Quick highlights of products and technologies that are on the way.
Soon to be available in the United States is the MastaScope from Lifeline Biotechnology Inc (Reno, Nev), a diagnostic tool that provides minimally invasive visualization of breast tissues and abnormalities for patients with pathological nipple discharge. The technology has been under development for more than a decade; however, few physicians in the world have performed the breast duct endoscopic procedure. Surgeons in Europe who have used the MastaScope during procedures have found that breast ductal endoscopy can detect breast cancers when they are 1/100th the size of cancers seen on mammograms or MRIs. The company is working to repeat that result with larger patient populations.
