What is the best way to purchase stocks that can only be bought with a limit order? What is the correct number of shares to buy? Thanks in advance.

I don't quite understand what you are trying to ask. If you can clarify your questions a little better, I will see if I can help you. Browns Mills, New Jersey, eh? I spent almost half of my life in that town, running the ranges at Ft.Dix, camping out in the pine barrens and fishing in Mirror lake. Small world, I guess.

Hey Zeker...you sound like an Army buddy! I was a Medic at Walson at the end of Nam. We liked the area so we stayed. Pines are still beautiful thanks to limited development. Tell me more...
As for trading, the trading platform I am using allows only limit orders on those below $1. I have tried choosing a reasonable price between bid and ask but the order does not always go through. I was wondering if I was offering too much/too little, or trying to buy too many shares at a time (sometimes 5000 or more). Thanks agin for your reply.

Your limit order has to be equal or greater than the limit sell order of a seller. If this happens the sell completes. Share count can have a lot to do with that also. If you are trying to buy to many shares there may not be a seller or multiple sellers selling that amount combined so it won't fill. Also brokerage firms put you on a list as to when you made that order and they go in order of earliest to latest filling in that order. I hope I helped you out. BDUBS!
