I think I'm gonna watch the Jets v Dolphins just because of the drama. Curious to see how Favre does with a new team, facing that same team's previous QB.

Posted by jordanreed on :

same here...touchdown, Farve!!

Posted by Highwaychild on :

Just glad football is finally back!

Looks like Favre is fairing pretty well,
guess he didn't forget to pack his game when he moved.

Brady is out...Chiefs popped his left knee.

Actually ended up being a very close game. I think Favre should do well with the Jets. And I was impressed by how improved the Dolphins were over last year.

Posted by CashCowMoo on :

Well, my team lost as expected. They blew it big time in the 4th. KC loses to New England

Posted by T e x on :

Good games today. Hated Romo's interception, but it was a comfortable win.

What a comeback for the Panthers...

What a come back for you, good to see you're still with us Tex.

Gotta like what you got out of Marion Barber and Felix Jones today...Gonna be some great games in the NFC East this year...

Posted by T e x on :

Ya, Highway...thanks. Good to be around.

Hey, HV...yeah, man, that Barber is exciting, and Jones looks to be a valuable addition.

Too bad about Brady.

I haven't heard whether Barber is hurt bad.

Tex???!!!! So good to read your writings!

Hugs to you Sir Tex! Glad you're coming around!

Tom Brady is out for the SEASON! WOW

Posted by The Bigfoot on :

Ya dude,

His back up looks capable but Pats chance at the ring this year just dropped bigtime. Along with the hopes of many Fantasy players who lost a first round pick on him.

If news on Barber doesn't come out tomorrow assume the worst. I never like it when coaches don't talk. Tex...if your boys continue to play like they did yesterday you are looking at a good postseason.

Did you see Delhommes last drive? Chargers gave that game away.

Posted by cottonjim on :

I'll be glued to the tube toninght for the Vikes/Pack game, should be a good one. Jared Allen and the Williams have been doing a fair amount of trash talking about the Pack, Pack just says they'll do their talking on the field. Should be a good game.

Posted by Highwaychild on :

23 year old Matt Ryan's first NFL pass was for a 60+ yard TD! That was pretty cool...

Yeah, the Pack/Vikes should be a good one. Division rivals, Allen/Williams, Peterson...
But, all eyes will be on Arron Rodgers. Can he fill the shoes?

Posted by The Bigfoot on :

Rodgers is gonna be just fine. He's been Farve's understudy for three years after all. What I wanna know if the Vikes have figured out how to throw the ball yet.

If they can they will be the kings of the north this year.

Posted by The Bigfoot on :

As much as I think the Vikes can and should rule the North wouldn't it be awesome to see Jets vs Packers at the Bowl?

Games about to start.

Posted by The Bigfoot on :

What do you know...End of 1st Quarter and the Vikes have a total of 1 completed pass for 9 yards.

Grrr

Posted by T e x on :

Packers just hit a 56-yard pass...

Posted by T e x on :

wow...Pack drives 62 yards in 5 plays. 7-3, Pack

Posted by The Bigfoot on :

Geez

3 Defensive fouls in a row against the Vikes. 3 1st downs in a row for the Pack. If Rodgers hadn't been able to make that work I would have had to change my mind about Rodgers.

Posted by Happy Valley on :

Rodgers looks good...Nice to see a guy who quietly waits for his turn make the most out of his Monday night debut...

Posted by The Bigfoot on :

76 yard punt return TD? Are you serious???

Posted by The Bigfoot on :

There you go, T-Jack to Rice for 23 and TD! That's what we need to see.

8/21 completion rate won't win games.

Posted by The Bigfoot on :

Holy 57 yard run by Grant, Batman!

Well. Looks like Vikes go 0-5 in Lambeau for Childress.

Rodgers and the Pack did great. T-Jack needs to find the air. Until then the Vikes are a .500 team.

Posted by jordanreed on :

gotta work out the bugs, but I see our vikes doing pretty well this season...great running game, defense, and T jack looks good. just gotta elim the little miscues.

Posted by Highwaychild on :

Broncos, next Superbowl champs! ...as long as we get to play the Raiders every week.

Posted by Happy Valley on :

Denver goes for 2 and the win with less than 30 seconds left in the game...Chargers have a chance at the end but Chambers can't get two feet in bounds to set Kaeding up for a long field goal opportunity...Denver 39 San Diego 38...What a game!!!

Posted by Highwaychild on :

Cutler tried his best to give it away, didn't he?
Int then a fumble that the whistle blew dead, all between the Chargers charging with a late T.D.... What a CRAZY GAME!
My heart can't take many of them kinds a games!

I'm not gonna jump on the bandwagon .. thats the kiss of death...but, this week they did good.Ferrotte should of been qb all year

I agree Mach, but WOW!!! That Pats D was hammered! I am just so surprised. I mean I understand the offense lacking without Brady, but it is the same defense..

i'm going to have to file a compaint with my bookie...

i want points here in the rural communities too , this is just unfair as heck.

I wouldn't take the Jets. San Diego is a good team. Rivers has about twice as many passing yards as Farve, T.D.'s too. and they're at home, and Sproles ain't bad, and Sportsline has Chargers winning with a 73% score. BUT, Jets D looks alot tighter than the Chargers.

I say... Chargers 34, Jets 20

Posted by Highwaychild on :

MNF crue picked the Chargers 6-2.
America voted 49 states to 1, Chargers .

But MAN I hope The Chargers go down. Them Broncos would be sitting pretty!

This is the week for your Jets bet... J.E.T.S... JETS, JETS, JETS!

Posted by Machiavelli on :

I haven't decided on that game yet but I have made some picks/bets already... just a couple more games and im done choosing for this weekend.. i really need to explore college football for betting though... i don't know much about it... might concentrate on the NE conference...

I will say I don't like the pointspread for the Jets game.. it's only a 1 point spread... no room for betting either team... and pretty much the opinon of the bookies is it's a even game and can go either way... at least if the pointspread was higher i could bet on the dogs and hedge my bet because the dogs can lose as long as they lose by less then the spread or win the game outright for me to win the bet... but betting the favorites they have to win the game and win by more then the pointspread... only one way to win with the favorites and 2 ways with the dogs... with 1 point spread i can't even bet the dogs to win to win in 2 ways...

Posted by Highwaychild on :

I admit, the Jets/Cards game wouldn't be my first pick. But,

Accuscore gave the Jets a 58% chance to win.
Jets are at home.
The Cards are a far cry from the Chargers team that whopped 'em last week.
I kinda like the -1's, especially the home favorite not having to cover much.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------
Another one with a close spread is the battle of the Bays, Green and Tampa.

Accuscore gave the road dog Packers(+1.5) a 55% chance to win.
Their rushing/passing is about even, but I like Rodgers over Griese.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------
I like Cincy(-3.5) after the way the hung with the G-Men...

Posted by Pagan on :

From what I saw on ESPN's website this morning, Favre is still questionable to play. Who is the back-up QB for the Jets now?

Posted by Machiavelli on :

Yah, i understand. But if Favre's boys don't protect him like the disaster with the Chargers then the Cards have a good chance. And you better believe that the Cards coaches probably studied the Jets/Chargers game to take advantage of the Jets weaknesses. And like I said, the pointspread is only 1 because the bookies and such see it as a even game that can go either way. The only bet on this one is on the favorites really because the Dogs only have one way to win the bet and that is to win the game. There is no way for them to lose the game and be under the pointspread other then a tie game which is highly unlikely or to lose by exactly 1 point which would then make the bet a push and i would get my money back without winning anything. Another highly unlikely though it has happened to me before. It happened to me the 2nd week of this season though i forget which game it was.

We should beat them by 2-3 TDs...

What a huge game for him. I was very happy to see him set a new career high for himself. The man still has awesome QB skills.

Should be a good game tonight. Still analyzing it...

Posted by Highwaychild on :

Willie Parker is out, Ray Lewis is in. Though the injury list is longer for Baltimore, Pittsburgh's is more key.
Ravens had basically a bye week and a game to get back in rhythm.
Anything can happen with division rivals, just ask Dallas.

Upset special on the road...
I say----------------------Ravens 27, Steelers 23

Miami + 6

KC + 9 1/2

Dallas played lousy...ugly win.

I've had to realize Romo is slightly better than average. Next sloppy error, he needs to be benched.

Posted by The Bigfoot on :

What? Tex...are you feeling alright? Yes, Romo is sloppy but he's the reason the boys are where they are.

You ask me the reason the last two games have been sucky is cause Barber hasn't been able to break loose. When Barber is moving the chains everything clicks.

Romo's OK...but he's not the worldbeater he seemed to be when he took over from Bledsoe. Too many sloppy mistakes.

Mach,
It seems safe to say TO must have some sort of disorder. He plays hard and hustles, though...hardly the ticking time-bomb he's made out to be in some quarters.

I still gotta disagree with ya Tex.

Romo is ranked #4 right now under Farve, Rivers, and Warner for 2008. All three have 4 interceptions where Romo has 5. The only one beating him in TD's is Farve (thanks to his 6 TD game)

Another couple games and he will pass Warner and Rivers. Warner is over him because of completion percentage of 69.4 (vs 64.2). Rivers is over him because of yards per pass average of 8.6 (vs 8.4).

I agree that the shine of Romo has tarnished a bit but he is still legitimately the #2 QB in the league (maybe #3 if we add Brady to the equation).

Who do you consider the #1 QB currently?

Posted by The Bigfoot on :

Depends on what your standards are but just talking 2008 I'd agree with nfl.com and say Farve has performed the best so far this year.
Romo, Brees, and little Manning are the number 2 contenders in my book.

Oops! Brees...why wasn't he in the nfl stats?

Yup...Brees is also ahead of Romo statistically right now. 4 Int, 72.3 completion avg., 9.1 yard avg., 8 TD's.

Big,
Stats aren't everything though IMO. It just seems like some QB's have a nose for the game and can win. Even with bad stats.

You can't overlook Cutler... Jay Jay is DY-NA-MITE!

Jason Campbell--no INTs and his 'skins beat the Boyzzz. That's steady play...

Posted by The Bigfoot on :

Cutler has been great this year but that game against KC? 2 INT, 1 Fumble, and a 59.2 pass completion? Against KC? He'll end on the upper third of the board but not at the top.

Skins have been looking sharp after that first game and I'll admit that the Skins could take the division away from both the Boys and the Giants, but Campbell just doesn't have the air game to be called best QB. He's already 6 TD's behind the league leader.

Posted by Highwaychild on :

Cutler has been great this year but that game against KC?

-Yeah, but with KC it was a game against big division rival, and it was on the road. He still should of played a better game than he did.
Broncos should be 5-0 right now.

...Never thought I'd say it, but Kerry Collins has to be on the list. The only QB that's 5-0.

ESPN says Romo is out 4 weeks with a broken pinkie on his throwing hand. That means Brad Johnson is now the starter. Maybe the change will light a fire?

Posted by The Bigfoot on :

Tex, you are about to see what the Boys are like without Romo at the helm. Not gonna be pretty.

The Cowboy O-line was horrible, including a certain Flozell Somebody. Romo is not the living legend he seemed at first--but then, it ain't gonna matter: half the team is hurt, now...

If I'm Jerry, I write off '08, fire the special teams coach and whoever's got Romo thinking he's got to play like "a real quarterback." He was doing fine with his lil sandlot style, and he's not gonna last that long, anyway. Now he's ruin't... I expect Brad to at least protect the dang ball.

Posted by T e x on :

That's not an issue in Dallas--at least, not yet.

They'd have to be better for one thing; for another, we don't really have any superstars. Romo and TO have some nice numbers, but they'd have to achieve more to be "super" stars...

Apparently, dallas could take lessons from Bellicheater's Pats--they've shut down the Broncos tonight and seem to be in an upswing, as opposed to the melt-down crisis at Valley Ranch.

Posted by The Bigfoot on :

Just remember the Pats suffered horribly at the hands of the Fish while learning how to live without Brady. Luckily the Boys don't need to take it that far. Bradley just has to get to the bye. He might be able to take the Buc's but the Giants are a lost cause already.

Anyone watching the Jets and Chiefs? The Chiefs are actually playing well for once and giving the Jets and ol Brett a run for the money.

Those Jets cheerleaders sure are sexy!

Posted by The Bigfoot on :

Oh yeah.

It's a good game. Much better than the Dallas/TB game.

I'm surprised that the Jets haven't been running more than they are. It's working, but I thought it was a rule...when you play against the Chiefs you run 'em into the ground.

Posted by T e x on :

gosh...I thought the Dallas/TB game was purdy good.

No turnovers, Roy Wiliams makes a nice TD catch--and the defense woke up.

Posted by glassman on :

i dunno Tex, the only reason Williams got to make that catch was alot of penalties by TB...

a win is a win tho... good day for the NFC E tho...

i can't beleive the Steelers gave that game away...

Posted by T e x on :

yeah, well, maybe it's time for some boneheadness on the *other* team's part, for a change. But, ya, I was well aware of the TB penalties. Still, I'm happy to see Odessa, TX Roy Williams getting his first TD as a Cowboy--the timing was pretty good, even though it *was* a size mismatch.

Steelers? Still not sure how that slipped away... toughly fought game, though.

Sounds like the Skins did what they were supposed to do & I guess Philly won ??? didn't follow

Posted by glassman on :

yep, philly won too...

next week the DaBoyz better bring their A-game...

should be a good defensive show...

this is one game i'll be rooting for them...

any chance Romo will be back early?

Posted by T e x on :

so, it was a good day for the NFC East...

defensive show? To tell the truth, I don't think the Boyz have an A-game at this point. B+...maybe.

Romo? doubt it, muchly. Reasoning is 5-4 doesn't kill us for a Wild Card berth (and we may now have tie-breaker with Tampa Bay) but w/o Romo on the back side...well, we may as well start looking to '09. Pretty grim, here, with all the injuries.

Jets over Bills
Dolphins over Broncos
Bears over Lions (when does Culpepper start?)
Jags over Bengals
Ravens over Browns
Titans over Packers
Bucs over Chiefs
Cards over Rams
Vikes over Texans
Falcons over raiders
Giants over Da'Boys
Eagles over Seahawks

They still might have a shot at the playoffs this year via wildcard. But if they get manhandled by the G-men, the chances of a playoff run are dim IMO.

1 pick + 1 fumble recovery, both leading to scores.

Now if only the offense could get going.

Did anyone watch the Dolphins v Broncos? The Dolphin D absolutely owned the Broncs. They had like 10 yards rushing the entire game. Da Phish will be contenders next year IMO. Especially with the Patriots and Colts declining.

PS: if Da Phish keep up this pace, they should be wild card contender's this year.

I don't "like" Dallas at all, in the sense of pulling anything out of the fire. They were bad with Romo, and they're still bad. No O-line, obviously, but more than that...no fire, no drive, no passion. Jenkins' passing up a shot on a TD-saving tackle says it all...

Flozell Adams is done. Jenkins should've been sent to the showers after the play I mentioned. It's a complete and utter meltdown.

I completely agree. He should face disciplinary action too! Seemed like nearly the entire team had decided they were gonna lose this one before the game even started.

Wins:

Atlanta 3EV
Philadelphia - 6 1/2
Jets + 5
Detroit + 12 1/2
Giants - 8 1/2
New England + 6

Losses:

Houston + 4 1/2
Tennesse - 4

is it possible the skins and the cowboys can both get wildcards?

last year the giants and the skins got 'em..

daboyz still have the giants and pittsburgh in pitt..

the skins still have the giants and baltimore.

i don't expect it, but the giants could end up losing 2 of their next three.. (they also play philly)

the Giants have had so many lucky breaks this season that any game could be differnt.

that Cardinal (Brown?) that didn't catch the onside kick yesterday was pure Giant luck... it went right thru his hands and nobody touched him till well after he missed it...

I'm rooting for the Saints for two reasons.

SD got rid of a good QB, and so did GB.

I enjoyed watching SD play until they pulled that move.

I root for the Saints due to this reasoning.

eh, I was kind of ready.

I saw Houston beat them Jags with their 7th, or 8th string QB's. I missed when their punter even passed one I see in the box score.

As a Bronco fan I'd say I was a tad gratified when the Jets opted for a pass play on those running downs... In Farve we trust...j/k around

Surprised they won really, also surprised how well Peyton Hillis ran...
But, right now, looks like both of us will be ready for them Titans when the playoffs come around.

lol, no more than usual...Romo and Witten are both pretty well banged up. Judging from the game with the Giants, I'm not giving much weight to all the hoop-la-la: sportswriters who are normally about as biased as they can be get a hold of rumors like this and suddenly turn into "journalists" who a have a "duty." So Julius Jones didn't make it. Whoopi...

Jerry Jones loves the controversy. Whatever gets the media talkin' 'bout 'dem cowboys is all that matters. It sells.

Remember Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders, Leon Lett, Keyshawn Johnson(who didn't pan out), etc...

Now we have Adam "Pac-Man" Jones, and T.O.

So what has changed?

Jones wants the controversy. When Jones got the Romo and Simpson controversy, it was an unexpected bonus.

The last 4 games he has 1 TD and 7 INT's. He's starting to look his age. IMO, he should not have come back this year.

Favre threw a few bad passes along with his receivers dropping ball that bounced off of or went through their hands.

Hopefully Favre sticks around for another year.

The Eagles might be a team to reckon with in the playoffs...

Since McNabb was benched a few games ago, the team has done a 180 degree turnaround. They might just be the team to beat.

Yea, he seems to be a smaller, quicker version of Brian Westbrook. It will just be a question of whether his body can endure a full season as an every down RB. I'm sure there will be teams willing to gamble on that issue.

I'm picking the Ravens over Titans. And The Cardinals over Panthers. I know, they are both underdogs. But Warner for the Cards has had a great season passing, and after seeing the Ravens devastate the Dolphins offense last week, I gotta go with the Ravens in their game.

Yea, the Cards are a terrible road team. Especially when visiting the East coast. I just think maybe Warner has some magic left in that arm. Plus he has 3 1,000yard receivers to throw to. And Edge James looked good last week. But it's still a coin toss I guess.

Ravens' McGahee home, complete recovery expected

By DAVID GINSBURG – 1 hour ago

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — Ravens running back Willis McGahee is expected to make a "complete recovery" from a fierce helmet-to-helmet hit in the AFC championship game that saw him carted off the field.

McGahee returned to his Baltimore home Monday after spending the night in a Pittsburgh hospital recovering from Sunday's collision with Steelers safety Ryan Clark.

The play occurred in the fourth quarter of Pittsburgh's 23-14 victory, and McGahee was carted from the field on a stretcher.

"It is expected that Willis will have a complete recovery from the head and neck injuries he suffered last night," Ravens spokesman Kevin Byrne said Monday.

Although McGahee had significant neck pain, he had movement in his arms and legs after the hit. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital and held overnight for observation. He was released early Monday morning and back home by early afternoon.
