Hey, Ive been trading for a few years now but im confused about how a buyback works exactly. More precisely do I get money put into my account as a transaction?? a stock i purchased issued a buyback so i am trying to figure out "my job" in this whole process..
help would be appreciated.. im confused.. do i need to claim something, somehow?
Most buybacks are on the open market, but sometimes, they'll do it another way. EXPE bought back shares via a "dutch auction".
If it is a dutch auction, you'll have to decide if you want to sell and at what price. Then they'll determine the highest price they'll buy back for. If your price is in there, they'll buy your shares at your price.
If it's just buying on the open market, you'd just trade as you normally would. Buybacks can help the stock price, by lessening the float.

Ripler, I'll let you know what happens with Eternal Image (ETIM)..They are doing a buy back this summer supposedly.
I'm not sure how they are going to announce or if they will just do a little at a time nor do I know what price or if the will announce it first or do it and announce it after or do it and not say anything until the follow quarter...????? me too..
