Yes, I understand the importance and implications of the discovery but come on, who wasn't hoping to hear about a race of Cyclop beings living on a planet orbiting some distant star?

Nope, just a new bacteria with skewed cell components. Damn.

I thought the news was great, but I was hoping for another planet discovery. At least we know now for sure life can be a blend of or different compounds or elemts which makes possibilities unlimited.

That's the problem though. Prior to this we had a benchmark definition of "life". Apparantely it was wrong though so now how do you go about searching for new life when you have no clear cut definition of it? Do you simply add arsenic to the list and move on?

I think its just the tip of the iceberg and there are so many more mysteries that will surprise us. Shows us how little we really know when we know so much.

NASA forms $1.1 billion partnership with private space flight companies

Wonder what this will bring about?

Not surprising that you "wonder" about it. Ya know, being your stupid and all. But it will bring innovation and cost reductions. And less reliance on foreign countries.

I'm not sure if NASA invented this or it invented NASA
 -

The heaviest element yet known to science.

The new element is Governmentium (Gv). It has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.
These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lefton-like particles called peons.
Since Governmentium has no electrons or protons, it is inert. However, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact.
A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction normally taking less than a second to take from four days to four years to complete.
Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2-6 years. It does not decay but instead undergoes a reorganisation in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.
In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganisation will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes.
This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass.

When catalysed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium, an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons. All of the money is consumed in the exchange, and no other byproducts are produced.

since pagan gets his panties in a bunch when i cut and paste, i'll just post a link. We have a very exciting Mars landing a comin' on Monday...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2012/aug/03/mars-explorer-rover-seven-minutes

if we land this one safely we be the closest thing to being there yet... the rover is HUGE- the size of small car.... runs on radioactive plutonium and lithium-ion batteries- i wonder what its fuel mileage is [Big Grin]

seriously pagan, thanks for making me less lazy-- it's good for me, today i were just was so giddy about knights shorts being pulled down that i forgot the lessons you have been trying so patiently to teach me and had a cut-n-paste manic episode....

i promise to (moslty) do better in the future sensei - ctunpaste si just so easy i, well, and i am just a lazy redneck trying to improve hissself...

I'd missed the governmentium post until now.

That's hilarious.

my favorite part:

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lefton-like particles called peons.

kinda reminds of some of the satire in Gullivers Travels which i want to read agin now that i am old enought to get more of the jokes...

recently i was realising that i didn't know about the term laputa a place inthe story, which when i read Gullivers did not realise meant the whore... i was only like 11, i don;t think i eeven really knew what whore was then

A remarkable and intelligent reply as always from "pagan". Keep up the good work.

Thanks! I do enjoy taking the time to make sure that any new person to Allstocks.com that views your posts knows exactly how ignorant you are about all things. Ya know...thinking of your posts reminds me of sports when a player is found to have been doping. You know, they put an asterrisk next to his name for any records he/she might have set. Allstocks should put an asterisk next to all of your posts. Not for doping...but just for being so stupid! [Were Up]

This coming from someone who thinks throwing money at problems solves them.

Possible Egyptian pyramids found using Google Earth
Posted by TANN Ancient, ArchaeoHeritage, Archaeology, Breakingnews, Egypt, Greater Middle East, Near East 3:00 PM

Two unidentified, possible pyramid complexes have been located with satellite imagery from Google Earth.

http://archaeologynewsnetwork.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/possible-egyptian-pyramids -found-using.html#.UCcryaNqrFz

when i lived in socali i was using USGS and BLM satellite pix to try to find sections of a lost very ancient riverbed that holds gold...

some found sections of it are paying as much as an ounce a ton in placer gold (not ore) i kinda am thinkning i should try to revisit that search with google earth now [Smile]
