Don't remeber ever seeing this question but maybe some one can answer. If I wanted to switch from ameritrade to choice trade do I have to seel all my positions in ameritrade and then deposit the cash in choice trade or preferably can you just transfer your stocks from one broker to the next? Thanks for any info.

I have never switched brokers but I think you can transfer your stocks from one broker to the next.. this is what i found on choicetrade's site (look at #4 on that webpage at bottom of page for account transfers):

Thanks Mac. I went into their site and printed out an account transfer form. Hopefully I can reach someone there on Monday to see how long it takes and if it is actually just a transfer of stocks from one broker to another.

Is that a pretty quick process. I would hate for it to be like a week for everything to settle or transfer and my gains are up and I can't do anything about it before they drop again.

Yea its not exactly a very quick process...I think between 1-3 weeks. I also belive you need to print out a contrct sign it and then mail it to your broker. The snail mail time aspect is why it takes so long.

That time delay will certainly change things. I think I have to wait now until the upside of a few of these stocks to get out. My luck they would turn around while I'm stuck in the middle. I certainly can deal with the wait on some of the long holds like SIRI and USSE but the short term buys I picked up won't make this easy.
