Hello! I would like to buy MetaStock 9.1 for "basic" stock charting, since I´m completly new to TA (I´m learning...) and I´m a mid term investor, so I don´t need all the options that a day trader uses.

The EOD version costs $499 and I´m wondering, if this is a one time cost, or do I need to pay any additional monthly subscription so I can normaly use the software?

I would prefer such a software that doesn´t need any additional subscriptions... atleast until I´m not making enough money to cover it easley [Smile]

stockcharts.com is free. Im not sure what metastock is but I would save my money if I were you. I have been studying technical indicators and have been finding many are completly useless. Stocks arnt like airplanes. Indicators for stocks are often very inacurate. Many times when they are accurate, it was already obvious anyways. For example moving averages can eventually make a good trend line on a uptrending stock , but they are very delayed. Not only that but they are only telling you what is clearly already evident. You could see a trendline without using technical indicators without the delay. Some indicators after a stock has taken a huge drop will then indicate that a lot of people have sold the stock. Wow, thats a brilliant indicator. When I read books they always show a chart where the indicator works perfect but after looking at other charts ive realized they only hand picked charts that support there belief and excluded the majority of charts. Im not against all indicators, but I think the more basic the better. For example, the best indicator for volume is volume. I have an ameritrade account and have looked at the marketsedge section where it uses a whole bunch of indicators. These computer buy and sell recomendations are often ridiculous.

Thanks for your thoughts on this!

Treemoney, I totally agree with you - the more basic the better.

kanalgeruch, I´m already using Medved Quote Tracker - a wonderfull piece of software! [Smile]

I´ll be doing more TA studying and if it doesn´t turn out, that I absolutely need Metastock, I won´t buy it.

I have found this link for free TA software! Maybe someone is going to find it helpful:

http://www.incrediblecharts.com/

By the way, are there any good links out there for technical stock screenings? I have found none yet, except for StockCharts.com predefined Stock Scans.

What do you guys use for technical stock screens?
