Southwestern Medical Solutions Inc. Has Exclusive Worldwide Marketing Rights to Protect-A-Pal Needle Safety Device
Wednesday December 1, 4:05 pm ET

TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 1, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Southwestern Medical Solutions, Inc. (Other OTC:SWNM.PK - News) is pleased to report that as part of its partnership and co-development agreement with Glacier Medical LLC, it now owns the exclusive right to market and/or distribute the Protect-A-Pal(tm) globally.

Given the critical need for an economic, convenient and effective needle-safety device throughout the global healthcare system, the management of Southwestern Medical Solutions, Inc. is extremely optimistic that the Protect-A-Pal(tm) has the potential, when ultimately brought to market, to make rapid and extensive inroads into the billion-dollar needle (and needle-safety!) industry.

Laws Enacted to Protect Healthcare Workers

Laws now require safety needle devices be available to all healthcare workers - Through the help of state laws and OSHA requirements, healthcare facilities are now mandated to offer choices to the caregiver for safe needle systems. Although millions of safety needles of one type or another are used every day, they all entail a much higher cost than traditional syringe/needle configurations, thus discouraging their use in many settings. Through pre-clinical blind study evaluations, the Company's Protect-A-Pal(tm) safety needle system was chosen every time over other systems for the following reasons: A) It's the easiest to use; B) It provides the greatest level of protection; C) It's the most affordable; D) It works with any traditional syringe/needle configuration available today.

Having completed successful prototype testing, minor modifications to the Protect-A-Pal(tm) safety device are being carried out to adapt the technology to several unique applications in the healthcare field.

Southwestern Medical Has The Solution - The Company's proprietary Labguard system for on-site collection & diagnostic testing technology represents a revolutionary approach that ensures greater safety and convenience for diagnostic testing administrators at an attractive, market-competitive price. Currently in the final prototype stage, Labguard has already attracted expressions of strong interest from several major medical-device distribution companies, both in the U.S. and abroad. Numerous applications of the Labguard system to address specific market needs, such as non-invasive HIV testing, are currently in the design, prototype and/or testing stages. As well, the Company is advancing the Protect-A-Pal(tm) needle-safety device toward final prototype in preparation for mass production.

Southwestern Medical Solutions to Acquire Significant Interest in Glacier Medical, LLC
Monday November 22, 4:00 pm ET

TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 22, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Southwestern Medical Solutions, Inc. (Other OTC:SWNM.PK - News) is pleased to report that it has entered into an agreement whereby it has been granted the right to earn up to a 35% interest in Glacier Medical LLC, and certain exclusive marketing rights concerning that Company's Protect-A-Pal needle safety device and related technology. SWNM will earn its interest in stages, by funding development, testing, evaluation, patenting, FDA application and approval of Protect-A-Pal, as well as initial manufacturing costs and general corporate overhead as defined in the agreement.

Glacier Medical's proprietary technology appears to offer the best-known solution to the universal problem of needle-stick injuries among healthcare workers. Prototype testing of the device has established the device's excellent capabilities; i.e. a high level of safety combined with attractive ease-of-use. Nearly a million needle stick injuries are estimated to occur annually in the United States, a significant number of which result in tragic illnesses due to blood borne pathogens having been present on the needle involved in the incident. This acquisition represents an exciting entry into the multibillion-dollar medical needle/syringe market for Southwestern Medical with a revolutionary safety device that offers enormous sales potential for the Company.

Glacier Medical's Protect-A-Pal Technology

Protect-A-Pal is a unique, proprietary technology for safety devices to protect against all manner of accidental needle, or sharps 'sticks' by doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers. Having completed successful prototype testing, minor modifications to the Protect-A-Pal safety device are being carried out to adapt the technology to several distinct applications in the healthcare field. Millions of other, more elaborate safety needles are in use today, but at a much higher cost than traditional syringe/needle configurations. The Protect-A-Pal device is expected to provide maximum safety and convenience at a much lower price than those safety needles currently being used in the huge needle marketplace.

Southwestern Medical Has The Solution -- The Company's proprietary Labguard Accucheck(tm) on-site collection & diagnostic testing technology represents a revolutionary approach that ensures greater safety and convenience for diagnostic testing administrators at an attractive, market-competitive price. Currently in the final prototype stage, Labguard Accucheck(tm) has already attracted expressions of strong interest from several major medical-device distribution companies, both in the U.S. and abroad. Numerous applications of the Labguard Accucheck(tm) to address specific market needs, such as non-invasive HIV testing, are currently in the design, prototype and/or testing stages. ``The addition of the Protect-A-Pal technology and the numerous critical applications (safety devices) it will fulfill greatly strengthens Southwestern Medical's emerging profile as a technology-led company with a particular concern, and capability, for much-needed safety within the medical devices & healthcare community,'' said Richard Powell, SWMS Vice-President -- New Product Development.

Southwestern Medical Solutions to Investigate Use of Labguard Accucheck For On-Site Animal Test Kits
Monday November 15, 6:30 pm ET

TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 15, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Southwestern Medical Solutions, Inc. (Other OTC:SWNM.PK - News) is pleased to announce that it has begun investigating the possibility of entering the very large market for urine testing of animals with its on-site testing kit, which it considers to be readily adaptable for animal testing.

Animal Testing - A Huge and Lucrative Market

Animal urine testing - canine, feline, porcine, equine - for all manner of diseases and health problems are almost too numerous to count. In some instances, on-the-spot diagnosis is possible, while many other tests must be analyzed in the laboratory. SWMS will explore the extent to which its Labguard Accucheck(tm) kits may be used to facilitate the extremely wide variety of animal tests that are currently used to detect and/or diagnose many animal diseases and conditions.

Much More Than a Medical Diagnostic Method

In the United States, equine drug testing may well account for more on-site urine sampling than is carried out for all human drug screening, and certainly exceeds equine urine sampling for disease diagnosis by an overwhelming margin.

Unscrupulous racehorse owners, trainers, (certainly in a small minority) and others sometimes attempt to influence a horse's performance, and thus the outcome of a race - on which hundreds of thousands, or even millions of dollars are wagered - through the illegal/illicit administering of a wide range of performance enhancing (and degrading) substances to the horse. The list of such substances is long and ever changing. To combat this illegal activity, two or three, and sometimes more than three horses, are submitted to 'drug' screening via urine sampling immediately following the race. At every thoroughbred, standard-bred, and quarter horse racetrack across North America, at least 2 horses from every race, every day, are led back to the 'testing barn' for urinalysis.

Southwestern Medical Solutions to Offer Labguard Accucheck On-Site and In-Home HIV Test Kit
Monday November 15, 4:05 pm ET

TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 15, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Southwestern Medical Solutions, Inc. (Other OTC:SWNM.PK - News) is pleased to report that it has begun research & development regarding an economical and accurate HIV urinalysis test kit for safe, rapid on-site testing/screening and in-home, self-administered testing. Urinalysis is vastly superior to blood-based HIV tests in many ways, including greater safety and ease of use for healthcare workers, lower cost of sample collection, and stronger consumer acceptance. Since HIV is not spread/contractible through urine, the Labguard Accucheck(tm) HIV on-site urinalysis test eliminates the risk of infection to healthcare workers through accidental exposure.

A SIMPLE, EFFICIENT AND NON-INVASIVE TEST

The Company's HIV test kit will be 'simplicity itself``. The patient need only provide a urine sample through the Labguard Accucheck(tm) collection system, which requires no preservation and can remain stable for 55 days at room temperature, or sent directly to a laboratory for further examination. The fact that the test is non-invasive, i.e. it does not involve taking a blood sample with a needle, overcomes the greatest element of resistance to HIV testing worldwide. Surveys and data reports show that people avoid HIV testing, largely due to their innate fear of needles. It is estimated that fully one-third of Americans infected with the AIDS virus are unaware of their HIV status. Data from the World Health Organization and UNAIDS show that 30 million people worldwide are infected with HIV, but only 10% know they are infected!

A CRITICAL NEED

Availability of Southwestern Medical's proposed non-invasive HIV test kit in the foreseeable future could dramatically improve the dire situation regarding undiagnosed HIV around the world. The Company's Labguard Accucheck(tm) HIV test will cost about 90% less than HIV blood tests, reflecting the savings in the collection, storage, and disposal of blood samples. The self administered, in-home HIV test kit from Southwestern Medical Solutions Inc. will facilitate non-invasive, private, safe, and economical testing for AIDS, and is expected to radically alter the HIV diagnosis/treatment paradigm.
