years on Job: 5

Nearly 60 percent of U.S. deaths in Iraq are caused by roadside bombs, which makes Chris Mieras’s goal pretty simple: Keep people alive. As a field mechanic for Force Protection, a military contractor, he has spent two years in Iraq doing maintenance and troop training for IED- and mine-clearing vehicles called Buffaloes. His damage reports have led to improvements in the machinery—with impressive results. Since 2004, the 180 or so Buffaloes in Iraq have withstood a large number of attacks, with just three fatalities. While shifting budgets have left the future uncertain for the $750,000 vehicles, the 39-year-old Mieras will return to Iraq for a third year in April. “These trucks take blasts that amaze me,” he says. “And the soldiers live to tell the stories.”

The whole market cap of the company is around $200 million. They just got another $91 million on top of the $1 billion or so previous to this. I've never seen a company this undervalued. All over a couple of very frivolous lawsuits. So sad. Stock was over $30 a few months ago without all the orders. This one goes much higher.

The Fuel to Propel Force Protection Higher
by: William Velmer posted on: May 05, 2008
| about stocks: FRPT

Force Protection, Inc. (FRPT) ($3.59) primarily produces MRAP vehicles - mine protected ambush resistant vehicles - which are used to protect our troops from IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) used in Iraq and Afghanistan by the insurgents.

The company's balance sheet is clean, with around $70 million in cash and no debt. Fully diluted, there appear to be around 69 million shares outstanding. As of April 10th 2008, it appears that there are around 9 million shares short. This is potentially huge explosive fuel to propel FRPT higher than anticipated once the company gets all of it "ducks" in order.

It is our opinion that this company got into trouble because of rocketing growth that could not be handled by past management. According to MilitaryIndustrialComplex.com, FRPT has received contracts from October 2006 to May 2008 totaling over $2.2 billion for their MRAP vehicles and support and parts.

Resulting from a management re-shuffle, lawsuits by cry baby investors and late financial filings, FRPT's share price has suffered from a 52 week high of $31.00 to a recent low of $1.00. FRPT has had to survive its own chaos. Even though the share price has formed a huge crater within the pockets of bleary eyed investors, the contracts from around the world keep rolling in and yielding a backlog of over $1 billion, according to our calculations.

We believe that business will keep coming in, not only from the DOD but from other allies around the world that see the need to address this cowardly form of combat. It appears from a recent document that the Canadian government is ready to commit $60 million to purchase some MRAPs; visit here and see the mention of Cougar/Buffalo vehicles, which are two of the vehicles that FRPT produces. As recently as May 1, 2008, the company announced a contract with the UK for $94 million. The Italians, Canadians and English are only a few of the potential customers that want these vehicles. As of May 2nd, President Bush has introduced a bill for $70 billion for defense funding--$3 billion is to deal with roadside bombs and $2.6 billion to airlift "new" mine resistant vehicles into the war zones.

All roads lead to huge revenue and profits. The investor must first deal with current uncertain paths before the bank entrance is reached. The new auditor has been named - it just is unknown at this time when the 2007 10K and now 2008 10Q for Q1 will be released. Many investors cannot handle the "heat" and will sit on the roadside while things get sorted out--we prefer the more aggressive path to riches, which is to hop on the caravan early instead of late.

At present, the BK stated from the September 30, 2007 9-month 10Q equaled $3.57; the cash/sh was around $1.00/share; revenue was $441 million; and net income/sh equaled .34. From that point on, the numbers are unknown, but most believe that revenue reached $700+ million for 2007 and that estimated revenue for 2008 will be around $1 billion. These numbers result from the recent conference call and contracts being announced and contracts seen here.

Bottom line: The balance sheet look great; we have a huge backlog; defense spending in a growth mode around the world; if we enter a recession this business is not affected; large short position that adds bullish fuel for corporate positives; unloved; uncertain financial results; most likely a takeover candidate (General Dynamic (GD) could eat them for lunch) before or after financial filings brought up to current status; and just plain cheap based upon potential estimated PE, PSR CF/sh and EBITDA.

We rate FRPT with a strong but speculative buy recommendation at current levels. Start building a position, but don't blow all your powder at once - scale into this unloved gem.

Posted by Jo4321 on :

Sadly, the rally's done been killed.... after hours already down to $3.60 (down .43 from close/ .75 off the high)

Here's the lastest:------------------------------------------------

Force Protection, Inc. (“Force Protection”, the “Company”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) has determined that it is unable to file its Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q for the quarterly period ended March 31, 2008 by the prescribed due date. As previously reported, we require additional time to complete our evaluation of our internal controls over financial reporting and preparation of the consolidated financial statements for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2007.

We intend to file our Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2007 and Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q for the quarterly period ended March 31, 2008 with the SEC promptly upon the completion of the audit of the consolidated financial statements for the year ended 2007.

We previously reported that we have also determined that our previously filed interim financial statements for the three and nine month periods ended September 30, 2007 and all public communications of such consolidated financial statements should no longer be relied upon because those consolidated financial statements contain material misstatements. Accordingly, we plan to restate our historical financial statements for the quarterly period ended September 30, 2007.

We are working as expeditiously as possible to finalize the consolidated financial statements for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2007, the quarterly period ended March 31, 2008 and to file amendments to our previously filed Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q for the quarterly period ended September 30, 2007. While the lack of an audit firm has slowed our progress, we resolved that contributing factor on April 10, 2008, when we engaged Grant Thornton LLP as our independent registered public accounting firm for the fiscal years ended December 31, 2007 and ending December 31, 2008

Big deal, its temporary. It doesn't change the story of the company, or the BILLIONS in contracts. A delay, is only a delay.

Posted by invester on :

They fired and hired and auditor. That will obviously delay anything. They may have to restate a few items. That doesn't change the contracts. There making a ton of money, and the stock price does not reflect it. To sell in the $3 range is complete nonsense. Do the numbers on the stock. It’s trading at 1/10th the earnings. I see a 1000% run in this at least over the next 3-6 months.

Posted by juice on :

INVESTER-way to go selling out of the position today over 4 before that hit haha! and those DEC calls are looking SWEET btw.

anyway, not worried one bit, invester is right, doesn't change the story, this was generally already known and priced in imo. mm's brought it down on weak ass volume AH, nothing to worry about. We will be right back over 4 soon again. I've watched this stock for 4 months now, its all about manipulating the share price to short (like all day today) and cover (tomorrow).

don't fall for it! imagine all those people who sold for a loss under 2! yuck! well GL everyone!!!

nope, take a breath, frpt has been coming back strong. they are restating all 2007 and 2008 1st qtr. company and revenue grew out of control in 2007 and since frpt was poorly managed they screwed it all up and got out of the picture. today was nothing but a reiteration of the delay.

I look at it like we're starting all over. except we now have a billion in trailing rev for 2008 plus over 300M in new contracts rewarded to FRPT so far this year, and some contract work expired eoy 2009. this company is so not dead! [Big Grin]

FPI may have a great shot here...according to the DOD, the new model selected will be to replace about 200,000 humvees, thats serious $$$, est over 100BILLION. BUT they most likely will not chose only one model, so that means at least 2 contendors to win the bid. I think FPI and our Cheetah has a great shot!

Will the Army Buy a $70 Billion Ferrari?
By Rich Smith May 14, 2008

Recommendations

The $70 billion contest to replace our Humvees just got a whole lot more interesting.

In past columns, I've outlined the major players bidding on the military's "JLTV" contract, and to be honest, it reads like a who's-who list of the nation's best and brightest defense contractors:

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) partnered with Armor Holdings
BAE with Navistar
Boeing (NYSE: BA) with Textron (NYSE: TXT)
General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) with AM General
Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) and Oshkosh
But as of this week, we can add a "who's that" player to the list of who's-whos: Finmeccanica. On Tuesday, the Italian defense and aerospace giant announced it will bid $5.2 billion to acquire U.S. military electronics specialist DRS Technologies (NYSE: DRS). As you've probably heard by now, DRS has partnered with Force Protection (Nasdaq: FRPT) to form the sixth big-name bidder on JLTV. Meaning that, by extension, Finmeccanica is now in the race as well.

Buy the numbers
The details go as follows: Finmeccanica has signed a definitive merger agreement to pay $81 per DRS stub. While that sounds final, DRS shareholders still have to approve the offer of a 32% premium to their pre-merger average 30-day share price. (Quoth the shareholder: "Ooh. Twist my arm.") Plus, as DRS is a sensitive defense sector firm, U.S. regulators will take a close look at the merger (before saying "yeah, sure," as they have in similar past acquisitions, such as BAE's purchase of Armor Holdings).

Finmeccanica will ante up $4 billion cash and also assume $1.2 billion in DRS debt. Backing out the debt portion of the offer and focusing on the price-to-sales ratio for the stock, the Italians' offers suggests a price-to-sales ratio of 1.3 for DRS. That's a bit of a premium to the usual defense contractor valuation of about 1-times sales, but perhaps justified. Analysts expect DRS to grow at nearly 13% per year over the next half decade, or about one point ahead of Lockheed, and three points faster than General Dynamics. Incidentally, General D also sells for 1.3 times sales, so you could argue that Finmeccanica is getting a good deal here.

With one caveat: Fair prices tend to attract bidding wars, and this one may be no exception. In recent comments, Euro-defense rival EADS confirmed that DRS was "on our target list, we are monitoring the situation, no decision has been taken." EADS downplayed the likelihood that it will make a counteroffer, however, calling DRS "not today a priority." Stay tuned, and we'll let you know if that changes.

Do you like to invest, but love to invest in stuff that makes other stuff go "boom?" Then you'll enjoy reading:

what do you guys think, this is from moody last time---> "We are very aware that there’s a demand for the company to address some of the announced recent events and its strategic direction. We’re going to do our best to address that need in these remarks today and then to answer your questions. It had been our plan to hold this call following the filing of our 2007 Form 10K so that we could speak both to the numbers as well as to our strategic and competitive direction. As you may have seen we continue to be faced with a delay in the completion of our 2007 Form 10K. As a result of that, as I am sure you can appreciate our ability to speak to the numbers is somewhat limited. We will give you what information we can but we’re not in a position to give any additional detail. We will hold another conference call to discuss the financials as soon as we file our 2007 Form 10K."

COULD IT BE the ONE?

someone didn't listen to the CC! haha

for those of you that missed the CC. Heres a quick summary off the top of my head

Moody mentioned long term service and rebuild revenue and capacity for at least 25 Buffalos and least 80 Cougars a month long term.

In regards to cougar servicing, they said is a 2Million dollar serviced vehicle over its lifetime approx 15-20 yrs.

Expressed extreme interest from "uk customer" and negotiating with other countries for vehicles.

JLTV is still 3-4 yrs away, but cheetah "just waiting...."

Cut workforce by 25%.

Shuffling processes in different locations, roxboro, summerville buildings.. sounded like they're all very active.

10Q not ready just yet, but it will be filed.

There was no mention of lawsuits. Not even a question about it! [Smile]

Anyway, imo it was a solid CC. I think we are not too far off from a cheetah order, and it will come first from an intl customer if i had to guess. This has still yet too blow imo. I feel lucky to have gotten a bunch near 1.00 but even at 4 I feel its a bargain. Too much in the works, FPI is here to stay. We have 10Q coming, more contracts, and when we get a cheetah order SEE YA! this has no where to go but up! GL!!

Force Protection cuts work force, plans N.C. move.
03:39 a.m. 05/30/2008 Provided by

May 30, 2008 (The State - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Force Protection has cut its S.C. work force as the company tries to overcome financial problems.

The Ladson-based company has trimmed its number of employees to 1,540 from a peak of about 2,000 late last year, chief executive officer Michael Moody said Thursday.

In addition, the company is moving part of its operation from Summerville to Roxboro, N.C., where it bought a former automotive plant in 2007, Moody said. The number of employees affected has not been determined, said Tommy Pruitt, the company's spokesman.

Both changes are part of an overall evaluation of Force Protection's operations. It comes on the heels of a tumultuous year.

Force Protection rose out of obscurity in 2005 when the Pentagon needed a vehicle that could protect troops from roadside bomb blasts in Iraq. The company's vehicles with their V-shaped hulls and thick armor were the answer, and its stock peaked at nearly $30 a share.

Now, the company has lost part of its military business to larger competitors, undergone a management shake-up, witnessed a sharp decline in its stock value, and failed to file any financial statements with the Securities Exchange Commission since last fall. Nasdaq has threatened to delist Force Protection.

Moody, named CEO in March, announced the changes Thursday during a conference call with investors.

Moody offered a modified financial report but said the company still was not ready to release its 2007 annual report or a first quarter report for 2008. No timetable has been set, he said.

The company's first quarter revenues were $400 million, but half will be paid to General Dynamics, which manufactures vehicles through a partnership with Force Protection, Moody said. In 2007, the company's revenue was $100.2 million.

Moody said the defense contractor has a $410 million backlog of orders that will carry it through the rest of the year. And the company has about $70 million cash.

Force Protection had increased its labor force in 2007 by hiring temporary and contract employees for its production lines, Pruitt said. The company, which had been criticized for delays in completing Pentagon orders, needed extra workers.

Force Protection has achieved most of its reductions by cutting those contract and temporary employees, Pruitt said. A few management positions have been eliminated through attrition, he said.

The defense contractor has reconfigured its production lines at the Ladson plant. It will move its engineers and design team to Summerville from Ladson to join the research and development unit, Moody said.

The corporate headquarters will be relocated somewhere in the Charleston area. A blast test site in Edgefield will remain.

Force Protection also hired another company to manage its spare parts warehouse at another location near Charleston.

As for the move to North Carolina, Force Protection finally will be using a facility it bought in 2007 in anticipation of winning a large military contract to build its Cheetah line of vehicles. However, that order was never placed and the company has been sitting on a vacant site.

In Roxboro, Force Protection will teach soldiers how to operate its Cougar and Buffalo models. Company employees sent overseas to work on vehicles also will be trained there, Pruitt said.

All moves will be complete by the end of 2008, Pruitt said.

Force Protection shares rose 10 cents Thursday to $3.80.

Business Wire "US Press Releases "

LADSON, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Force Protection, Inc. (NASDAQ:FRPT) today announced that on May 29, 2008 it received a notice from the Nasdaq Hearing Panel stating that Force Protection's request for continued listing on The Nasdaq Stock Market was granted, subject to certain conditions. These conditions include that on or before September 15, 2008 Force Protection shall file with the Securities and Exchange Commission its Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2007, the Form 10-Q for the fiscal quarter ended March 31, 2008 and any other required restatements of its financial statements. There can be no assurance that the Company will satisfy the conditions by September 15, 2008. Force Protection appealed the Nasdaq Listing Qualification Staff's previously disclosed determination to delist the company's securities from The Nasdaq Stock Market for failure to comply with Nasdaq Marketplace Rule 4310(c)(14).

Force Protection Chief Executive Officer Michael Moody, commented, "We are very grateful to the members of the NASDAQ hearing panel for their consideration and subsequent decision. With the help of Grant Thornton, we are looking to complete the required restatement and the filing of our SEC documents on or before the deadline."

As previously announced on March 3, 2008, Force Protection expects to restate its previously reported interim consolidated financial statements for the three and nine month periods ended September 30, 2007, as a result of errors discovered by management during its year end review of the accounting for accounts payable errors associated with inventory purchased from a sub-contractor as a result of a contract termination.

On March 3, 2008, Force Protection filed a Form 12b-25 with the Securities and Exchange Commission which explains certain material weaknesses in internal control over financial reporting identified by Force Protection for the year ended December 31, 2007. For further discussion of previously identified material weaknesses refer to Item 9A of the Company's Form 10-K/A for the year ended December 31, 2006 as filed with the SEC on October 15, 2007.

Previously, Force Protection announced that as of April 10, 2008, the Company's Audit Committee had engaged Grant Thornton LLP as the Company's new independent registered public accounting firm for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2007 and the fiscal year ending December 31, 2008 effective immediately.

Fool on Call: Force Protection Projections
By Rich Smith June 2, 2008 Comments (0)

What to do with Force Protection (Nasdaq: FRPT)?

The question's bound to be on shareholders' minds (I know it's on mine) after Friday's 12% jump in price. In slightly more than a year, Force's stock has plunged from a peak price around $30 to within a whisker of a buck. Ouch. Now that it's tripled off of its March bottom, investors have to be wondering whether this is the time to get out before things go bad again.

So? Is it time?
Fair question. After reviewing the situation in my April column "MRAP Madness," I concluded that Force had about equal chances of going broke or coming back strong. For the latter scenario to bear fruit, the company had to get a couple things done: Get its SEC filings done, and land some contracts to shore up its revenue stream.

A month and a half after that column ran, Force Protection provided us an update in a conference call Thursday. So let's see what progress it has made.

Talk is cheap
Force's last conference call, the one that inspired "MRAP Madness," struck me as an exercise in wishful thinking. Force was working on getting its accounting fixed. It expected to land contracts to "remanufacture" Cougar MRAP vehicles for the Marines. It hoped to sell someone (anyone?) its new Cheetah armored vehicle. It intended to compete against everyone from Boeing (NYSE: BA), to Oshkosh (NYSE: OSK), to Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), to Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) for a slot in the Army's JLTV program. Suffice to say, I was less than impressed with the talk -- but willing to give Force some time to deliver on its promises.

And action?
So far, no such luck. The filings still aren't done, and while Grant Thornton is working on the books, management could not say when everything will be squared away. The JLTV contracts haven't yet been awarded (but Force partnered with DRS Technologies (NYSE: DRS) on its bid). Nor do we have any remanufacturing contracts or Cheetah sales.

And yet ... somehow I came away from this call feeling much better about Force than last time around. Why? Management convinced me that it's not the one-trick pony that some analysts have labeled it. This pony has quite a few more tricks stashed in its saddlebags -- enough to make the stock a bargain.

Talk is cheap, but so is the stock
Among the many numbers bandied about last week, two stood out. First, Force expects to generate revenues of $150 million per year servicing vehicles it has already built. (On Friday, it reported winning one such contract from the Marines.) And while the U.S. military seems intent on buying smaller MRAPs from Force's rivals, Force also expects to sell about $100 million a year in mine-clearing Buffalo megaMRAPS.

Of ponies and Cougars
Add just those two numbers, and you've got annual revenue worth $250 million. Now, the going rate for defense-contractor market caps is roughly equal to those contractors' sales, on average. If all Force can muster are the two revenue streams described above, it should sport a market cap of about $250 million. (Note that these are funds coming from Force alone. Management made a point of separating out its own business from that shared with partner General Dynamics (NYSE: GD)).

But those two streams are not all. Unlike the reticent U.S. military, foreign buyers continue to ante up for Force's Cougar MRAP. The company has landed a couple of $100 million-plus contracts in just the first half of this year. While there's no guarantee it will continue to win business at this rate, management "expects" this, and is actively seeking to win more orders from abroad. While it's hard to put a price tag on "expected" Cougar orders, I'm guessing that this revenue stream is worth at least another couple hundred mil in market cap. To my mind, this makes Force perhaps a $450 million company, based on the probable and possible revenue discussed so far.

Wild cards
Now for the wild cards: There's JLTV, of course -- a multibillion-dollar opportunity that Force probably won't win. (But it might.) Force may also be asked to remanufacture some or all of the 3,000-plus MRAPs it has already built. According to management, this is what the Army did with its Abrams tanks after previous conflicts. Once peace broke out, the tanks were pulled from the field, overhauled, and improved to incorporate the latest technology. Force believes something similar will happen with the MRAPs.

Finally, management confided that the slowdown in MRAP orders has allowed it to spend more time on R&D, and that it is back at work developing new technologies. While presumably not as lucrative as building entire vehicles, management's talk of such arcana as bomb-resistant wheels suggests Force Protection possesses potential revenue streams as-yet unguessed. I won't even hazard to guess how much value these wild cards add to the company. But what I can guess at suggests that Force's stock has room to build on its recent triple, and perhaps double again.

That is, assuming it's not all just talk.

Plant near Roxboro revives
Maker of armored cars rethinks plan

Frank Norton, Staff Writer
One of the largest makers of blast-resistant vehicles for the U.S. Marines is rekindling plans for a Person County facility that went cold this year.

Force Protection, based in Ladson, S.C., was supposed to spend $31 million to rebuild an empty automotive plant outside Roxboro and create 270 jobs over the next three years. That's according to the terms of a deal reached last year between the company and state and local economic development officials.

Force Protection has invested $20 million in upgrading the plant, but manufacturing is on hold indefinitely. The company is wrestling with accounting problems, eroding market share and a failure to generate a single order for the blast-resistant Cheetah, which it plans to assemble in Person County.

Last week, CEO Michael Moody said the company trimmed its work force to 1,540 from a peak of about 2,000 late last year.

Moody also announced an overhaul of operations that will shift some work to Roxboro from a facility in Summerville, S.C.

By year's end, Force Protection expects to be teaching military personnel to operate its Cougar and Buffalo blast-resistant vehicles at the Person County site. Mechanics who go overseas to work on vehicles also will receive training there, spokesman Tommy Pruitt said.

The company will hire to fill some of those spots, but it will also give employees from South Carolina a chance to relocate. Pruitt would not say how many workers the facility will need or how many the company would hire. Nor would he say how the shift from manufacturing to training would affect wages.

The company has about 15 workers at the facility near Roxboro. They were hired locally in recent months to help make upgrades. The company's Web site lists only one job opening at the site -- for a spare-parts analyst, with annual pay of $54,000.

Average pay for manufacturing positions at the plant was expected to be $30,276 a year, plus benefits. The average pay for the training positions will be about $50,000, plus benefits, well above the average Person County salary of $28,496, excluding benefits.

All of the jobs created must pay at least $25,121 a year, not including benefits, according to the deal with state economic development officials.

Glen Newsome, director of the Person County Economic Development Commission, said he has assurances from Force Protection that it will meet hiring and investment targets scheduled for the next three years.

"They've kept us in the loop as to what has been going on, and we have no doubt that they will meet their goals," he said.

Newsome said Force Protection has not missed any incentives deadlines.

Iraq, armor and troops

Force Protection's profile rose after it became a supplier to the U.S. military in Iraq in 2005. The company's vehicles have V-shaped hulls and thick armor and are used to protect troops from roadside bomb blasts.

After peaking at more than $30 a share in the summer of 2007, Force Protection stock has plummeted, closing at $4.03 Monday. Competition from larger suppliers and a decision by the Marines to buy a third fewer bomb-resistant vehicles hurt sales. Force Protection also never received the military contract it had anticipated for the Cheetah line that was to be built in Person.

This year, the company delayed filing its 2007 financial report to the Securities Exchange Commission, saying it needed to restate results for the three- and nine-month periods that ended Sept. 30 because of significant accounting errors.

Without timely financial results, the Nasdaq Stock Market had threatened to delist the company.

I bet they get bought by a rival after the turmoil. They are at a measly 200 million market cap. They had over 800 million in 2007 sales. Earnings today, conference call, and then the Marine contract by Oct. 1st. We shall see.

Didn’t get a chance. It’s just an obvious synopsis. Market cap versus revenues. You also have several players in the DoD contract. The military is already using there vehicles. They will make the final cut then get bought, if not before.

Didn't FRPT say in one of their PR's that they've been booted from the JLTV program? It'd make sense then why FRPT is not mentioned as a competitor in any recent article about the program. Somebody tell me I'm wrong.

Posted by invester on :

I didn't see that. Where's the source?

Posted by cspaude on :

Off of ihub, I'll keep looking for the actual source. I think it was transcript of a conference call. Juice should know.

"On August 14, 2008, we were informed that we were no longer in consideration for the JLTV program Milestone A (Technology Demonstration Phase). We will continue to pursue opportunities on the JLTV program by working with Milestone A vendors to determine whether there are potential fits for Force Protection technology (e.g. Force Armor™). In addition, we will continue to monitor the JLTV program as it transitions from Milestone A to Milestone B (System Development Phase) in fiscal years 2010 - 2011 with a view to reentering the competition.

hey a surfer.. well funny thing is i started surfing late this summer and lost interest in the market, surfing before and after work- just in time when everything got ugly. lost some money and i said forget this ill give it a few months and enjoy the beach lol. So as of late ive made my best trades on DRYS and FRPT.

But, I have to say, FRPT has held its own. On many days when the market has been red, FRPT has closed green. This is a very good sign, so I've always kept my core position and flipped the rest.

But I will try to make it back around here more often to join you guys and get some picks going again so we can make some $$. Happy New Year everyone!

Force Protection option volume discussed on CNBC
BY Fly On The Wall
— 2:02 PM ET 06/01/2009

CNBC's Jon Najarian highlighted increased option volume for Force Protection (FRPT) Najarian attributed the increased activity to speculation GM (GM) may sell its Hummer brand. The analyst said Force Protection's (FRPT) vehicles are replacing Hummers in the field of battle given their superiority.

Posted by cspaude on :

Has everyone over here bailed on FRPT?? Big contract likely announced tomorrow and many analysts are leaning to FRPT/Force Dynamics. Correction....HUGE contract. This will double FRPT for sure if it's sole source awarded like the DoD wants.
