Charley Cat. 4 now, almost 5, and will hit Naples/Ft. Myers - Sanibel Island instead of Tampa.
Andrew was a Cat. 5 in '92.
Those poor people can't even evacuate - No time. Nothing but Tampa was mentioned until an hour ago. There could be MANY deaths and that's VERY disturbing. There is a REALLY LARGE older population there. Should direct hit head on by 5:30pm EST
It would be nice to say a prayer for all those people.....

My Dad lives on Ft. Myers Beach. He has been evacuated to norther Ft. Myers. Off the beach but, not far enough for me or my family. He is a pastor and is saying his own prayers as well as has ours. We appreciate all of the prayers we can get right now. He said there are a lot of people that waited just too long. There are people and families in cars looking for places to stay. He has let the hotel know that he will gladly share his room with anyone that needs it. Again, Thanks for the prayers for everyone stuck in Ft. Myers and anyone else in the path of this monster.

I'm up in Clearwater on the Tampa Bay peninsula, and was just down in Lee County last month visiting with family and friends. It's weird to think that the next time I go down there, I may not recognize much. It's ironic that I was offered 'safe haven' with family in Lee County, but was/am not in an evacuation zone and so I stayed put here. I hope it passes quickly and with as little damage as possible, and I pray for all the people and animals caught in the storm: if we had a better idea of where it was actually going to make landfall, I would have been the one extending the invitations.

With all the technology we have today why didn't they warn all area? Then they could have had everyone ready for it and when the path is for sure going to hit then evacuste. Everyone on Florida cost should have been warned. Another reason why I hate the news! They say this is projected path and everyone believs it I don't like it and the news seems to be one sided. Finally I would like to say good luck and godspeed to all in Florida.

Hit Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda area the worst. It wiggled just as it was making landfall and spared Ft. Myers area. Weird.
The President and his brother Jeb already declared Federal Disaster areas and promised National Guard and other help by Sunday. SUNDAY? Why not NOW? The KNEW it was coming.
Guesstimates of $15 Billion in damage and 3 dead and 4 injured so far.
From what I've heard, Orlando has a LOT of physical damage too. Talked to my sons up there. NO power there either. Lots of flooding.

Up to 60 Dead in Port Charlotte. Hit Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda area the worst. Most of the dead seem to be in this 1 retirement community of 400 mobile homes.
Of course, every TV station has it here in FL, but for the rest of you all over US and Canada who want to see what's going on, CNN seems to be best, and Weather Channel....

Hurricane Charley wasn't quite as widespread as Andrew in '92 - But the devastation IS just as Horrible.
I'm sure most of you have seen it on TV. At least they had (The State and Feds) their act together this time BEFORE the disaster struck. They had 1,200 National Guardsman and 100's of cops and firemen/paramedics and supplies there yesterday morning. Many sick and injured people had to be trasported to hospitals 40+ miles away because the 3 area hospitals are badly damaged and don't have water or power.
There is PLENTY of water and ice this time, and Publix, Frito Lay warehouse from Hialeah, and Home Depot stores from all over the state have truckloads of food and supplies arriving by the hour.

The worst part about this is, due to my job, I was flown out to Minnesota since our company might not of been able to function. It is just north of Orlando. I had to leave behind my family there and they were also in the direct line of it. They still don't have power. Man I need help making lots of money so that doesn't happen again. I hated leaving them in that situation. For all of those whose thoughts were on Florida these past few days, thanks.
