SOMA Networks Receives RUS Certification and Announces 700 MHz Products to Meet Growing Demand for Broadband Wireless Deployments in Rural Markets Thursday May 18, 1:10 pm ET
SAN FRANCISCO, May 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SOMA Networks, Inc., a leading provider of last-mile broadband wireless access technology, today announced that the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Utilities Service (RUS) has awarded SOMA Networks the status of "Buy American" for its full suite of SoftAir(TM) Wireless System products and spectral bands. RUS certification authorizes certified independent operating companies and rural communications providers to use funding from RUS grants and loans to purchase SOMA Networks' equipment. In addition, the company is announcing availability of 700 MHz spectrum products to specifically address last mile connectivity challenges, making it one of the only broadband wireless solution vendors to deliver a suite of products in the 700 MHz frequency. As a result of SOMA Networks' new portfolio of rural products and the RUS "Buy American" certification, independent carriers now have a one stop technology partner to create 'pay as you grow' wireless coverage plans, establish financing programs and to connect remote areas with non-line-of-sight (NLOS), plug and play systems that enable primary-line VoIP, data, and multimedia services. Rural carriers face numerous challenges including remote subscribers, difficult geographic markets, limited staff, and inadequate technology to address their unique terrain. SOMA Networks' turnkey 700 MHz wireless solution features superior propagation attributes that allows carriers to economically scale new or existing networks to reach remote towns and small metro areas, extending a wealth of competitive services that have the potential to cultivate economic growth and improve subscribers' quality of life. The unique macro-cellular coverage radius of the solution combined with revenue-generating voice and multimedia services create a very compelling business case that is ideally suited to service the rural market.
"This certification comes at a particularly crucial time for regional and independent carriers as they continue to compete against encroaching service providers, and at the same time upgrade to IP-based applications," said Greg Caltabiano, president and chief operating officer for SOMA Networks. "The ability for rural carriers to remain competitive while doing so at the lowest deployment and operational costs is critical for keeping communities connected. The RUS also recognizes the need for smaller carriers and new operators to participate in the broadband revolution. In 2005, the organization awarded $824,000,000 in Broadband loans, and at the end of the year there were $162,000,000 in pending applications. These monies are going to support independent carriers rolling out broadband connectivity to unserved areas and will be instrumental in bridging the digital divide in the United States."
"The program is truly effective in bringing broadband access into remote areas and therefore critical to the economies in these regions," stated Elizabeth Zucco, Director, Business of Advisory Services at HBLN Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of CyberTel Capital (OTC Bulletin Board: CBCL - News) which was contracted to manage the certification process on behalf of SOMA Networks.
700 MHz Solution:
The 700 MHz band is one of the most cost effective frequencies over which to provide wireless broadband service in rural areas due to its superior propagation attributes. In 2003, the FCC auctioned 700 MHz spectrum for use in broadband wireless communications in an effort to service the 40% of rural US homes that do not currently have access to broadband service. By utilizing RUS subsidiaries, 700 MHz spectrum and SOMA's turnkey technology, service providers can solve last-mile connectivity issues in these markets. SOMA Networks' 700 MHz wireless solution features superior in-building signal quality and can travel up to four times farther than other licensed frequencies. This results in significantly less capital to build the same network as compared to WiFi or unlicensed frequencies.
SOMA's 700 MHz band solution is part of the SoftAir Wireless System, an advanced, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) broadband wireless platform that combines the latest in standards, such as WiMAX 802.16e-2005, IP and voice technologies with the most advanced antenna technologies. The SoftAir System was designed from the ground up to support services that demand high QoS and low latency, making the solution suitable for POTS quality voice and broadband data services. It is comprised of the SOMAport(TM) 300 series wireless broadband gateways along with NPM2000(TM) base stations and a server-based core system, to deliver the only fully converged all-IP, multimedia wireless application platform. The SOMAport 300 gateways go beyond other simple NLOS wireless products. In addition to providing high-speed, always-on Internet access, it empowers service providers to continually add new, innovative and compelling services that increase customer retention and average revenue per user.

I liked this at .015, and alerted then, since it has bounced to .026. I am waiting for its second run which should be stronger. Last time it gapped from .02 to .0251 past the 50 MA. After such a strong morning gap up, I was shocked to see fizzle and fall back to .01 so quickly. This is being manipulated, and should run decent once it starts again. Almost forgot, the real reason to be patient and like it, 13M O/S, it has to go with any decent volumes.

LOL I think you're missing a zero. Looks like they might have been .025 earlier this year.
I think I'll watch this tomorrow. When they did a 1 for 500 RS last fall it tanked to about where it is right now. Looks like its had a couple runs in there.

I believe the last R/S was in conjunction with or to accommodate the buy out or merger with HBLN.

Those are the faxts I see. Not a pump, just don't see much of anything wrong with it right now. Late filing a form 10, big deal, more than 80% of these pennies are and/or have been late filers. That little .026 pop last week was just a preview.

May 9, alerted at .014 before the pop to .026. I know it isn't 500% or a double, just a measly 86%.
