I'ts nice to know he was only charged with manslaughter and not 2nd degree murder etc. This is the result of racism and paranoia much like with the current Socialism paranoia. This could of been me considering im Latin and live on Long Island... it has been happening more and more in the past 2 or 3 years I would say here... I'm American (Latin-American that is) born and bred but yet some d*ckhead group of teenagers could decide to do the same to me because they view all Latins as illegal or legal immigrants & because they blame everything on them and not look at the true root of society's ills & not blame a ethnic group or immigrants (whether legal or illegal) in general. I hope you all look at that mothers' anguished face and see what your hateful words and thoughts cause to young minds:

yes... racism is alive and well...

I know you feel this everyday.

I am sorry Mach.

Yes I do agree the sickness of racism runs through our country and is used often by the stupid and dim witted as an answer for a lot of problems that are borne out of starvation and financial necessity.

illeagal is a term that is easier to dehumanize people that are starving and in poverty. They just see a chance to feed there families and take it.And for that they live in a hostile enviorment and fear for there lives at times. This is wrong we should treat our brothers and sisters as part of the human family and work together to solve this problem.

I hope to god that the people of this country are never forced to leave it for the reasons of work or money. If we are I hope we are recieved better than we gave.

Unfortunately that poor soul was not a illegal immigrant... he was just stereotyped by those bigots as being one and because of their bigotry they took his life... racism starts in the home in my opinion... and i have no doubt that the killer in this case probably heard good ole dad saying anti immigrant/hispanic rants and young stupid jock minds are impressionable...

Anyways like I said it could of been me because that attack occurred at the train station and just like me I'm at the train station parking my car everyday...

Regardless of what problems this country has, parents should never preach hate to their kids... even subconciously...

there are alot of articles being written about this case.

one journalist went to teh high school to find out if there was an air of racism there...

turns out that there is.

because the ESL (english second language) calsses are all in one hall? the Spanish speaking students get "segregated" automatically...

also? The district went from 4 percent Latino to 24 percent in five years. Three of the seven elementary schools are 50 percent Latino, Mostow said.

this type of thing is inevitable in these situations, always has been, and always will be...
75 years ago? it was Italians, before that it was Irish and Germans... they did have wars and violence then, but people didn't call it racist because they were all white.

the "anti-immigration" sentiment would not be as bad as it is if we didn't have 11 million people coming here illegally.

there's no excuse for this kind of behaviour, but there are ways to deal with it. and unless you address the actual issues instead of making excuses for both side of the problem? you won't fix anything.

That is no excuse for anyone to commit a violent act to any immigrant, legal or illegal. This guy for the record as far as the articles have said is a LEGAL immigrant. But latins are all stereotyped as illegal and like I said it could easily have been me and not him....

The way to deal with it is for the parents to not preach hate in the home. To teach right from wrong regardless of any problems in the country.

like i said, there's no excuse for this kind of behaviour, there's lots of hate being preached everywhere by alot of people.

and there's no excuse for it whether a person is an immigrant legal or illegal or not.

NY has ALWAYS had problems like this.

when i lived in So Cali? i wouldn't/couldn't go into the latino neighborhoods because i'm not latino, that's not right either..

i saw the perpwalk on TV for this.

one of the assailants was black, and one of them was hispanic:

The seven teenagers from Medford and East Patchogue were all charged with first-degree gang assault, a felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison. The teen accused of actually carrying out the murder, Jeffrey Conroy, 17, of Medford, a lacrosse player and wrestler at Patchogue-Medford High School, was additionally charged with first-degree manslaughter as a hate crime, also punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

In addition to Mr. Conroy, also arrested were Jordan Dasch, 17, of Medford; Anthony Hartford, 17, of Medford; Nicholas Hausch, 17, of Medford; Christopher Overton, 16, of East Patchogue; Jose Pacheco, 17, of East Patchogue and Kevin Shea, 17, of Medford.

A bunch of a-holes attack and kill this poor guy and they should be punished as per our laws.

This however should not make the enforcement of illegal immigration weaker. Controlled and lawful immigration will make our country strong, illegal uncontrolled immigration will destroy us.

Recently a local illegal immigrant killed a local citizen, should I now call all illegal immigrants racist? The person killed was a woman, should I now call all illegal immigrants sexual preditors.

The fact that the guy killed in long island was hispanic does not make a society racist.

8 Arrested in Alleged KKK Initiation-Related Murder

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

COVINGTON, La. — An Oklahoma woman invited to a rural Louisiana campsite for a Ku Klux Klan initiation ritual was shot and killed after she asked to be taken back to town, the sheriff of a New Orleans suburb said Tuesday.

Eight people were arrested after authorities found the woman's body hidden under some brush, on the side of a road several miles from the remote campsite where the initiation was planned.

Investigators found weapons, several flags and six Klan robes at the campsite, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Jack Strain said in a news release.

Strain said the woman, whose identity was not released, was recruited over the Internet to participate in the ritual and then return to her home state to find other members for the white supremacist group.

I guess you didn't read the part where i said he was a "LEGAL" immigrant and not illegal... he did everything correct in terms of immigration and still this is what happened to him... because of the stereotype that all hispanics are illegal immigrants... not that it matters because illegal or legal... such things should not happen to a human being regardless...

This has nothing to do with enforcement of illegal immigration and all to do with racism and stereotyping in this country... that kid had alot of hate in him and it most likely started in his home from his parents... it doesn't matter if it was a immigrant or not... could of been because the guy was black, asian, gay, woman etc. That is what you don't get Lock...

And i posted this not because it's a isolated incident but because it is very frequent here in Long Island, especially in Suffolk County where this crime occurred...

The difference between this story and the ones you have said about an illegal immigrant robbing or sexually assaulting a local in your area is that yours most likely is a isolated incident in which it was opportunistic situation... wouldn't have mattered the race of attacker and victim nor their citizenship status... the incident in Long Island was clearly racial and anti-immigrant and sorry for calling you this but your being ignorant because you do not live here and do not know the situations here... the incident in Long Island isn't a isolated one but a concentrated one... these anti immigrant/hispanic incidents have been happening alot in that area of Suffolk County since I would say the year 2000 or so...

I could search for other stories to show you... one other incident that comes to mind is when two other idiots lured two day laborers with a promise of construction jobs... they took them to a "worksite" and when they got there tried to kill them... same area of Long Island more or less... that is just two stories... there are others....

The fact that these incidents keep happening in Long Island and especially that area does make that society of Long Island racist...

Ignorance is bliss as they say...

Hey Mach, I don't live on Long Island, but what your saying is there's racisism on long Island, there's a situation there where you percive the community is anti-hispanic, maybe it is.
Your post however insinuated that the United States population is anti-Hispanic, that's not true. The United States bends over backwards to accomidate hispanics, what hispanic country can I go to and take my drivers test in English or for that matter any form from government document.
Having illegal Hispanic immigrants flooding our country is cause for part of the prejidice you feel. I don't think anyone should be beaten or hurt in anyway, but I'm sure their are those in the hispanic community that have prejedice towards other groups as well.

Moving backwards? ... No I'm not moving backwards.. i want everyone to move forward... but that can't ever happen without tolerance and teaching kids right from wrong... and killing someone for race or because of immigration (whether legal or illegal) is wrong... that is what moving or keep us backwards... that area of Suffolk County Long Island is backwards and so is your ideals when you think nothing is wrong with killing someone just because you disagree with illegal immigration or immigration in general... that is thinking backwards...

Anyways I'll reply to the other posts later tonight... been busy with work and such...

I never said I thought killing someone was ok because of an immigration issue. In fact there is nothing in this thread that says that. This is typical of loudmouth liberal rant. Making the other side appear to have said things that they never did in order to smear. So low....so so low.

Or how about other parades celebrating pride in ones heritage like Columbus day parade for italians and half a dozen or more parades I can list if you wish?... Notice the Mexicans get singled out for doing the same thing that is done by others and aren't even mentioned...

Well, those Irish and Italians are not illegally entering the United States to have babies on US soil for free health care now are they? You do not hear "press 1 for irish, press 2 for english" do you? The Irish have a once a year festival, this is just in your face what are you going to do now type of mess. For crying out loud there are places in Texas that are now accepting PESOS as currency...PESOS!

Not perceive or "maybe it is". It's a fact about Suffolk County Long Island. It is predominatly "white" in that area and they wish to keep it that way... Here is a article that came out yesterday about this case. I will highlight what interested me:

And what goes through the minds of the parents is quickly passed on to their children.

"I think there is clearly a phenomenon of what gets discussed at the dinner table gets passed on to the kids," he said.

1. Accomodate Hispanics? The Dems do, yes but the GOP certainly doesn't make them welcomed or accomodate them:

http://www.nypost.com/seven/11222008/postopinion/opedcolumnists/answering_the_go ps_hispanic_dilemma_140162.htm

2. What Gov't let's you take a driver's test in english or application for Gov't documents in english? You don't travel much to Latin American country's i take it? English speaking alien residents in Costa Rica (for example) are accomodated in both things... and do not complain that Yankee's do not bother to learn spanish...

3. Prejudice in the Hispanic community toward other communities?. Gee, I wonder why. [Roll Eyes]

ahh ok.. so as long as you are a legal non discriminated in the present time Immigrant, it is ok to wave the flag of another country. No matter if 1 time a year or several times a year... how could i been stupid, it is so clear now. [Roll Eyes]

I must be so stupid to think there is illegal immigrants from Ireland and other countries who take the same advantages as hispanic immigrants but are never discriminated against... [Roll Eyes] you are right.. "All" illegal immigrants in this country are "Only" hispanic ... no white europeans, canadians, asians or from other Non Hispanic countrys... me so stupid... [Were Down]

Damn I am so stupid to think that only in our country other currencies are used instead and that our dollar is not used in other countries as a form of currency itself in Latin America, Asia (thailand etc.), Middle East etc:

"Dollarization and fixed exchange rates

Other nations besides the United States use the U.S. dollar as their official currency, a process known as official dollarization. For instance, Panama has been using the dollar alongside the Panamanian balboa as the legal tender since 1904 at a conversion rate of 1:1. Ecuador (2000), El Salvador (2001), and East Timor (2000) all adopted the currency independently. The former members of the U.S.-administered Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, which included Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Marshall Islands, chose not to issue their own currency after becoming independent, having all used the U.S. dollar since 1944. Two British dependencies also use the U.S. dollar: the British Virgin Islands (1959) and Turks and Caicos Islands (1973)."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_dollar#International_use

How could i be so stupid about such things and not see that the Cowman has thought this through and is all knowning... [Were Down]

Stop Mooing... no one is saying entitlement, just equality without discrimination and hatred... is that so difficult to see and understand?. Geesh.

Anyways this case is not about illegal immigration but you are making it into it and it is why young people start to hate when they see adults like you spewing anti-immigrant talk instead of telling them that no matter how they feel about the issue you should know right from wrong and violence is always wrong. No matter a persons' citizen status in any country, murder and violence towards them is never a solution. Why do you not preach that to the youth of America instead of "immigrant this" and "immigrant that"?

I will say it again, the guy was a LEGAL immigrant who went by the book and was just going to the movies with his friend when he was attacked and murdered.

The Saint Patrick Day and Columbus Day celebrations are not designed to encourage unlawful immigration to the United States.

The Haitian day, Jamacian day and most ethnic day parades are not designed to encourage unlawful immigration.

The Mexican demonstrations where the Mexican Flag was raised were designed to encourage unlawful immigration and the downfall of the United States Government.

Interesting.

Exactly how did you come by that information?

Was someone you personally know involved in that treachery and its planning, then passed the knowledge of it to you secretly?

You must hang out with some most influential people who must be plotting many other conspiracies.

You must be proud.

I think they were celebrating. People do that in crowds, kind of like dogs in packs act differently from when they are curled up in front of the fireplace at home, be it at the World Series or the Million Man March (ticked me off that it dis-included women) or a Fourth of July parade.

(By the way, as one who had forebears that were forced to draw a black bean, I detest Cinco de Mayo celebrations north of the Rio Grande. But, as a staunch defender of the Constitution, I insist, they have the right to do that.)

Ignorance! That's all you display.

You poor ignorant bigot.

There have always been wet backs here. But most of those you point at with so much scorn are our very own native born and raised here and hugely patriotic Anerican citizen Mexicans.

And they have contributed very very much to our society. I would never want to be without them. (Or our wet back Mexicans, for that matter. Hell, they are part of us.)

Yes, there are bad ones and there are young and inexperienced ones, just like the blond headed blue eyed damnyankee snowbirds that are so much harder to put up with. But most are just normal hard working hard loving folks.

I remember the Alamo. And I have read through the list of Texans that died there, noticing how many had Spanish surnames, good loyal Texas Mexicans. But then, at the time, everyone in the Alamo was a Mexican, in case you hadn't thought it through.

And I remember Goliad. At least the guys in the Alamo had guns when Santa Anna had them killed. He executed those at Goliad after they had surrendered their weapons and agreed to terms, including that they would not be killed.

Santa Anna was an evil jerk, which is why there was a Battle of the Alamo.

Actually if you adhere to your liberal ideals, Texas shouldn't even exist. After all didn't we invade Mexico and take it.

No, Texas was not "taken". At the time it became a part of the United States, Texas was an independent nation.

There seems to be a bit of American history you are a mite short on.

You seem as confused as others here. Probably, most of my ideas are more conservative than not. I am a true blood pickup driving, with guns in the gun rack, spittin out the winder red neck E-mur-i-kan. Though, unlike a lot of my brethren, I don't hate black folks for getting freed or Mexicans for wanting to work.

Perhaps you misinterpret my willingness to defend the Constitution (adding in that I went past the 5th grade and feel comfortable working in the English language and with entropy and I know what a free radical is) as liberal. I suppose, if you are willing to treat the Constitution as republicans have in recent decades and you can also accept their designation that republican and conservative are synonyms, I actually ain't qualified to be one o' them, aw-right.

Republican ain't conservative and non-republican ain't liberal, though that may not be true in specific cases.

Yes, the U.S. did invade Mexico, along with a contingent of Texas Rangers, but that was a generation after the Texas Revolution.

However, don't despair. Whether or not you agree or disagree, you are a bigot. It is prejudice that delineates it. And the Lord knows you have never spared the prejudice.

Is there any person or people you don't consider unworthy of treating like a human and that you don't thrill at every opportunity of declaring that they don't deserve to have the rights the Constitution grants to "the People? Must you besmirch the character of everyone that isn't a bible thumping far right-wing extremist WASP? If not, you have loudly kept their identity of that chosen people hidden.

Actually bdgee it IS true because you believe that whoever objects to your thoughts or posts is a "bible thumping" bigot. That is bigotry right there. You are just a childish adult. Just like a majority of congressmen and women who are 55 acting like 12 year old kids. If for once you offered solutions instead of accusations you may have a CHANCE of being taken seriously. All you do is blow hot air at people don't agree with you and call them names.

cow,

You are, indeed, a "bible thumping" bigot."

Now, Mr. Pot, Mr. Black would like top know, please tell us exactly where or when you have offered anything that even MIGHT be a solution to anything? When did you ever even try? All you ever do is insult people and declare that far right-wing dreams are a solution to the exact holes they have put us in.

I'm certainly not surprised you don't take what I say seriously, for a couple of reasons.

First, you are simply not mentally sophisticated enough or too mentally lazy to know what is being said.

Second, whenever anything comes up that is not coincident with that wealth of bias and bigotry you cling to. you respond not with information, but with vulgar character attacks, just as you did here.

Here is a solution: GO LEARN SOMETHING THAT IS NOT ESSENTIALLY A CUT AND PASTE JOB FROM FOX NEWS OR FAT RUSH THE DOPER. If we needed to have those slanted interpretations, we could get them clean and direct with no need of your intermediaryism.

cow,

Essentially, every post of yours is some way to demean and degrade someone somewhere. You seem to believe it is "smart", much as PM does.

What it actually is is a proof that your claimed Christianity is superficial and/or false.

You cannot resist the urge to belittle and insult and compare people and make rude accusatory insinuations about their character, their actions, or their beliefs, clearly ignoring the fact that the religion you so loudly insist you have a monopoly on had a profit that told you to be without sin or not cast the first stone.

I tell you this in hope of offering you a way to improve yourself. I must admit, though, I doubt you will offer even a passing consideration of it, choosing instead to use it as an excuse to attack with more venom, disrespect, and hate.

I tried.

cash? your uh signature is not exactly conducive to ending the "problem"...

since you don't even have the quote right? or the spirit in which it was stated? i though you might like to see what he actually said:

Here’s how it is: in a lot of these communities in big industrial states like Ohio and Pennsylvania, people have been beaten down so long, and they feel so betrayed by government, and when they hear a pitch that is premised on not being cynical about government, then a part of them just doesn’t buy it.

But the truth is, is that, our challenge is to get people persuaded that we can make progress when there’s not evidence of that in their daily lives. You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Um, now these are in some communities, you know. I think what you’ll find is, is that people of every background — there are gonna be a mix of people, you can go in the toughest neighborhoods, you know working-class lunch-pail folks, you’ll find Obama enthusiasts. And you can go into places where you think I’d be very strong and people will just be skeptical. The important thing is that you show up and you’re doing what you’re doing.

you can find the whole speech right here. it's worth the time to read, he wasn't calling anyone typical.

it seems to me that he was correct, if not Right. [Wink]

and? the bitterer people sound? the more correct he becomes.

i hear alot of bitterness lately, and it's not Obama's fault.

i'm not excusing him, what i'm saying is that the bitterness is getting worse.

even here.

he was quoted well out of context, and i bet you that pretty soon? alot of liberals are going to be biotching about how "centrist" he is..

it's youzalls choices how to post here and talk elsewhere.. budgee isn't going to change all by himself and you know it.

Obama never lied to us so far, that's a huge start. i expect him to tho [Wink]

Posted by glassman on :

i should restate that part about Obama lying, i haven't caught a lie out of him yet, but i'm watching [Big Grin]

we have a rough few years ahead, no matter who is in charge.

Obama will be a GREAT president IMO. I am not expecting him to lie to us, yet I've expected it out of a lot of past presidents.(When will I learn)

I believe that if Obama does get caught in a lie, there could be an uprising due to the times.

I am expecting Obama to be forthcoming with the public, thus making the "Obama for Change" slogan true.

well, i hope you're right Peaser, we need a good president. we desparately need at least a half-decent one...

but he's still a politician, i'm sure even the best of them tell themselves it's for our own good when they sart and then it's just freighttrains form there..

Agreed.

He will be great, only if he remains honest and forthcoming, and does not succumb to politicism.

Politicism could be a new word in Webster's, and redefine politics going forward.

I've got high hopes...

Different people will see what they want. Not being able to fulfill campaign promises due to changes in the field isn't necessarily a lie.

I don't expect him to roll back the Bush tax cuts as he may want. He needs to be prudent and judge each decision on the best available data at the time.

No one can say that the landscape hasn't changed since he won the Democratic nomination. It has! The economy is much worse than most were led to believe. Yep, some of us here had a pretty good idea of how bad it was/is.

My biggest hope is that he will be able to step back from the fray and reassess if necessary for the betterment of the nation and not be stubborn like our current President or only hear what he wants to hear. We have had enough of that.

I am encouraged by the choices he has made in selecting his cabinet. He is surrounding himself with intelligent people many who have minds of their own. the ultimate decision will be his but al least it seems that he is willing to listen to all sides, internalizing it and then acting.

I remember during the campaign when the Left was shouting for him to get down in the dirt with McCain/Palin and he took his time to consider then decided to throw a few jabs instead of haymakers. He led his campaign and did it well, hopefully he does the same in this very difficult time.

I'm a "typical white person" that according to Obama, is "bitter and clings to guns and religion."

No but it's okay to divide the country into different classes of Americans because they see things differently. It's okay to insinuate that Obama is a muslim terrorist and not like the rest of us.

Just to show you how a comment can be taken out of context: You are not a "typical White person" since many of them voted for Obama, he could not have won without their vote but according to your signature line you are bitter, cling to guns and religion instead of discourse. I have read your and many others comments throughout the campaign that no matter what evidence was presented you did cling to Guns and Religion. It was stated plainly many times in those posts that Obama was Muslim(terrorist) and going to take away your guns. I guess the old saying is appropriate. If the shoe fits, wear it.

I really hadn't posted on the subject of the thread. First, the attacks on Mach were way out of line, even for off topic posting. The first thing that came to my mind is what the reaction would have been if he had posted that he was sending every dime he could to help his Brother. I'm sure the response would have been how unamerican he was for sending money to another country to support it instead of keeping it here.

Mach, I wish your brother the best. I have been going through a similar experience with my cousin, who is as close as my bros. are too me. It's been over a year now. Because of Bureaucracy and having stopped working to take care of his sick and elderly parents, he had no medical insurance. He's originally went into the emergency room and was in the hospital for about a week until they realized he had no insurance or means to pay privately. He was then discharged and told to go to the county hospital. Long story short. He was on a catheter for 9 months while they tested for cancer and everything else. He finally had surgery(laser thank god) to remove a blockage. He is off the catheter but the infection recurred so they are back to testing for cancer again. There are a lot of ups and downs, diagnosing the problem is anything but scentific, it's closer to playing the game operation, hit and miss.

Stay strong.

IMO, don't listen to the local doc.

Get a second or third opinion.

It is worth your life to get to the nearest Cancer Treatment Center Of America.

I know two people that are now "cancer free" for going there.

I wish that was an option but there aren't any in this area and no funds. There have been 3 opinions already but none of them agree. Life in the big city, you play the hand you are dealt.

Thanks, Peaser. I appreciate it. One does what one can and that is why my heart goes out to Mach. Maybe not the only reason but I truly understand.

Peaser, How are you doing? Weren't you ill a while back? Or am I confusing you with someone else. I'm thinking it was about a year maybe year and half ago.

Ty Peaser. It's appreciated. Her Bday is coming up on Dec. 24th. Since her death I'm not a holiday person anymore considering her bday is on Xmas Eve.

Anyways what does Cancer Centers of America do that is different then conventional medical centers? I'm just curious for if I ever find myself in a situation that I have cancer.

I read this today, it was interesting and I plan to get his book:

http://www.aolhealth.com/condition-center/cancer/food-cures-healing?icid=2001001 25x1214185736x1200917869

The book:

I hope Wally reads these two links to show his cousin. Might help him and others.

yw Mach.

CTCOA does just that Mach, they attack cancer from all angles.

That is partly what turned me on to USANA, as they produce the highest-end nutritional supps(vitamins+minerals) on the market, aimed at combatting free-radicals + cell degeneration. The founder, Dr. Myron Wentz, is a pretty remarkable man.

I have heard about them for years but for some reason I never hear doctors praising them or recommending them...

Thanks Mach, for the links. The problem my cousin has is that after a year there is still no diagnosis. We don't know if he has cancer or not. The good thing is that even at age 69 he is open to alternative's to western medicine. He has friends that have led him to acupuncture and I know he has tried some dietary supplements.

The prostrate is something that all of us men need to be concerned about, especially as we get older.

I want to also thank everyone who has provided links and possible solutions. I do appreciate it.

The main problem I have with docs is that the majority don't believe in healing unless a drug is involved, as "only drugs can be cures" according to the FDA.

The body needs a lot of supplements that are lacking in many home grown foods today. A healthy diet isn't enough these days. As the soil has been depleted over the years, so has the nutrients in our food supply.
