Kiwi Networks and TransAria Announce Joint Field Trial Activities Demonstrating Breakthrough Technology in License-Exempt Wireless Access
PR Newswire - October 25, 2004 12:49
CAMPBELL, Calif. and BOZEMAN, Mont., Oct 25, 2004 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Kiwi Networks, Inc., a wireless broadband technology provider focused on resolving interference problems in the unlicensed band and TransAria, a managed data services provider serving businesses, government and residences throughout the Northwestern United States, today announced their joint effort to test Kiwi Networks' innovative Cellular Wi-Fi access system, designed to enhance wireless broadband performance. Kiwi Networks' Cellular Wi-Fi system delivers scalable wide-area voice and data services using Wi-Fi based devices.

TransAria selected Missoula, Montana as the test location because a number of wireless internet service providers (WISPs) operate in Missoula, where the 2.4GHz ISM band is heavily congested. In the first phase of the TransAria trial, Kiwi Networks successfully demonstrated that its access system was barely affected by high interference levels. Compared to other Wi-Fi access systems, Kiwi's access system delivers an order of magnitude increase in performance.

"We are very impressed with the results of the tests to date and we look forward to our continued cooperation with Kiwi Networks," said Todd Graetz, TransAria's Vice President of Operations. "TransAria intends to target cities with populations of up to 250,000 in the Northwest region. Given the popularity of unlicensed band solutions, interference is a fundamental barrier in all of our target markets. We at TransAria hope to leverage Kiwi technology to offer robust carrier-grade voice and data services and avoid acquiring expensive licensed spectrum."

"We are delighted to work with TransAria, a pioneering service provider," said Bret Sewell, CEO of Kiwi Networks. "We are intent on delivering solutions that will enable TransAria and others to expand their services into new markets that would have otherwise been out of reach."

About Kiwi Networks

Kiwi systems are built on low cost Wi-Fi hardware and utilize cost-free unlicensed spectrum, giving the service provider a tremendous economic advantage, as well as access to substantially more spectrum than licensed band solutions. Kiwi's technology innovations eliminate the harmful effects of shared spectrum interference and deliver an order of magnitude more capacity than conventional systems.
