Can you collect a dividend by owning a call option? Dividends not applicable to options?

No you do not collect dividends on options. The reason for this is that technically you do not own the stock. You own a position on the stock, hope this makes sense.

if you own the stock and are selling postions(puts/calls) from your shares you can collect as long as they dont call you out before the date
