NUAN9.10, -0.21, -2.3%) , a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions, today announced the installation of Nuance(R) SpeechAttendant(R) at Bell Canada, that nation's largest communications company. Bell Canada's system, referred to as MAYA, is being used in the company's Montreal (Quebec) and Toronto regional offices, serving over 5,200 Bell Canada employees.
By simply saying the name of the person, department or region they would like to reach, Bell Canada employees can instantly connect to their intended destination, eliminating the need to remember extensions, rely on a cumbersome touchtone "spell by name" system or wait for an operator. As an added feature, callers can interact with the system in English and Canadian French while using MAYA's highly accurate speech recognition technology developed by Nuance.
In addition to reducing hold time and operator costs, MAYA will also increase the productivity of employees who are working away from their offices. Those employees calling in will not have to search for the telephone numbers of their colleagues or wait for an operator, and calls can be routed directly to their remote location through MAYA.
"Bell Canada's deployment of SpeechAttendant within its regional offices demonstrates the level of confidence the company has in Nuance speech-enabled applications," said Richard Martel, general manager, Autoattendant Solutions, Nuance. "Nuance continues to drive the remarkable evolution of speech attendant systems by developing applications that benefit our customers and the industry as a whole."
Nearly 2,000 organizations use the Nuance SpeechAttendant system to route more than 1.5 billion calls every year. SpeechAttendant is the industry's most accurate and natural speech-enabled auto attendant application. Taking only days to implement in most cases, SpeechAttendant's innovative product design can seamlessly integrate into most leading corporate directory infrastructures. SpeechAttendant currently supports the following languages: US English, German, UK English, Dutch, Australian English, American Spanish, Canadian French and European French. SpeechAttendant can also be localized to support other languages on a custom basis.

News for 'NUAN' - (Nuance Communications Announces Dictation Technology for Mobile Devices; Continuous Speech Dictation System Enables Mobile Users to Dictate Text Naturally ... So ... You ... Don't ... Have ... to .. Talk ... Like ... This)

BURLINGTON, Mass., Apr 04, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Nuance Communications, Inc.
(NASDAQ: NUAN), the world's leading supplier of speech and imaging solutions, today announced Nuance's Dragon(TM) Mobile Dictation, a new Nuance(R) Mobile technology for mobile device users to dictate SMS messages using continuous speech. Nuance will demonstrate the new functionality in Booth # 5044 at CTIA Wireless 2006, being held this week in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Leveraging the award-winning Dragon(TM) NaturallySpeaking(R) technology within the mobile environment, Nuance's Dragon Mobile Dictation gives mobile phone users a more natural way to enter SMS messages, up to five times faster than using a keypad or predictive text. With continuous speech technology, users aren't required to pause between words when dictating text.

"Mobile subscribers sent over a trillion SMS messages last year alone. They are now ready to use their voice, rather than thumbs, to send text," said Dan Miller, senior analyst, Opus Research. "Dictation is just part of Nuance's arsenal of embedded and server side-solutions. In concert with mobile carriers and handset makers, the company is ready to demonstrate that the convenience of accurate dictation will drive user adoption and repeat usage even further."

"From voice-activated dialing to SMS message dictation and read-out, our goal is to overcome traditional keypad constraints to deliver new levels of convenience and accessibility for mobile phone users," said Craig Peddie, vice president and general manager, Embedded Speech Solutions, Nuance. "Previous mobile dictation solutions forced users to pause awkwardly between words and speak in an unnatural way. Nuance's Dragon Mobile Dictation offers a significant usability improvement, allowing mobile users to compose text messages by speaking naturally."

Mobile dictation not only overcomes traditional keypad constraints for data entry, but also enables hands-free use of mobile devices for improved convenience, safety and accessibility. Powered by the robust VoCon(R) 3200 embedded speech engine, the Nuance system combines high-recognition performance with an easy-to-use correction interface to provide the best user experience. Nuance will be delivering the first release of Dragon Mobile Dictation to several OEM partners in May.

The new dictation capabilities extend Nuance's existing portfolio of embedded speech solutions for mobile applications, currently available on more than 50 million handsets worldwide, including models from LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Sanyo and Siemens and supported by major carriers such as Orange, Sprint, T-Mobile and Vodafone. This functionality includes voice-activated dialing, voice commands for rapid access to phone features, and audio readout of caller identities, email or SMS messages in a variety of languages and voices.

News for 'NUAN' - (Nuance Communications and Gracenote Announce Speech-Enabled Media Player Applications for Mobile Devices; Expanded Partnership Delivers Full Voice Control of Music Collections on Mobile
Devices)

LAS VEGAS, Apr 05, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Nuance Communications, Inc.
(NASDAQ:
NUAN), the world's leading supplier of speech and imaging solutions, and Gracenote, a global leader in digital entertainment technology, today announced a joint partnership to develop and market speech-enabled solutions for digital music collections on mobile devices. The partnership expands joint development efforts established in January 2005 to develop speech-enabled automotive entertainment solutions. The companies will demonstrate the new mobile functionality in Booth # 5044 at CTIA Wireless 2006, being held this week in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The joint offering provides a rich voice-activated interface to select a song, artist or playlist on MP3-enabled mobile devices. This combined solution uses underlying speech capabilities from Nuance and Gracenote's MediaVOCS phonetic database and playlist navigation to allow users to quickly and easily find and play the music stored on their mobile devices. Nuance's best-in-class text-to-speech engine for the mobile environment then delivers verbal feedback for hands-free and eyes-free activation and selection verification.

"As handset manufacturers offer enhanced memory on mobile devices -- with expected capacity for thousands of songs within the next year - it is becoming increasingly difficult for consumers to navigate the large music collections stored on their mobile devices," said Marc Theeuwes, director, mobile products, Gracenote. "By working together, Gracenote and Nuance are making it easy for music lovers to access their favorite songs on mobile devices through speech."

"Nuance's advanced natural language technology allows users to simply say 'play' and then name the song title, genre or artist," said Craig Peddie, vice president and general manager, Embedded Speech Solutions, Nuance. "There is no requirement for a strict command interface that must be used in order to make the MP3 player function. Combining Nuance's advanced speech recognition technology with Gracenote's extensive database of media information will also allow people to simple say, 'Play the Boss,' and the player will use the information contained in Gracenote's database to recognize the nickname for Bruce Springsteen, and then start to play songs recorded by Bruce Springsteen."

The combined Nuance and Gracenote solution allows mobile device manufacturers to quickly deploy speech recognition technology in all types of MP3-enabled phones and to pass on superior performance and usability to their customers.

In addition, the solution will make it easier for consumers to manage and enjoy their mobile music collections by using voice command-and-control to:

-- Navigate to all media instantly:

-- Play any individual song out of a collection, just by

saying its name.

-- Instantly hear a new mix, such as music from specific

genres, artists, albums, regions, decades, or years.

-- Playlist instant new custom mixes:

-- Describe any combination of qualities of the music they

want to hear in natural language - such as "60s Detroit

Soul" to generate new mixes on the fly.

-- Keep in the mood of the song currently playing by asking

for "More like this."

-- Find information on artists and songs:

-- Consumers will be able to get more information on a

favorite song they've been hearing by asking, "What is

this?"

News for 'NUAN' - (EFI and Nuance Team to Enable Unrivaled Scan-to-Desktop and Document Routing Solutions for High-Volume Office and Professional Design Environments Industry-Leading EFI Fiery and EFI SendMe Combine with ScanSoft PaperPort to Provide Customers with the Most Complete Way to Automate Document Processes)

FOSTER CITY, Calif. & BURLINGTON, Mass., Apr 17, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
EFI
(Nasdaq: EFII), the world leader in digital controllers, superwide format printers and inks, and print management solutions for commercial and enterprise printing, and Nuance Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: NUAN), a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions, today announced a licensing and collaboration agreement to provide office workers and design professionals with the most complete scan-to-desktop and document routing solutions. EFI will standardize on ScanSoft PaperPort from Nuance as its desktop component for its industry-leading EFI Fiery(R) and SendMe(TM) solutions, under the brands EFI Desktop SE and EFI Desktop Professional. Both solutions provide easy-to-use scanning, image enhancement, PDF and document management capabilities to automate a wide range of document processes.

EFI SendMe is the premier digital document distribution and management solution for paper-intensive businesses, and more than 14 million users depend on Fiery technology for precision color, consistent high quality output and workflow innovation. ScanSoft PaperPort is the world's most popular scanning and document management application for personal computers, with patented features that are used by millions to scan, store, search and manage their paper and digital documents. The new EFI Desktop products enhance the EFI Fiery and SendMe solutions by bringing professional-grade scanning, office document assembly and PDF capabilities to every desktop - in an integrated application that is easy to deploy and requires no end-user training.

"As the use of digital copiers for scanning continues to increase, so does the need for cross-platform, non-proprietary solutions that address this niche," said Ralph Gammon, editor and publisher, Document Imaging Report. "The collaboration between Nuance and EFI represents a powerful alliance of independent vendors. It creates a versatile solution that can be deployed in conjunction with the multiple hardware lines and software applications that typically exist within a single organization."

The collaboration between EFI and Nuance will allow organizations to leverage EFI's imaging and print management solutions with virtually any digital copier, scanner or multi-function peripheral (MFP), making it easier to get paper into enterprise systems, while also increasing worker productivity and reducing operating costs. The two companies are also cooperating in various sales and marketing activities, and plan to collaborate on future product releases.

"Combining the powerful PaperPort desktop management and scanning technologies from Nuance with EFI's market leading print and imaging solutions gives our customers a potent combination: an intuitive desktop management tool and a highly productive document printing capability," said Frank Mallozzi, senior vice president, worldwide marketing and sales, EFI. "The EFI Desktop SE and Desktop Professional solutions enable customers to distribute, archive and print documents from a single, unified interface. Now, managing the deluge of electronic documents corporate workers face everyday will be a lot simpler."

Unlike alternative scan-to-desktop solutions that deliver features limited to scanning and are proprietary to the vendor server environment, PaperPort provides EFI Desktop SE and Professional users with powerful scanning, TIF, PDF and document management capabilities that add value to existing investments in enterprise solutions, including email and enterprise content management.

EFI Desktop SE

-- One-Button Scan-to-Desktop - Scanning from an EFI Fiery-enabled copier and EFI SendMe is easier than ever with the patented One-Button scanning capability pioneered by PaperPort

-- Fast and Easy Office Document Assembly - Using patented drag & drop stacking capabilities, users can easily combine multiple scanned pages into single custom PDF document that is easier to view, print, store and email

-- Image Enhancement Tools - Includes Scanner Enhancement Technology (SET), which eliminates the need to re-scan a crooked document or poor quality scan. SET tools deliver professional enhancement capabilities with point & click simplicity, including de-skew, de-speckle, contrast adjustment and color-to-grayscale conversion

-- SimpleSearch - Allows users to search and find scanned and digital documents via file name and meta data

-- Drag & Drop Document Workflow - The PaperPort SendTo bar makes it fast and easy to send documents - even sets of different types of documents - to any desktop application, including email, fax and print, as well as to enterprise applications such as Oracle iFS, Microsoft SharePoint and a wide range of WebDAV content management systems.

EFI Desktop Professional

-- All EFI Desktop SE Features

-- Robust PDF Creation and Security - Provides every user with the ability to create PDF from all of their PC applications, and adds full PDF viewing, annotation and security features to the EFI solution

-- Advanced Office Document Assembly - Dramatically expands document assembly capabilities as well, enabling users to combine scanned documents with documents and photographs of nearly any other format, including Microsoft Office and Corel WordPerfect documents

-- Built-In OCR - Stop retyping and use EFI's solutions to convert paper into documents that you can edit in seconds

-- All-in-One Search(TM) - Nearly every kind of document, photograph and media file can be managed by the EFI Desktop Professional. A powerful desktop search and indexing engine is tightly integrated with OCR, meaning that all your documents - scanned and digital - can be easily found using a single keyword or phrase

-- Revolutionary Split Desktop - Enables users to work in multiple folder locations at the same time, and move and assemble documents from disparate folders quickly and easily

News for 'NUAN' - (Nuance Communications Automates Free Nationwide Directory Assistance Service for 1-800-FREE411; Nuance DA System Drives Voice Activation for Jingle Networks; Achieves 50% Automation Rate)

BURLINGTON, Mass., Apr 19, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Nuance Communications, Inc.
(NASDAQ: NUAN), the world's leading supplier of speech and imaging solutions, today announced that Jingle Networks, developer of the first nationwide free telephone directory assistance service (1-800-FREE411), has selected automated directory assistance (DA) solutions from Nuance to help provide a high quality consumer 411 service to millions of consumers.

The 1-800-FREE411 service introduces a performance advertising model: consumers get free directory assistance, saving them from $0.75 to $3.49 per call, and Jingle gets paid by advertisers who play 10-12 second audio advertising messages with a special offer targeted at the specific type of business the consumer is requesting.

Jingle launched its service last year utilizing Nuance's automated DA solutions, including the industry's leading automatic speech recognition (ASR) and text-to-speech (TTS) technologies, innovative voice user interfaces and patented pre-processing methodologies for rapid voice search. The system, which achieved automation rates of 50 percent for national business, government and residential listings, was rolled out within two months.

Jingle has now deployed all Nuance ASR and TTS applications for its premise-based DA automation platform, built to accommodate significant growth in call volume. The Nuance professional services organization continues to work with Jingle on custom voice development and voice user interface optimization, along with customized applications that will continue to improve automation rates.

"Our free service offers a win-win solution for consumers and advertisers - but it's vital that the caller interaction is accurate and efficient and that's why we rely on Nuance's technology to help deliver a high quality service," said Scott Kliger, founder and chief technology officer, Jingle Networks. "We selected Nuance to automate our DA efforts because of its unique ability to deliver the highest automation rates and accurate access to more than 160 million listings, thereby controlling our costs without sacrificing the level of the overall customer experience."

"The speech-enabled DA system from Nuance delivers a dynamic and friendly speech-enabled DA experience, enabling Jingle to offer superior DA service at a lower cost," said Mike Thompson, vice president and general manager, Directory Assistance, Nuance. "The comprehensive solution from Nuance includes complete DA capabilities, integration to major systems platforms, and an unrivaled track record of success around the globe."

News for 'NUAN' - (Nuance and Huawei Develop Voice Activated Dialing Solutions for Telecommunications Providers in China; New Speech Applications Allow Telcos to Deliver Compelling, Value-Added Services for
Customers)

BURLINGTON, Mass., Apr 24, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Nuance Communications, Inc.
(Nasdaq: NUAN), a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions, and Huawei, China's leading provider of telecommunications-grade voice solutions, today announced the successful deployment of Huawei's Voice Activated Dialing
(VAD)
Solutions in China. Using Nuance's automated speech recognition technologies, Huawei allows callers to "dial" any contact using a single voice command.

The Huawei system enables landline or mobile phone users to store their contact information in a secure, network-based server and initiate phone calls by simply saying the name of person they wish to call. For enterprise or corporate customers, the VAD Solution can also act as an auto-attendant service, allowing callers simply to say the name of the person or department they want to reach rather than needing to remember extension numbers, use touchtone, or wait for an operator.

Customers that have deployed Huawei's VAD Solutions include China Mobile, China NetCom and China Telecom. For mobile operators, VAD is the key component of the Huawei enterprise communications solution, while VAD forms part of the Network Intelligence Solution for fixed line operators.

"In the highly competitive telecom industry, organizations are looking for new solutions to differentiate themselves from their competition and generate additional revenue streams," said Zhao Yong, director, Application and Software Product Marketing Department, Huawei. "With the advent of mature speech technologies, Voice Activated Dialing applications meet these requirements by creating an extremely profitable value-added service. We chose to work with Nuance due to its global commitment to delivering quality speech technologies. The initial deployments of our Voice Activated Dialing Solutions have been successful, and we expect telecom providers will continue to adopt speech-enabled applications as we expand our offerings in this area."

"Huawei is unleashing some of the industry's most innovative solutions for the China market and beyond," said Michael Thompson, vice president and general manager, Telco Search and Communications Division, Nuance. "With more than 400 million users, China represents the world's largest mobile phone market. Nuance Mobile offers the ideal solution for partners such as Huawei to develop speech-enabled solutions that will create compelling, value-added services for this growing market."

Huawei's VAD Solutions can scale to mange address books of varied sizes, from personal contacts to thousands of names for enterprise customers. The system is currently available in Chinese Mandarin and Chinese Cantonese blended with English. Additional language support is under development.
