Infinium to Launch Phantom Lapboard
Wednesday December 28, 12:35 pm ET

SEATTLE, Dec. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CEO and President of Infinium Labs Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: IFLB - News) Greg Koler has announced Infinium Labs will be launching the Phantom Lapboard in Q-2 of 2006.

The Lapboard is a bespoke wireless keyboard and mouse designed specifically for PC Gamers. Amongst the features it boasts are a 360-degree rotating keyboard for either left- or right-handed players, under the keyboard is the lapboard for the mouse that allows gamers to play from their armchairs - within a 30-foot radius of their PC. This layout allows users to keep both hands closer together when using the mouse and keyboard. Optimized for gaming and media access, the Lapboard has full-size keys, extended space bar and an inverted 'T' for both left- and right-handed players to navigate through games.

The Lapboard will have U.S. and international compliance for distribution in Europe and Asia.

"Where consoles have always scored over the PC games has been in the physical interface the user has with the game. Our Lapboard changes all that. PC Gamers can get a premium peripheral that enhances the gaming experience considerably. It's also the perfect stepping-stone and bridges the subsequent launch of the full service further down the line. The required $USD 2 million round of funding for the Phantom Lapboard is a necessary step to deliver our vision for our products and services quickly into the market, positioned for both consumer and OEM segments, and book revenues by June 2006," said Greg Koler.

Whilst final pricing has yet to be set for the Phantom Lapboard, Infinium Labs will launch the product through direct over the Internet strategic e-commerce sites with viral marketing, advertising campaigns and trade events to support the new Lapboard.

About Infinium Labs

I KNEW IT! As soon as I sold my IFLB shares about a month ago for a loss, the company starts making great progress. This SH1T always happens to me. I knew that new CEO, Greg Koler would make quite an impact for this company. So what's an ideal price to get in right now? Above 2 cents still seems a bit high.

Because I had lost faith in the Phantom Game System. It's been talked about for so long now that most like me have given up hope for IFLB. But during the day, Koler was named the new CEO of IFLB, I had a feeling that he was going to bring this company back up where it should of stayed in the first place. The other half of me was telling me to SELL SELL SELL and GET OUT so I did. I'm my own worst enemy, I must say. Proven time and time again.....

They're doing it again? This has been an ongoing problem with IFLB - The LAUNCH DATE OF PHANTOM.

There's not a whole lot of confidence that Phantom will ever be a reality

"....Infinium Labs will be launching the Phantom Lapboard in Q-2 of 2006.."

Here's a press release from 10/30/2004 (Notice the sentence: "Infinium Labs plans to launch its Phantom Game Service in 2005"):

http://64.233.187.104/search?q=cache:1yyuIiUKO1QJ:www.xbitlabs.com/news/multimedia/display/20041030034606.html+%27news+INFINIUM+LABS%27&hl=en

Infinium Labs Teams Up with Sun to Create Game On-Demand Infrastructure.
Sun, Infinium to Deliver Games for Phantom Console

Category: Multimedia

by Anton Shilov

[ 10/30/2004 | 03:47 AM ]

Infinium Labs and Sun Microsystems have announced plans to create a network and infrastructure to stream content for Infinium’s Phantom Game Service, direct to the living room.

“The Game Technologies Group’s understanding of online gaming, along with the broad-based expertise of the company in delivering content and services over networks, makes Sun an ideal partner for us. Sun’s expertise in delivering content from back-end systems to the user will now become one of our biggest assets. We can focus on offering consumers choice, convenience and ease of use with our PC and Java-based game service,” said Kevin Bachus, president, Infinium Labs.

Sun to Stream Games for Phantom

Infinium Labs chose to work with Sun’s Game Technologies Group after evaluating the offerings of several undisclosed providers in the space, the company said. Infinium Labs and Sun plan to deploy joint marketing programs that underscore their shared vision for the video game industry.

Sun is providing architecture design and back-end infrastructure as part of the overall solution. Sun’s Java technology has been adopted by carriers, handset manufacturers and content companies that want to create and deploy advanced applications and innovative mobile data services. Java technology now powers more than 1.75 billion devices around the globe, including 579 million Java Powered phones, 600 million Java Card technology-enabled smart cards, set-top boxes, PDAs, printers, games and web-sites. Java technology and the online consumer marketplace Java.com let consumers enjoy games and puzzles, sports, chats, email, the arts, financial tools and much more.

Infinium Labs plans to launch its Phantom Game Service in 2005.

Earlier this year, Infinium announced its support of the Java 2 Standard Edition Runtime Environment and Sun’s game APIs, which will allow Java technology-based games to run on the Phantom service out of the box. The Phantom game service also supports PC games.

Infinium Labs plans to launch its Phantom Game Service in 2005.

PC Console for Everyone

The Phantom Gaming Service has four key components: the service itself, the receiver hardware, a robust and flexible distribution network and a large library of games. Titles will be streamed on demand from the service to a Phantom receiver over any broadband Internet connection, in much the same way as consumers receive on-demand satellite or cable television content. Subscribers will receive an initial library of free games, which will be supplemented with new choices each month as a part of their subscription fee. Additional titles can be rented or purchased. Premium content packages will also be made available.

The Phantom gaming console will be based on AMD Athlon XP 2500+ central processing unit with NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 core-logic. The NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 Ultra graphics processing unit will serve as the graphics base for the console. The Phantom will be equipped with 256MB of DDR SDRAM memory as well as 40GB hard disk drive. In addition, the part will come bundled with a gamepad, a mouse and the Phantom Lapboard, an innovative peripheral that enables players to control games designed for keyboard and mouse usage as intuitively and with as much fidelity on the couch as they are used to in the office, the company said.

The Phantom console will be produced in Asia by Biostar.

There is no information whether the Phantom is a Linux-based console, or a Windows-based console.

The Phantom will be available for $199 initially.

Prospects Unclear?

Historically there were a number of consoles based on technologies for personal computers. Virtually all of them did not appear to be a success. A company called Indrema rolled-out a project of L600 console featuring PC hardware and Linux operating system in 2000, but failed to bring it into the market because of insufficient funding. The most successful PC-based console ever is popular Xbox from Microsoft Corporation. Even though Microsoft now manages to sell its product at an affordable price, the company looses quite some money on every such machine and aims to perform a tangible shift in its strategy with the Xbox 2.

Prospects of consoles designed to play PC games are quite shady these days, as there are barebone PC manufacturers who offer small form-factor fully-functional computers with design to fit into living rooms. While now such devices come from manufacturers themselves and require skills to install components like CPUs and HDDs, eventually some system integrators may start to sell already working computers based on similar barebones. Given that those PCs are more powerful and can run games faster, there is a very limited list of advantages consoles may have over PCs.

However, Phantom is not only a console, but a service that will be available for some $30 per month, allowing to download and play an array of games without leaving the living room. The games Infinium promises to bring include the most-innovative cutting-edge titles as well as old-school PC games. Will the approach work? This remains to be seen...

Infinium Labs has confirmed that the Phantom games on demand service is heading to Europe - but there's no news on when.

The Phantom Game Service will allow anyone with a broadband network (and the Phantom receiver box, of course) to access "a broad library of games designed to appeal to both the avid gamer as well as the casual player," according to the official website.

The Phantom made its European debut at the Develop Industry Excellence Awards last night, and was met with a "fantastic response" according to Infinium Labs CEO Kevin Bachus.

"Europe and the UK have a pivotal role in content development," he said.

"There is huge support for an effective online channel that takes gaming direct to consumers."

Infinium didn't say when the Phantom would launch in the UK or how much we can expect to pay for the service, but we'll keep you posted.

Whither the Phantom?

After a big splash in 2004, Infinium Labs' on-demand game service is nowhere to be found at E3.

May 19, 2005: 10:50 AM EDT
By Chris Morris, CNN/Money

LOS ANGELES (CNN/Money) - Last year's E3 was the Phantom's coming out party.

Infinium Labs, the company behind the on-demand video game service, spent millions of dollars for an elaborate booth meant to quiet growing speculation at the time that the service -- and the system that powered it -- were non-existent.

To an extent, the gamble worked. While gamers still had doubts about the company after the show, seeing a working prototype and a smartly designed keyboard and mouse unit bought the company some breathing room.

But this year, the Phantom is nowhere to be found at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, the gaming industry's top deal-making and media event.

In a recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Infinium Labs said there's a good chance it won't raise enough money to launch its key product in time, putting its existence at risk.

"The company believes, based on past performance, that there is a high likelihood that sufficient capital will not be available ... and many or all of these milestones will be missed and the launch date will again shift and/or the company will go out of business," it said in the April 20 filing with the SEC.

The company, which has also suffered legal setbacks and high-level staff departures in recent months, said it needs to secure at least another $11.5 million for the launch.

The Phantom system is designed to offer games over a broadband Internet connection for a monthly fee, currently planned at $19.95, based on a two-year commitment.

But while it hopes to offer at least 10,000 of the Phantom machines by year-end, Infinium acknowledged in the filing that "no firm launch date has been set" for the system. Previously announced launch dates have been missed.

The company did, however, say product development and testing was "near complete" and over 20 publishers, including Atari (Research), Vivendi Universal Games (Research) and Eidos (Research), had agreed to supply content.

Infinium Labs (Research) has instituted a virtual media blackout. Calls to the company to inquire about the reasons it was not attending E3 this year were answered by a receptionist who refused to forward calls, saying she'd been instructed to refer all inquiries to the company's Web page.

Should it fail to obtain the necessary funding, Infinium Labs said in the filing it has "contingency plans to carry the business going forward". One possible scenario mentioned involves shifting distribution of Phantom hardware to other game makers, with Infinium focusing instead on content acquisition and channel programming.

The Phantom burst onto the scene at the 2004 Consumer Electronics Show and was met with instant skepticism – especially when a Phantom representative said he would be happy if the console sold 2 million units in the first two years.

The Xbox, backed by Microsoft's marketing budget of several hundred million dollars, sold about 3.9 million units in its first year.

=======================

IMHO, There is more risk than reward with this stock. GLTA

I think the new CEO, Greg Koler means it this time. This guy is different from the last 2 CEOs due to his successful business background. The first CEO, Tim Roberts was just a crook. The Second CEO, Brachus, (is that how you spell it)? was just some young guy from Microsoft who thought he knew it all but didn't know jack. Just my opinion.

Infinium Labs Receives $5 Million Funding Commitment to Start Phantom Lapboard Manufacturing
Wednesday January 25, 8:02 am ET

SEATTLE, January 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Infinium Labs, Inc. (OTC BB: IFLB - News), developers of the first end-to-end, on-demand game service for delivery to the living room which allows consumers to try/rent/buy any game, any time from the convenience of their living rooms, announced today that it has received a $5 million dollar funding commitment from Golden Gate Investors in the form of a convertible debenture and warrant.

"This commitment gives the Company a funding path to begin manufacturing the Phantom Lapboard and to launch marketing and sales for the lapboard which we target for mid 2006 allowing us to start building our manufacturing lines this year, and continue our initiative to launch the Phantom Game Service," noted Greg Koler, Infinium's CEO and President.

The Phantom Lapboard was nominated at the 2004 E3 show along side Nintendo and Sony for the "BEST OF SHOW" category. It received tremendous response from the 20k plus attendees that visited our exhibit as being the first device to allow gamers to comfortably use a mouse and keyboard from their couch. The peripheral rotates for left and right-handed users and also inclines on a 90-degree angle with a hard surface below for the Phantom Mouse. Consumers have stated that they love the feel of this device; it keeps their hands closer together and provides a better gaming experience. Other applications for this device are geared towards the new digital media centers being developed by companies like Intel and Gateway.

We are currently working with distributors, VAR resellers and e-tailers to start distribution of the Phantom Lapboard, which will be announced in the first half of 2006.

"The Phantom Lapboard and Game Service are attractive investments in new consumer products and services for hedge fund investors," a Golden Gate Investors spokesperson said. "Infinium's new management team has delivered on its short term goals and we are excited to be involved with the company in taking in the on-line gaming industry."

Under terms of the financing, $625,000 dollars will be funded immediately in three tranches; 1. Closing 2. Filing of a registration statement, and 3. Effectiveness of the registration statement. - that triggers Infinium Labs ability to exercise up to $5M in convertible debt.

I read somewhere last year that IFLB needs about 20 million bucks for funding to successfully release the game system onto the market. 5 million bucks seems like chump change BUT I believe that the new CEO, Greg Koler has it in him to get much more funding needed for this project. The last 2 CEOS nearly ran IFLB down to the pits of hell but Koler is slowly but surely making IFLG rise to the occasion. Hats off to the new CEO! Greg Koler is THE MAN!

The fact that they need 20 million bucks was from an analyst who wrote on some stock column last year. Maybe Greg Koler managed to keep the budget down to 5 million instead. Greg Koler has a history of making common sense into reality. Greg Koler is experienced in all fields to make the Phantom game system a huge success. Just keep watching. Oh, and I don't believe the price per share for IFLB will increase dramatically until we get more news about upcoming progress with the game system.
