IPVoice Communications Inc. Invited to Sun Microsystems Grand Opening of RFID ``Smart-Tag'' Plant
THURSDAY, MAY 06, 2004 1:57 PM
- BusinessWire

DALLAS, May 6, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- IPVoice Communications, Inc. (IPVO) today announced that IPVO's subsidiaries, Digital Computer Integration Corp. and NETSCO Services Inc. were invited to the Grand Opening of Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW) Dallas-area RFID facility. The new facility will test radio tags for tracking consumer products and improving inventory control in stores.

With the move by retailing giant Wal-Mart to require Radio Frequency Information or RFID on all products sold in its store by January 2005, RFID has become a hot technology. RFID is technology that could replace bar codes and help companies like Wal-Mart improve control of their inventory, cut costs and reduce theft. Key to the success of this technology is the development of software and hardware products that will allow manufacturers to apply "smart-tags" to their products.

NETSCO Services, Inc. (NETSCO) is one of several technology partners working with Sun Microsystems Inc. to develop and test RFID products that will help companies like Wal-Mart effectively implement RFID systems. Digital Computer Integration (DCI) is working in cooperation with NETSCO to produce RFID products that provide the portability necessary in warehouse type operations. Technicians will test whether RFID tags in the pallets, and eventually on individual items, can be read by systems that retailers will use.

"Our requested attendance at Sun Microsystems's RFID facility in Dallas further validates our focus on acquiring emerging technology firms, such as our recently announced Letter of Intent to acquire NETSCO," said Philip Verges, CEO of IPVoice. "The synergies between NETSCO and DCI become more obvious as we become more involved in the rapidly growing market in RFID."
