i think Beck is afraid he may have overreached. I think he has good reason to be afraid.

Paranoia could be possible, He did call out all Republicans at CPAC yesterday, after his radio/tv programs.

Not too sure he is paranoid though, he has been calling out progressives for a while now.

He seems more like a let the cards fall where they fall type of person.

Peaser i listened to that show when it was on. I found it to be very disingenuous.

in Part 4 they talk about Deism being considered differently today than it was then.
they say agnosticism or atheism is equated to deism today and that is just not true.

Deist's do not beleive that God performs miracles. They tend to have a scientific view towards religion. It is true that Deists have differnt Faiths today just as they did in the 1700's, but it still means the same thing. Deism was in fact a large school of thought shared by many educated people, not just some our founding fathers.

The Jefferson Bible removed all accounts of what Jefferon perceived as Magical acts performed by Jesus and presented him as more like a Rabbi and not as the Saviour.

After completion of the Life and Morals, about 1820, Jefferson shared it with a number of friends, but he never allowed it to be published during his lifetime.

The most complete form Jefferson produced was inherited by his grandson, Thomas Jefferson Randolph, and was published in 1895 by the National Museum in Washington.

The book was later published as a lithographic reproduction by an act of the United States Congress in 1904. For many years copies were given to new members of Congress.[6] The text is now freely available on the Internet since it is in the public domain.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_Bible

the text is available here online:

http://www.angelfire.com/co/JeffersonBible/

if you go the end? it stops at his burial and makes no mention of the Resurection. In Europe? Jefferson would have most likely been executed for that.

when Beck tires to make the case that our Founders were religious men he is not lying, but he failed to point out that being a member of a Church was a requirement in many States prior to holding any public office, so all of these men would have been Churchgoers or they wouldn't have been in politics at all.

and to say they did these things even tho they didn't want to is just foolish.

to say that our Founders were not progressives is even more foolish

glad i tuned in today.

Glen is now trying to "educate" us about the "forgotten depression"

he's going on about the depression of 1920 and how it was fixed.

well, the truth of this is nothing like what Glen is going on about. the Roaring Twenties followed that depression and the roaring twenties gave US the Great Depression. In many ways? the little depression was fixed just as Dubya tried to fix the recession we had when he came into office and the same thing happened again, that's how we got into the mess we are in now.

today Glen is just plain lying. there are so many similarities between the 20's and hte mid 2000's it's incredible. the most glaring issue is the easy availabiltiy of cash to borrow.

When overall stock market margin rates got to be the same in 2006 and 2007 as they were in the late twenties? i was becoming concerned, and posted as much right here in real time. What i wasn't really aware of at that time was that the banks themselves had margin spreads even worse in their mortgage portfolios.

i don't think Glen has any clue about Truth. Whether it is intentional or just stupidity? I dunno but todays show takes the cake for ignorance at best.

interesting article Pagan. Since i live in a small town in MS i am constantly being told a rehash by people i meet of Becks latest rantings and ravings that's why i started tuning in.

i tend to agree with the article in that Beck is dangerous simply because of the number of people that take what he says as gospel because he does in fact present it like televangelists do.

i think i said before that i wish he had written transcripts like limbugger does so i could refute his so-called Truths without having to first explain his statements and then refute them. He isn't wrong about everything he says. I don't disagree with everything he says by a longshot, but he's always working toward a goal that isn't really clear. I'm not even sure he knows what his goals are other than to develop a following of people that will accept his "teachings". Maybe he thinks he's a modern day prophet, or more appropriately a Latter day Prophet

here's what's really scary about Beck and Hannity and well Fox News in general.

Newscorp (the parent co) now owns the WSJ and has launched business channel as well as several other publications.

the more i watch Fox the more i see them quoting other news sources that are actually all part of newscorp.

The Weekly Standard? another product of Newscorp has never even made a profit, but they constantly get their articles featured on Fox and they even hire the writers to do commentary and advertise the paper all the time.

Newscorp was of course founded by Rupert Murdoch who was an Aussie until he hit the maximum amount of media outlets allowed to be owned by foreign interests, so he became an American citizen. Sometime in the last few years? The Saudi Royal family bought a 5% interest in the co too...

it wouldn't bother me so much if they were really fair and balanced, or they just didn't lie so much.

Hannity's Conservative Victory: More than 20 falsehoods, smears, and distortions
March 31, 2010 3:06 pm ET — 224 Comments

On Page 155 of Conservative Victory, Sean Hannity claims that conservatives "have the best weapon at hand to combat [liberals'] efforts: the truth." According to a Media Matters for America review, Hannity appeared to leave that "weapon" at home, as his new book is riddled with numerous falsehoods, smears, and distortions. Below are more than 20 of them:

Here's the takeaway, something that Limbaugh revealed years ago, although unintentionally:

quote:
What his regular viewers haven't grasped yet is that he's putting on a show. He's playing a role. He's tricking his audience.
Basically, it's like the famous Orson Welles martian invasion--a hoax, a put-on.

Which is fine, as long as the audience is savvy enough to "get it."

Sadly, as in Orson's time, we still have a lotta folks who just ain't savvy...

That may be politically incorrect, but it's true.

Dont forget about MSNBC. Everyone wants to pick on Fox news when the same thing is going on with a different network. Old school CNN from the 90s?

yes, but as CashCow points out? he mixes alot of fact into it. he plays this roll of journalist exposing "BIG" myths when they aren't myths and then presents "solutions" to real problems using mythology. For example, there is so much mythology surrounding Reaganomics that he likes to exploit. Reagan did some very good things, but he did not decrease the size or spending of the govt one bit.

the show yesterday is great example, he pretends that nobody really knows about the '20 depression. It was real and it was bad, but it was a natural result of ending the 1st WW. Which by the way we didn't win, it ended in our favor but only because of a worldwide flu outbreak that in some cases wiped out whole cities. The flu also contributed to the economic mess.

i think Glen's only real goal is to develop a following much like Pat Robertson, but with his own unique blend of economics, religion and politics.

as for Hannity? I'd like to see him hire a "liberal" with some real charisma and brains to try to "debate" rather than the sad sak Colmes. Colmes and that guy Juan are handpicked to provide weak arguments.

i watched Olberman last wek, i see your point about him, but i don't see him as having the kind of influence that Hannity and Beck have, that's my biggest concern, people are being propagandised in a very big way at Fox and these guys have the right to free speech, but IMO they are damaging the GOP as much as anything else by misinforming their followers.

the guy has not just no morals, but severely corrupted ones:

According to a 2 June 1999, article in The Virginian-Pilot,[23] Robertson had extensive business dealings with Liberian president Charles Taylor. According to the article, Taylor gave Robertson the rights to mine for diamonds in Liberia's mineral-rich countryside. According to two Operation Blessing pilots who reported this incident to the state of Virginia for investigation in 1994, Robertson used his Operation Blessing planes to haul diamond-mining equipment to Robertson's mines in Liberia, despite the fact that Robertson was telling his 700 Club viewers that the planes were sending relief supplies to the victims of the genocide in Rwanda. In response to Taylor's alleged crimes against humanity the United States Congress passed a bill In November 2003 that offered two million dollars for his capture. Robertson accused President Bush of "undermining a Christian, Baptist president to bring in Muslim rebels to take over the country." At the time Taylor was harboring Al Qaeda operatives who were funding their operations through the illegal diamond trade.[24] On February 4, 2010, at his war crimes trial in the Hague, Charles Taylor testified that Robertson was his main political ally in the U.S., and that he had volunteered to make Liberia's case before U.S. administration officials in exchange for concessions to Robertson's Freedom Gold, Ltd., to which Taylor gave a contract to mine gold in southeast Liberia.[25] In 2010, a spokesman for Robertson said that the company's arrangements - the Liberian government got a 10 percent equity interest in the company and Liberians could purchase at least 15 percent of the shares after the exploration period - was similar to many American companies doing business in Africa at the time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Robertson

the Virginai pilot is based in Norfolk, the city of Va Beach is right next door where Robertson lives and set up his universlty among other interests, and Robertson regualrly lobbied for and got special tax deals for his faith based businesses in Va Beach.

people got all upset about Reverand Wright's 911 statements?

Roberston said the exact same stuff and still got invited to the White House.

true, and power is not free, sticking with the topic which is Glen Beck? Today he is trying to say that printing money is UnAmerican and thatthe Founders would be rolloing over in their graves: so lets look at how the Founders paid for the Revolutionary War:

in May 1775, the Continental Congress began making preparations for war with Great Britain they resolved to issue paper money to pay for salaries and supplies. Taxation was not even considered, and the few who recommended it were ridiculed or ignored. Americans were rightly averse to any taxation, but war bills had to be paid somehow. They chose to finance the war through the printing of bills of credit (paper currency receivable for future taxes).

There is still debate among historians about when the paper currency began depreciating. Sumner concluded from his research that it was almost immediate. He cited a resolution of the Massachusetts Provincial Congress (28 June 1775) declaring that anyone who refused these notes or demanded a premium for them was an "enemy of the country."

the depreciation became marked and significant in the latter half of 1776. By December, the Continental dollar had sunk to 66% of a specie dollar. To combat the depreciation, the states made the paper currencies legal tender for all debts and purchases, enacted price controls, and printed more money. The states made it a crime to refuse paper money, demand a premium in paper, or charge lower prices for specie. Punishments included public humiliation, fines, imprisonment, and the forfeiture or confiscation of the goods or property concerned.
In addition, delegates from the New England states met at the end of 1776 to set price ceilings for a wide range of goods and to enact wage controls as the high prices being paid for labor were said to be inhibiting military recruitment.

In five years, they had issued $241 million continental paper dollars, the states had issued $209 million of their own notes, but millions more of each had been counterfeited by private individuals as well as the British. Congress called on the states to retire the Continentals by levying taxes payable in either paper or specie. If one preferred the latter, one silver dollar would pay $40 in taxes. Over the next year, the states would retire $120 million continentals. They also levied taxes to collect their own worthless currencies. The experiment of fiat paper was over.
Even as they retired the Continentals, neither Congress nor the states were ready to forego using paper currency. For the remainder of the war, Congress would continue to rely on it to pay the troops and supply the army and navy. They simply learned to be more sparing in its issue and to maintain some link, however tenuous, to gold and silver. In 1780, Congress issued $4.5 million in a new interest-bearing currency, redeemable in coin after five years, and receivable for taxes. It too depreciated rapidly after being paid out. In 1781, Congress chartered a fractional-reserve bank, the Bank of North America, the declared purpose of which was to lend funds to the government, and furnish the country with a stable paper currency.

http://mises.org/daily/1273

our Founders were not Divinely Inspired, they were hardworking Men who dealt with the real world. Heck, they printed money with no backing at all to fight the war. The notes were literally just promissory checks written with a future date. It' almost like the pay-day loans we have everywhere today.
this crap Beck is slinging is making me angry because it's hurting our country when people have unrealistic ideas about how we were founded.

Posted by glassman on :

it took me awhile to find it, but the Colonies apparently had 12 million dollars in circualtion before the Continental Dollar was issued. This was "divided" amongst about 2.5 million people.

by the second printing of Continetal dollar at the end of 1775? the amount of money was effectively doubled.

New issues were made at various times until the close of 1779, when the aggregate amount was $242,000,000. Then the bills had so much depreciated that $100 in specie would purchase $2,600 in paper currency. By the end of 1781, $100 in specie would purchase $16,800 in paper.

that is how our country WAS founded!

heck, we could catch up with Mexico real fast if get rid of the dept of Education. Third world in ten years garanteed

We seemed to do fine before the Department of Education was made if 1980 is the correct year of establishment. This of course unless there was some prior program under a different name.

it used to be part of Health Education and Welfare. This is another good example of how Glen decieves people.

i thik he's lying on purpose too, this is not something he should ha missed

HEW was split up

In 1979, the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare was renamed the Department of Health and Human Services, and its education functions transferred to the new Department of Education. Patricia Roberts Harris headed the department before and after it was renamed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Secretary_of_Health_and_Human_Service s

They just mentioned how Canada has no Dept of Ed. well, yeah, but hey DO have natioanlised helath [BadOne]

Glen keeps this up and he will be destroying conservatism in America by laeding conservatives too far away from thetruth.

i am concernend about our debt, have been for several years. The best way IMO is to fix our trade deficit tho. That SHOULD increase incomes across the board which would increase govt revenues.

cutting Govt spending is just as dangerous as what we just went thru cuz the govt spending is part of the economy. Cut govt jobs? That's jobs lost, those people then have to go into the private sector and get jobs there. Those jobs don't exist now do they?

Today he is trying to say that printing money is UnAmerican and thatthe Founders would be rolloing over in their graves: so lets look at how the Founders paid for the Revolutionary War:

The Founders rolling over in their graves comment refered to The US following in European policies such as social security insurance and medicare, etc...

If the founders knew of us following the european styled plans, they would be disgusted.

The Founders wouldn't have been surprised though as many predicted that we would not be able to keep our nation as originally intended.

At the close of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia on September 18, 1787, a Mrs. Powel anxiously awaited the results, and as Benjamin Franklin emerged from the long task now finished, asked him directly: "Well Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" "A republic if you can keep it" responded Franklin.

I might pay $25-$35 for a floor seat up close, but these prices are a tad extreme for me, and I listen to his radio + tv programs almost daily. $25 to be in the rafters at a "town hall" style meeting is too much IMO. I'd rather pay $1-$4 to rent it, when it comes out on DVD.

the founders would have been so disturbed that we gave thier wives mothers and daughters the right to vote, educate every single child to adulthood that is educatable and try to educate the ones that are not. Put a library in nearly every community? Paved the nation coast to coast and put a man on the moon all by way of taxes?

i have absolutley no doubt that they would be disturbed that their wives can vote and their slaves were taken from them [Wink]

our founders were humans with human problems and imperfect solutions to problems.
that was my point. they should be respected for the MOST PROGRESSIVE govt ever acheived on the planet. we have kept this Republic and we will. We are facing alot of big problems but becoming communist or fascist (that's what Nazis really were )is no the problem.

my point was that they borrowed 20 times the amount of money that whole colonial system had in circulation and said that they would tax their children and grandchildren while refusing to tax in the moment. which they did. One silver dollar was worth 800 of their paper dollars at the end of the revolution. Our finacial problems today are nothing compared to that single decision they made in 1775, and we got thru it by working.

Glen calls regulation slavery? 30 seconds in he says our Founding Fathers called red tape slavery?

the dudes brain is twisted inside.

that's right at the first 30 seconds...

the Founding Fatheres called Slavery what it was. They Constitutioanlised it. The SCOTUS ruled on it int he Dred Scott decision and upheld it.

Glen is the biggest revisionist i've ever seen.

the recent crash was intitaited by new accounting rules that forced the Banks to value their assets at real market prices instead whatever value htey wanted to assign them, i posted many links to this as the slide began. The old rules were considered dishonest by everybody in the business, o they were changed, remeber all the pepl saying get rid of the mark to market rules and this problem will be fixed? Well nobody who understood why they needed mark to market rules beleived the new rules should be repealed, the only people who wanted to keep the old rules were losing their investments because under the old rules, th ebanks could loan themselves money by inflating (falsely) the value of their balance sheet to increase their credit rating.

as to the cap and trade system? Beck doesn't have clue what he's talking about.

it's not a weatlh transfer scheme, any more than the stock market is. Of course it's scheme designed to create finance for alternative energy sources, and BTW? we need that even more now that the oil well is bleeding out of control.

Glens mouth works way faster than his brain, the words all work together but they don't have any meaning.

If you were to trascribe his work and try to read it? It would become quite obvious how retarded he is. Thats why he doesn't do it. He is overdependant on his visual and audio "preacher" skills to get his message across, they just don't translate into writing

i don't remember her being mentioned here before...

she's like 90 or something, so she gets to sit in the front row at press breifings, she's been there forever, but that comment was pretty sad...

as to Beck? he spends an hour a day on TV trying to change facts, i saw him today claiming Deism was "differnt" back in the days of Ben Franklin, but it wasn't. Franklin went to Church, several Churches in fact, but hat doesn't make him Christian. IN fact he plainly said he did not acept Jesu as his Saviour which to Southern Baptists means he is not a Christian. And to say he wasn't a Deist cuz it was different then than it is now, is sort of like a Roman Catholic saying Protestants aren't Christian... They are both Christians because they say they are.... heck i know alotof Southern Baptists who say Methodists aren't Christian for one reason or another....

I have known a lot of Unitarians who are NOT Christians at all, and i know some that are Christians, but hey call themselves Unitarian Universalists... but Becks guest today tried to say that Unitarians are all Christians... he just doesn't know what a Unitarian is, cuz i know some that are most definitely Pagan...

sure i watch Glen. But i don't buy from his sponsors...

I used to watch Chris till he went crazy for Obama... You're right he's in love with the guy. Beck on the other hand hates him and lies about it...

Chris and Dylan Rattigan have been ranting about how badly Obama mishandled the oil spill on MSNBC, and now the Fox crew is starting to go on about it too..

I don't watch Glen every day , but i don't think he's even mentioned it...

Well, the red phone rang tonight and kinda freaked out Glenn. It was pretty funny.

The phone number that only the white house had.

Well, the number to the phone was taped to the bottom and a watcher saw it, and called.

Glen does say alot of the right things Peaser.

But hen he turns right around uses (for instance) video clips out'ocontext to make people sound like they are big fans of Mao... whne they are not.

He spends way too much time trying to make the Founders something they were not. He attempts to make Progressives sound evil, when in fact progressives are the one who freed th eslave, gave women the right to vote and created child labor laws... So his basic premises that we live in lies is true, he lives one of the biggest lies there is.

well, Peaser even Hitler wasn't wrong in everything he said...

i bet i fi looked i could find a quote that sounded OK...

the lady that he was "picking on" was making an absurd statement as i recall saying the Mother Theresas and Mao Tsa Tung were he rfavorite political philosophers whatever that means...

at first you assume everybody understnads it's just being absurd, even Glen, but hen he rpeaets it and repeats it and repeats until there's just nothing you can assume about anybody thinking it's absurd anymore...

Yesterday's show? Glen started off sounding like me... He siad you shulld live your life to do the work you want to do adn that then money will come as you need it.. he specifically said that living JUST to make money was a hollow existence... i was like what happened to Glen, he's sounding like a ratioanl humanist. But then he blew it int he next segment.. so i could quote him sounding just perfectly normal there...

Districts Warn of Deeper Teacher Cuts
By TAMAR LEWIN and SAM DILLON
Published: April 20, 2010

We are doing things and considering options I never thought I’d have to consider,” said Peter C. Gorman, superintendent of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools in North Carolina, who expects to cut 600 of the district’s 9,400 teachers this year, after laying off 120 last year. “This may be our new economic reality.”

Districts in California have given pink slips to 22,000 teachers. Illinois authorities are predicting 17,000 job cuts in the public schools. And New York has warned nearly 15,000 teachers that their jobs could disappear in June.

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan estimated that state budget cuts imperiled 100,000 to 300,000 public school jobs. In an interview on Monday, he said the nation was flirting with “education catastrophe,” and urged Congress to approve additional stimulus funds to save school jobs. Some of the deepest cuts are in Los Angeles, where Superintendent Ramon C. Cortines sent notices to 5,200 of the district’s 80,000 employees last month, telling them that they were losing their jobs.

glen is a total moron. i mean how stupid can you get?

ATLANTIC CITY — Negotiations to avoid the largest wave of Atlantic City government layoffs in recent history collapsed Monday, clearing the way for 93 city jobs to be cut Thursday.

An afternoon meeting at City Hall between members of the Langford administration and city union representatives ended with no progress, prompting the city to move forward with its plan to cut the jobs, which will include 40 police officers and 30 firefighters.

the ad says teachers and friemen cops will lose their jobs and he says it's a lie?

Yes, as the ad mentions that this will happen if Tparty folks are elected by the people. SO then, what is happenning with TParty people currently not in office?

LOL.. the teachers are ALREADY being cut and he claims it's lie?

Teachers have been cut around here for years, as a result of a shrinking number of the student body in some public schools. Another reason is that some school districts have combined to become one school, thus closing the other. This of course is due to folks in the school district voting on the issue, going hand in hand with "available" capital in school district budgets.

LOL, i posted very recent links, and the jobs that have not been lost at the state levels are because of the stimulus from The Federal Govt directly to the state Govts.

Tax cuts is wher the most money in the stimulus went

ABCs of stimulus: Few teachers' jobs saved by federal aid
By RAJU CHEBIUM • WASHINGTON BUREAU •

October 15, 2010

Shore school officials, concerned that federal aid intended to minimize teacher layoffs may be a one-time gift, are reviewing how they would use the money in the next school year.

The $268 million in total federal aid that New Jersey received arrived too late to save all but a handful of jobs this year, but it will pay for some classroom hiring for the 2011-12 school year, officials say.

Many of New Jersey's approximately 600 school districts got a share of the $268 million about three weeks ago, along with advice from the state Department of Education to hold onto the money until next year.

"The decisions regarding layoffs needed to be made in May and June," said Laura Morana, superintendent of the 1,000-student Red Bank public school district, whose share of the funding is $83,000. "We got it (the money) three weeks ago. It was too late."

The $10 billion that Congress and President Barack Obama approved for schools in August, which included $268 million for New Jersey, didn't end education cutbacks. The latest national unemployment report, which covers part of September, showed that school districts across the country cut 49,800 teaching and nonteaching jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The package was supposed to prevent 160,000 layoffs nationwide.

Supporters contend that tens of thousands of additional teachers would have been cut if the money hadn't been approved. A total of 3,900 New Jersey teaching jobs were to be saved.

TParty economics will crush thei country fast.. watch, the GOP will not have anything to do with it, they'll make noises and play games, but hey know better...

and? I beleive Beck knows beter too, but nobody would listen to him if he didn't play the fool.

Our local town police's existance will be on the ballot this year to "save" tax payers some dollars. All they are doing is trying to shift the town police to the county sheriffs dept. This was done a town over from us the prior year.

I will be voting to keep our local police come Nov. 2.
