Rand is probably the last person Hillary wants to run against.

When addressing the house he says: "many in this body (the house) can not get boots on the ground fast enough in a variety of places from Syria to Libya to Iran".

As to the story:

BERKELEY, Calif. — Delivering a rare speech for a Republican at this bastion of liberalism, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul on Wednesday was given multiple standing ovations by the left-wing audience after railing against government surveillance and warning the students: “Your right to privacy is under assault.”

“I am here to tell you that if you own a cell phone, you’re under surveillance,” he told the crowd.

Paul’s address at the Berkeley Forum on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley focused on the National Security Agency’s collection of telephone metadata and the debate over privacy.

During his remarks, the potential 2016 Republican candidate discussed California Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s claim that the CIA had spied on her congressional staff, and announced that he plans to call for a special committee on Capitol Hill to investigate the domestic spying by government agencies .

“No one should be allowed to invade your privacy,” Paul said. “That’s why I’m announcing today that when I return to Washington, I will push for a select committee styled after the Church Committee that investigated the abuses of power of the intelligence committee in the 70s. It should be bipartisan. It should be independent, and wide reaching. It should have full power to investigate and reform those who spy on us in the name of protecting us.”

Added Paul: “It should watch the watchers.”

That Paul decided to take his libertarian-leaning message to one of the most liberal campuses in the country is no mistake. He is actively making an effort to appear before crowds that have not been supportive of Republicans to demonstrate his ability to appeal to a broader electorate.

I like Ron Paul i always felt like what you see is what you get with him.

Rand? I'm suspicious. something doesn't quite smell right about him..... of course it may just be all the people around him [Wink]

The only difference I see between Ron and his son are that Ron didn't "sugar coat" his position on issues in any way, shape or form (which I admired, although it did give him the appearance of being a bit radical, which I also admired).

Rand I believe has learned to be a bit more "careful" with his words. I am fairly certain though that Rand's beliefs are pretty much in-line with his fathers...

I really dont know why some people think he is so creepy. Plus, Rand Paul is a doctor, an eye doctor mainly. He graduated from Duke's school of medicine. You think maybe he knows more when dealing with health care than Obama? He will take on both Republicans and Democrats in a debate. He has an interesting position on the tax code and that is taking out the word marriage so its a more neutral code.

He is against unnecessary and overbearing gun control. Marijuana is a state issue, and he also supports term limits. He takes a rather aggressive stance against metadata collection and storage of American citizens.

The guy goes around performing free eye surgeries for poor. Do you see Joe Biden or Obama doing anything like that?

Anyway, im not 100% sold on anyone this early. MSNBC last night was talking about Hillary's war chest. They said one report is forecasting her to raise $1.7 billion, and she has the ability to raise that much. So around $2 billion now if you want to become the President of the USA. Obama had to spend what, $1 billion or around there?

So whoever the Republican is going to be had better start as early as possible to come close to raising that much. Rand Paul getting standing overations at Berkley, and warm reviews from a few liberal outlets is a very good sign for him. I dont think Ted Cruz or Jeb Bush are going to get that good of a reaction if they went to Berkley.

I will say that I have pretty much lost all hope in the system if it boils down to a Bush-Clinton campaign for 2016. Why cant Hillary just stop, and retire and go around the world doing philanthropic work? Is power and control that important to the Clinton family that they are still married after all of Bill's affairs? How sad. What kind of marriage is that?

The Bush family has a lot of power, but they dont constantly give the image of having it or wanting it like the Clintons do. Remember when Bill gave a speech at the WH a while back after President Obama introduced him? Watching him in front of that podium smiling and giving that smooth look and smile....it was like he was back home again. Obama just walked out the back door and let Bill have some fun for a few minutes.
