Seems to be the way to go! I am 21 year old college student and instead of risking my $6000 investment in penny stocks, this seems to be the more reasonable approach! The Vanguard 500 index fund (vfinx), and the mid-cap index fund (vimsx). What do you guys think? I'm sure the return is not near as high, but hey, a gain is always better than a loss!

Not a bad idea.

Land may be a better idea if you put the same effort into researching the properties.
