-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PICTURES AND MESSAGE FROM OTHER BOARD These are high-speed Ferry boats....
...designed to produce little or no wake. The previous people-only ferry service was discontinued and the Puget Sound area has suffered economically because of it. They were accused of kicking up too much wake that eroded the high bank along some very expensive water-front property, and jostled the many fish farms that sit in many of the surrounding inlets.
The photo of the artist rendering shows the full prototype to scale. But the actual Ferries will be MUCH larger, to carry about 150 people. Someone recently posted a link to a model of the real ferry. You have to sift thru the various artist renderings and models to understand what is going on here. This is a real boat intended to prove out the hydrofoil and propulsion with real people onboard.
The most important issue here is that Radix Marine is actually building a boat. The design is from ArtAnderson and the top-level contract is from the State of Washington.
When this thing finally hits the water, the exposure in the press and nautical circles is going to be awesome. This is the "first of many", I hope.
Kathy showed me the artist rendering before Christmas and suggested that the prototype might make a good USV. It's about the right size. We will just have to wait and see what happens, but I'm feeling better about this investment the more I check up on it.
