for those Pink Floyd fans, one of the founding members died, gilmore replaced him. btw, i recognize that his death is small compared to the bombing in india today, but it is nontheless significiant to music fans. he got too crazy too quick, even for rock !

yes, it was Syd, i always thought they wrote Shine on You Crazy Diamond about him....
Roger Waters says no...

Syd went to one too many Syd parties in London they say... back in the days when it was common to spike the punch and not tell anybody....

surprise [Eek!]

i don't think we had wireless mikes then...

it was before i saw U2 at Ritchie Coliseum in 1983 (2000 seats) and Bono didn't have a wireless mike for that...he had really long cord on his mike and went into the audience tho...
that was their last non-stadium tour...

saw Offspring on their last smalltime tour too..

300 people.... the Boathouse in Va Beach....

Memorable Quotes from
Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii (1972) Quotes: David Gilmour: Most people think of us as a very drug oriented group. Of course we're not. You can trust us.

floyd is a kick-a$$ band. i love the wall movie it was on vh-1 about 2 months ago, i found it by accident and everything stopped until it was over. crusing in a vert at night with the top down cranking floyd - it doesn't get any better.
sorry about the misspelled name i discovered it too late to edit. great loss for rock misic fans !

heehee, went to a Dead concert1978......
guy with crutches holding mike up in the air... maybe 40 or 50 mikes that i could see without even trying to look for them....
nobody cared i guess.... about anything LOL

the dead were great too. they could cover anything. jerry garcia was the greatest. another irreplacable loss when he died.

always lots of wacky tobaccie at their concerts. glassman was right - nobody cared and you had to be in the right mood.

i never saw the Phish...
i hear they were good at covering too...

out on the road today
i saw a dead head sticker on a cadillac
little voice inside my head said
don't look back you can never go back...

You can't go back, but you can remember the good times you had in the past.
I've always hated those lyrics from Don? Who cares. He wrote that during a time when the Dead were the highest grossing band the mid eighties and they were doing some great music.
200 Dead shows
20 Pink Floyd shows
James Brown,ZZ Top,Dylan,Neil Young,Jefferson Airplane,Iron Butterfly,Phish,Little Feat, and even Liza,,Kenny Rodgers, and Neil Diamond were great performers as well as too many others to list,18 years of Jazzfest gives me a HUGE list.
I have over 100 live concerts on cd and I'm
still taping and finding great music everywhere, mostly in New Orleans, New York, CA.

Back to Syd,
He was a pioneer during that trippy time, who had a profound impact in my early music years, eventually he just wanted to be left alone.Right now while writing this I'm listening to Jugband blues on LP! Thanks Syd! You will be missed. I heard he showed up one day in the studio during the Wish You Yere Here sessions and said "I'm here just to do my part." Nobody there at that the time knew who he was so he just walked out, maybe because of the bald head and added girth?

"I'm awfully considerate of you to think of me here.
And I'm much obliged to you for making it clear
That I'm not here."

Syd Barrett 1968

as voodoo correctly pointed out, weren't we lucky to have so many great bands and concerts to go to during the 70's and 80s's and even now ? many great talents and unique styles. i was surprised when i found out floyd started in 1965, i would have incorrectly guessed around 1970.

Jefferson Airplane-----------> 67 concert San Fran!

Posted by 66inxs on :

all of the greats made that scene. even the concert posters from that era were great and highly collectable too. btw, don't forget that us eastcoasters had woodstock in 1969 ! at least we got in on a little bit of the action.

Syd being able to stay with Pink Floyd would have been like if Jodorowski could have gotten to make Dune.

It was sad to hear of his passing. But his band mates said long ago in "Shine on You Crazy Diamond," the song they wrote after Syd came into one of their recording sets. Gilmore said it was quite eerie because he was there but his eyes told them the person he had been was gone too.

That's what generated that lyric about eyes in the song that's skipping my mind right now.
