If you're pushing a reciever (or even toucching him) while the ball is in the air, wheteher or not you are looking back (halfheartedly and only after you have already grabbed him), and the reciever is over 5 yards beyond the line of scrimage, the rules say it is interference.

yes, and if your a defender with your head up looking for the ball, not touching the receiver, and the receiver grabs your shoulder. at this point ther receiver has no right to touch defender either.

you need to see the whole replay not the snipit where they're jousting

wow another turnover...

Posted by Highwaychild on :

Got it on DVR, seen it. #22 elbowed the Bronco.

Looks like for Denver, it's time to make the doughnuts!

pats are done, and broncos didn't look very good.

I hate indy so come on pitt. can't see denver beating anyone on the road.

The call was because the defender pused the reciever so that he couldn't reach the ball, i.e., interference. There is no rule declaring that a defender is absolved of interference if he looks bacward as he commits the foul. If you impede the opportunity of the reciever (or the defender) to reach or catch the ball, it's interference.

the
DEFENDER was in front of him running with head up. He was grabbed from behind, the rules are the same for both sides.
the call was wrong, even the official kissing butt play by play guys won't say it was pass interference.

Posted by Highwaychild on :

It WAS pass interference. Listening to Phill Simms doesn't make it, not pass interference. Just because you look at the ball, doesn't say you can elwbow him out of bounds.

Besides it's 27-13 Broncos! That one play don't make the game, Broncos kicked a$$!LOL

Posted by keithsan on :

PATS SUCKED AS AS Bad As I've seen them. Even this year with the injuries they didn't screw up like tonight.Oh Well

I hate indy and pitt. indy the most, boy i hate that manning piece of dirt.

I think Denver had bad rushing yards and passing yards tonight compared to the pats so I don't see them beating anyone.

I did want Pitt Vs. Pats so I could go to the game but thats out.

think I'll root for some people getting hit hard..(as I type this they announce that some guy from indy stabbed by wife. LOL)

How about the Denver defense, how'd they play?

LOL. watch again. no touching after 5 yards, denver guy grabbed him to slow him down. (i actually think nothing should be called, i like jousting) but saying the pats guy stopped him from making the catch and they deserved it at the 1 is silly.

I think the pats sucked more than the broncos kicked ass but good luck, i think shanahan is a great coach. and would rather they win than anyone else in afc.

not very good. until given the lead.. then better but. none of the fumbles were caused by bone crushing hits, they were stupid ass one hand carying into trouble.

I have to say, Tom Brady is lucky he has Deion Branch, one hell of a WR, ...from LOUISVILLE!(as Chris Berman, and Tom Jackson would say)lol

call was right--even though they may have guessed at it...
used his hip, then arm, then stiff-arm as legs keep moving: basically an aikido move that defensive backs are taught, how to disrupt the receiver with minimal "review" exposure...this time, he got caught...

Champ Bailey, MVP...what a nice "torque" motion to get into position--even though he looked like Leon Lett getting punk'd by Don Beebe at the end of the play...great challange by Bellicek on that one...40:60 he gets a touchback....

Good game...

Good game...

wrong on the call. your still on the jousting.

If you watch, defender is running down field 2 steps ahead, they only collide and joust (which should be allowed) after the receiver pulls his shoulder.

I wont even bitch about bailey (great interception) but your a smart man tell me the logical probabilities that a guy running forward on the one yard line, with a guy running at him forward but at an angle collide and the ball goes dirrectly sideways. hmmmm sounds almost impossible but didnt cause the game.

on a pass, both defender and receiver have the right to the ball and they can kill each other as long as they do not do it on purpose. ie.they are running/diving/jumping for ball

LOL, yep intercepted in endzone. AFTER DRIving,(you proud of that) 5 turnovers and you barely win by 2 scores. I like denver but not a kick ass performance by them

Posted by BuyTex on :

this is the intereference call?

ya, "right to the ball," but defender was not playing the ball...he was maneuvering the receiver...don't blame him, though, it's likely a TD otherwise, and he *might not* have gotten called...that's one of the toughest judgments to make, even on replay. But, ya, I'm the receiver? You can't impede or harass me beyond the free zone at scrimmage line...

oh, you mean the challenge? I'd have to see that one again, with the views the ref was seeing...looked outta bounds to me, but it *was* a smart chellenge...

yes they do.

thats why i worry about Denver, they didn't stop the pass, Champs interception was in the endzone.

I would rather denver win than any of the 3 but, the pats drove up and down the field, you can't expect 6 turnovers every game.

I'm appalled at how the pats looked todya

It's going to be awfully hard for me to bet on the Bears. I don't know if I'd want to win. Might take the under.

You never know... One really hard hit on Manning, or some ints., then what does Indy have? Broncos are #2 stopping the run. You live by passing, you die by the passing.

tex, the colts are dancing that the pats got bumped.

weren't the colts the best offense ever last year, they scored 3 against the pats. Manning is a joke.

I had these same arguments last year. This year I'm worried about the d's they play, I think pitt has a better chance than denver. Although, indy won't stop the denver run like the pats did.

Remember, Peyton has done as much as that guy from miami, i forget his name but he won ****.

thats the thing, denver had no d. today.

what denver does have is a great run and indy's D sux. thats the key next week. unless indy also implodes.

Otherwise, it dudn't matter about the D--they outscore you...

remember, without turnovers you have 0 points.

if you look at that call we discused earlier watch the ref that makes the call. (not they guy on the play) some guy from across the field and late. that being said. the pats sucked and denver is probably gone next week.

LOL your proud of that game defensively?

keith, we actually agree--earlier in the season, I responded that the Pats were the only ones who could Indy in the playoffs. It takes *team ball* to stop them, and who has been better than the PATS at total, team-ball the past few years? Nobody. Unfortunately, it's falling apart for them, like other post-parity teams...a good "signal" was that great kicker's missing his shot when it still mattered...think of the clutch plays he's made during their great run...

I agree Tex, it'll be hard for Denver at the Borgs' home turf. I know, I've seen a Denver/ Indy game back when Romo was still playing, Terrell Davis' last season, And it's LOUD in there.

LOL last year payton was the best, this year brady. and tonight he sucked.

so maybe peyton will actually be good in the playoffs this year, but i doubt it. he's a $hit version of marino.

but hey. you like him.....

Posted by Highwaychild on :

If tonight the Broncos held "the best" QB statistically to ONLY 13 points, then what will Denver do to the 7th rated QB, Manning?

Ben Roethlisberger is 21st.

12th, Jake Plummer. Not to be confused with... Land Shark!

Posted by BuyTex on :

don't forget, Broncos barely beat the Cowgrlllzz, who *did* beat Carolina, and were one decent kicker from beating the S'Hawks

Just think it's AFC, all the way this year...and on performance/record...you can't discount Indy, as long ROBO-QB don't get knocked out

Shanahan should get some kinda damm award for Plummer's "turnaround"

Denver looked okay last night. It should be a real barn-burner next week against, dare I say it? Indy.

Indy should smoke Pitt today.

Tension mounts, lol... Ruthlessburger, Fast Willy and da Bus seeking revenge and a shot at the Broncs. . . against Manning and The Borg, who think they can go all t h e W A Y !!!

Peyton might just finally get that ring now that his nemesis NE is done. That's been his stumbling block the past (I believe) three years.

Posted by keithsan on :

Cowher coaches like crap. they've had some good teams the past few years and they always find a way to lose. then again so does manning, usually not the coaches fault tho dungy not too bad

Dungy has finally developed a "solid" Defense in Indy. Well, more solid than the previous few decades anyway. Big Ben just tore 'em up on the first drive of the day.

Posted by Peaser01 on :

Turnover #1 There's that Indy Defense.

Posted by Peaser01 on :

Peyton is playing like garbage so far. Indy's D better create more turnovers or else Indy will be done.

colts are r-u-s-t-y on offense...

They better find the W-D - 4-0 before halftime.

Unbelievable catch by Marvin.

1st Colts completion of the game.

Posted by keithsan on :

manning sucking the house as usuall in big games or against decent teams.

d's not that good either, weakest schedule in the league this year.

Posted by BuyTex on :

The "bang" theory in action...stymie the brain of da Borg...

Posted by Peaser01 on :

I hope that Indy can get another 1st down, Manning appears to be choking again. If the score is 14-7 at halftime, I believe that Indy wins.

14-0, and stick a fork in Indy.

Posted by Peaser01 on :

The Edge is loose! Here we go, we've got ourselves a ball game finally. He's gonna get another 100+ yarder against Pitt. The only back to do it all year.

Posted by Highwaychild on :

This is one awesome drive the Borg had there just for 3 points.
Started it at the Borgs own one yard line wasn't it?

Peaser01, Who do you think now, since the score is 14-3?

Posted by Peaser01 on :

14-3 Pittsburg at half.

Indy Wins. Pitt didn't do anything in the second quarter. Indy is just starting to find what works. The Edge is just getting started and Peyton should have a great second half. Indy D is starting to get settled down after the first few choreographed Pittsburg drives.

Posted by keithsan on :

LOL "greatest qb" "one of the top rushers" they'll choke again.

mannings in the playoffs this year 0-2

I think the FG was a mistake--shoulda gone for it, imo

Indy had the ball about the whole 2nd quarter.lol
Big Ben isn't known for losing games, but the Edge is going to open up alot of trouble for Pitt.
But, as for right now, the AFC championship game is looking like it could be played...
a mile high.

Finally! A touchdown! Too bad Indy's D still sucks. Peyton did a brave thing taking over on 4th down like that. He made the right call regardless, If they didn't score on this drive the game was over anyways.

Indy is going to win. What a miracle for Indy it's going to be. It only makes sense for Indy to win with the year that they've had, Dungy's son committing suicide after they won 13 straight games.

Indy should win it all this year.

ya, seems like their deal is defense...

OK, gonna get my soapbox out...

I always taught my teams to regard the refs as just another aspect of the game, like the "spinner" in those board games, where ya draw a "move-three-spaces-back" card: sometimes you get a good call, but don't count on it...As a former player and as a coach, I know the toughest job on the field is the ref's...

However, as fans watching a playoff game in the NF f'n L, I think we could expect a higher level of officiating: they called the Colts' defender for intereference, when his early contact made no difference on the play; yet they did *not* call the Steeler's interefering with a game-changing TD...but, hey, was that to make-up for the interception they robbed from Palomalo (sp?) ????? That one really bugs me--it's like the message is, "Hey, don't even try on the tough ones." What a display of athleticism he made...and clearly had control etc etc... I understand the changes they've had to make since old-school days--spearing, protect the QB etc re general violent mayhem--but to deny that superb interception shows contempt for the basis of sport...the display of elevated athletic skill.

If that's a "correct ruling," the rules have gone too far...

OK, my rant for the day...back to scheduled programming

The NFC is, the AFC is the Broncos for the taking!
I mean ofcourse they still have to play the game and all, but Denver is undefeated this year at home, #2 in the leauge in rushing this season, also #2 at stoping the run this season.

Also heard a rumor Elway may come out of retirement to play
if they make it to the Super Bowl.LOL (okay, I'M starting the rumor, lol)

Yeah, well if Carolina's defense allows the Bears? absolutely non-existant offense to score as many points and rack up the yards they did, what do you think a team that has a good offense like the Hawks have are gonna do to 'em? Oh, and the Bears defense....well thanks bears, you made me a cool grand on Sunday. Also, Carolinas one dimensional offense needs to find another dimension or two. Seattles DB's are too good to only have one guy to throw to. They only way I'll bet against the Hawks is if the spread gets into double digits and as of this morning I think it was still just 5 1\2 points. Got a grand to burn.

Posted by LEO on :

Seahawks proved they have a multi-dimensional offense Sat. Shut down Smith, GTG superbowl!!

Posted by keithsan on :

Anyone hear Manning throw his offensive line under the bus. what a jag off, if he hit some open receivers and put up some points different story. LOL he'll stay a loser.

Brady didn't cry when he got smoked on that HUGE interception. Didn't see Big Ben crying when he took that helmet to his throwing arm getting smacked around by 3 guys.

Its part of the game. Big friggin baby.

too bad I don't have that Hi-Def box at Wake though, got the Hi-Def TV, but have yet to get the box

Time Warner has a pretty crappy selection of High Def channels IMO. Fox and CBS aren't even available! I get a kick out of the football games that are broadcasted in High Def on those channels. It's too bad TW don't have have those channels in High Def.

Cable is overpriced anyhow.

We have like 5 or so HiDef Channels. TNT, Discovery Channel, and ESPN are my favs. We get ABC, and NBC as well.

I've talked to Doc, a while back, fine person. I like the Steelers just fine, if they aren't playing the Broncos.lol

Do you know how much steel a Bronco can drag down the field?

Alexander was on the news today claiming he was sick before the game and was on some sort of medication, and that he didn't have a concussion that he was already feeling dizzy prior to being hit. Holmgren was stating that it didn't look like Alexander had a concussion that he had seen worse. We shall see on Sunday, I'm still not ruling a Seahawks choke fest, just got a strong feeling their gonna win.

Super Bowl:

Steelers v. Panthers

Both games today should be barnburners. I'd still like to see the 6th seed Steelers vs. the 5th seed Panthers. It would be the lowest seeds to ever meet each other in the Super Bowl.

To everyone who thought Carolina was gonna beat Seattle. Well, they didn't even cover the spread. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha, anyway, I just hope everyone keeps talking about how bad Seattle is gonna lose in the Superbowl. Gonna be lots of Ex-NFL QB's eatin crow sandwiches for the next two weeks. By the way, smith's what 30 yards or so was impressive, but not as impressive as his fumble on the last play. I knew I should've taken the field level passes I was offered. And where was the highly vaunted North Carolina Defense that was gonna shut The league MVP down at today? Well, they did hold him to only 129 yards and two TD's.

Super Bowl Countdown

For the past few years, my son and I work up a coupla poster boards' full of proposition bets that we post at the local joint; 10 bucks a head, winner(s) take all; that is, any who tie split the pot. Here's our questions this year, if ya wanna play along or use in your area:

  1. Which team wins coin toss?
  2. Which receives?
  3. Which gets first 1st down?
  4. Does either team score on its opening drive?
  5. Which team completes first pass?
  6. Which scores first?
  7. Which commits first penalty?
  8. Which uses first challenge?
  9. Will either team score in last two minutes of first half?
  10. Which has most first downs in the first half?
  11. Which team completes most passes in the first half?
  12. Which team commits (loses) the first turnover?
  13. Does either get 2 consecutive scores? (TD, FG, Safety--*not* PAT)
  14. Does either defense score?
  15. Which teams makes more field goals?
  16. Team with longest play from scrimmage?
  17. More interceptions, or lost fumbles?
  18. More passing yard--Ben or Matt?
  19. More passing completions--SEA or PITT?
  20. More rushing yards--SEA or PITT?
  21. Which player wins MVP?
  22. Does team who scores last win the game?
  23. Which team gets more sacks?
  24. Game goes to overtime?
  25. WHO WINS !?!?!!!!

It's pretty fun; every year, more peeps sign up...

I have Todd Heap in my fantasy league. THe first TD to him that they nullified for offensive pass interference was a TERRIBLE call by the refs. Then Boller hit him right in the chest and he missed it. I ended up winning my fantasy ganme regardless, but that was indeed a crazy ending! Glad you came out on the plus side.

Daaaaa...Whos!
Yall gone and made 'em switch Q.B.s...
They're going with, Brian, "it ain't easy being" Griese.
As, Rex, "My game is just" Grossman, is on his way out.

Griese's a pretty good Q.B., just can't stay healthy. He was on a super bowl team in his rookie season, he got to learn under Elway in Denver.

That's true, he looks like a kid again out there. You know, they've got an above average defense, they're passing game is obviously clicking, if they could pick up a decent running back they might have a shot.

Ocho Cinco vs Randy Moss

Looking forward to the game tonight. Should be explosive!

Hey Tex, your boy Romo is winning me money. Tell him I appreciate it will ya?

lol, I just hope somebody puts a lil slow-down on Moss before we play 'em: Brady is dangerous enough on his own... & Moss has eaten da Boyz lunch in previous encounters. Still, for character, I agree with the Ellis pick

The thing is...they shouldn't even be thinking about stringing a bunch of Ws together... you know at some point Favre's young crew is gonna take it on the chin... BUT... once in the playoffs, they *might* just be real dangerous...tested, young, with a veteran leader.

You know, the first time I saw Romo in a real game (not pre-season) I told Tex Jr: "Boy, he sure reminds me of Favre." None of that "connection" was known then...or at least, not in the mainstream media, announcers' comments, etc... Don't think Romo's as tough as Favre, but he sure goes for it, like his "idol."

Wouldn't surprise me if NFC Championship game is Packers v Dallas...I guess that's possible, lol...I believe they'll both go to the playoffs, for sure. I *can* see where the Pack might wildcard in...but if they do make it, I believe they'll be dangerous.

I hope not for you guys, Da Bears are starting rough, Lions can't keep that up all year, and Minnesota, well their Minnesota...
but if they end up doing what the Brew-crew did this year, it'd suck pretty bad. I like old Corey Heart, if Capuano and the pitchers would have pulled their weight they'd been alright.

We'll I won 5 out of 7 bets this weekend not including monday's game because not sure if I'll bet that one or skip it yet. Anyways my wins and losses below on the regular pointspread:

Won

1. Baltimore -9
2. Cleveland - 4 1/2
3. Jacksonville - 6 1/2
4. New England - 5 1/2
5. New Orleans + 5 1/2

Lost

1. Chicago - 4 1/2
2. Oakland + 9 1/2

Posted by T e x on :

I think everybody lost Chicago...

another weird one was Seahawks v Saints--you hit 'em both...lol, who knows?

Posted by Machiavelli on :

We'll reason I picked New Orleans to cover the point spread was because they are in such a losing streak that they would be very motivated to win this game which in turn even if they lost the game they would of made it a close game in points thus covering the point spread of 5 1/2.

They needed to prove themselves in this game more then anything so they would try even harder then in the past 4 games. I guess I was right. I made a similar assumption with Miami I think last week or week before and won that bet as well.

The Chicago game was a bummer. But Chicago imo have always been an unreliable team at predicting sometimes with their QB's. But I lost the Chicago bet like everyone else. I expected them to cover the spread on such a team they played against.

The spread doesn't get affected once the game has started. No more bets are allowed when the game starts and the spread stays as is. I bet Oakland at +7 (had to win the game or lose by less then 7 pts) and they covered so I don't care who won or lost as long as they covered and they did... [Big Grin]

this says Denver has thrown 10, Green Bay 5. However, elsewhere I've read Favre has thrown 6, so I can't give a definitive answer other than Denver has thrown more, apparently.

I don't know the spread, but hedzup is as close to a lock as you can get...

And those were zoomed in from the nosebleeds

Man that game was a good time!
We tailgated right next to a chef, that brought his work to the game. He was handing out grilled steak burritos to everybody hot off the fire.
Kind of made my grilled chops look pretty lame.

My picks,
Titans-5 over Jags
Bills-3 over the fish on the road
Bears-3 1/2 over The RAID-ERSSSS( in my best Chris Berman voice) in the black hole!

Da Boyz! need to take care of bidness today...

We need some separation: like to see them at 6-3, and us at 8-1.

Posted by Highwaychild on :

They have the new helmet to helmet ejection rule starting today, they'll change some outcomes of the game.

Yeah, the G-Men, Boyz game will be a good one.
Pack, Vikes should be good too, Favres arm against Adrian Petersons 1036 yards., 8 TD, already...

is nice to be 8-1 with them now 6-3--even if Washington comes up with that freaky, sleepin'-wid-da-witches stuff, we got the tie-breaker. Important...especially in NFC East.

Can you imagine being 6-2 (before today) in NFC East--and you're in second place?

Speaking of...

was wondering earlier today...is there another division with as many Super Bowl winners?

Doubt they beat Dallas, but they could...look at Dallas v Buffalo. We can't play like that and expect to win. Look at Indy yesterday...anybody can have off days. I'm just glad Dallas' schedule includes Pats and da Pack...gotta have experience with salty teams to go anywhere in the playoffs...

I said to one old roommate "Why would they extend him the day before we lose by 72?" Guess I reversed jinxed it...

As for tonight's game... Geez, screw the Patriots. how could they win that game? Ugh.

Da Bears have been getting their moneys worth outta 'ol Devan Hester. He's ran it, returned punts/kicks, played receiver, they oughta put him in at quarterback... hell, he's played about everything else, and he can't do much worst than the QB's they've put in this year.

Give it time, you guys will be running him out of town on a rail. I remember back when Dan Devine took over the Packers, one of our worst coaches in history. Some of the lunatics in Green Bay hung his dog from a tree in his front lawn. I think that was the final straw that made Mr Devine say "screw this, these people are nuts." He left shortly thereafter.

Don't remember, that was back in the 70's. If memory serves me correctly, I think they shot the dog first then hung it in the tree. They're pretty serious about their football up there.

it think it's a function of the farm mentality.

i've never been around a better group of people than the folks i lived around in Nebraska,

they made their kids study hard and if they didn't turn in their assignments on time? they failed 'em...

just like a farmer has no options on when to plant up north...

down here in the south where i am now? everybody is laid back, they literally have months to decide when the right time to plant is, and if they get a bad start? they can often replant and still get their crops in...

historically/ up north? if you ain't gotcher root cellar full? you're dead...

dayown hyar? we still have farmers that plant collard and other greens on the edges of their feilds by the roads, and you can go pick fresh greens all winter for free, if you want...

No more serious than in Texas or Alabama or Pennsylvania or even in Georgia and look what they are willing to do to football freaks that mistreat dogs.

woof, the bears sure put the hurt on the pack, home field advantage may be a thing of the past.

And as usual it is just pitch and catch between Brady and the Pat's receiving core. Looks like a high school team playing against the Pat's. The fish don't have any answers, offense or defense.

Posted by Upside on :

The Pack looked good today didn't they? Man I wish I could believe in them but today they played like the Packers that everyone expected them to be this year.

up for grabs. My prediction for the Superbowl-------- The Pats....................... and whoever the Pat's beat.

Posted by Lockman on :

The Giants make the playoffs! And Eli only fumbled three times and was only intercepted twice. My what does it take to beat these guys, they must be blessed. Now next in order is to beat the Pats, it could happen.

Posted by Highwaychild on :

Well the G-men are 13 point underdogs.

Watch 'em do Brady like they did Ole Joe Theisman's leg on the Pats opening drive.

Pretty risky to play 'em in a game that doesn't *really* mean anything, especially if they don't win it all...

incredibly stupid... *if* you're gonna do that? you make sure there's way more than enough protection and send out only two guys for the hail mary...plus the first unit just sucked, anyway. Doesn't bode well for the playoffs...

at the risk of sounding a bit mystical? it seems to me like the 'skins have been playing with an extra man on the feild the last few weeks... Collins had a slow start throwing short/low today but later on he was just dropping them right into the basket, esp on the out patterns....

seems like he could have gone deep a few more times than he did too... but the score was healthy and running it up would not have been good.. better to slowly put daboyz to bed instead of riling their arses up....

did they end up with any yards rushing? at one point late in the 4th they were 0 yards rushing...

Ya know? I coulda played college ball, with the teensiest bit of support from the head coach (that's who controlled film requests, inquiries, etc. back in the day). I wasn't great, but I was good. Right now I think the G-men can do it.
I don't know if anybody can cover Moss, but the heat the G-men are getting on opposing QBs right now is bone shattering.
The way they got after Favre with the high quality Offensive line they have was impressive.
I don't think Brady will be waking up feeling to good in a couple weeks.LOL

Well, not sure what they're gonna do. I believe that the price will fluxuate quite abit over the next year. I don't think it'll begin moving up again until just about all of their debt is paid back to the government.
That may take some time, since they're now getting money from another fed program to pay back the fed... [Wall Bang]

Just about everyone knows about AIG's situation now as well. Would you want to get insurance through them, or be in business with them knowing what they did with a chunk of the bailout money? Also, AIG is still at risk for bankruptcy. What happens when the average Joe loses his job due to cutbacks at work? AIG will get less people paying them, as they are unable to, thus the snowball of debt gets larger.

Now, back to football... [Good Luck]
