Health Discovery Corporation Expands Licensing and Product Development Relationship with Clarient, Inc. Business Editors / Health Editors
SAVANNAH, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 2006-- Health Discovery Corporation ("HDC") (OTCBB: HDVY) announced today that it has expanded its present licensing and product development relationship with Clarient, Inc. (NasdaqSC: CLRT). Under the expanded agreement, Clarient will now utilize HDC's Support Vector Machine (SVM) technology for the analysis and interpretation of flow cytometry. The two companies will continue their ongoing collaboration and product development in the areas of circulating tumor cells for breast cancer and circulating endothelial cells for angiogenesis.
Dr. Herbert Fritsche, Professor and Director of Clinical Chemistry at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Chairman of HDC's Scientific Team, commented: "While initially used for biomedical research, flow cytometers are now being used for cancer diagnosis and monitoring, drug discovery, stem cell and gene therapy, and DNA diagnostics. Flow cytometry technology impacts both basic cell biology and clinical medicine in a very significant manner as a powerful technique for making measurements on single particles and cells. The technology allows for the evaluation of a large number of cells in a very short period of time: some systems can run at rates approaching 100,000 particles per second while collecting the 10 to 20 variable parameters on each cell.
