DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
Digital Angel Corp.'s (DOC) third-quarter loss widened, due to lower sales of its Sabre radios.
The St. Paul, Minn., maker of biosensor technologies to remotely monitor key body functions had a third-quarter loss of $1.44 million, or 3 cents a share, compared with a loss of $984,000, or 2 cents a share, a year earlier.
Digital Angel said revenue for the quarter ended Sept. 30 fell 4.1% to $13.2 million from $13.8 million a year ago.
Analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call expected, on average, a loss of 2 cents a share.
In addition, Digital Angel said a special committee recently finished a strategic analysis started in July. Instead of selling the company, re-capitalizing it or merging it with the majority shareholder, the board decided to ask the company's management to focus its attention on reducing general and administrative and expenses and stemming operating losses to reach profitability in 2007.
Digital Angel shares were recently down 25 cents, or 8.1%, at $2.84.
