This is a shift from preaching conservative family values. Evangelist Pat Robertson's newest cause is the legalization of marijuana. “I really believe we should treat marijuana the way we treat beverage alcohol,” Robertson told The New York Times. “I’ve never used marijuana and I don’t intend to, but it’s just one of those things that I think: this war on drugs just hasn’t succeeded.” Robertson argues that legalizing marijuana is the best way to bring down U.S. incarceration rates. “I believe in working with the hearts of people, and not locking them up,” he said.

I wonder how much in fines collectively that brought in. I remember the govt marijuana farm being located in Mississippi. This was a while back and I think they grew for 8 patients, but since then no federal prescriptions have been made. Personally, I think people being high on weed would be better than people being drunk on whiskey. You can export large amounts of it for textile industries in China. Tax personal use like Tobacco. Sooner or later Tobacco is going to go away for the most part. Thats a lot of income in taxes being lost in times like these. Marijuana I am sure would bring in a premium rate as well. More so than a pack of Camels.

What you *don't* want is RJ Reynolds, et al, etc. getting approved to grow pot legally.

Doing so would be trading the devil you know...

Marijuana *should be* legal, AND it should be restricted to growers on about 10 acres or less--very strictly enforced, very "organic," ie, no pesticides, herbicides, etc.

This would benefit not only the justice system (via less "criminals") but also the economy because small, eco-minded growers don't hoard capital like big corporations do--and they don't risk the health of the soil (which big corps are so, so willing to do).

I totally agree with you on that, who knows what kinds of chemicals they would come up with to make it more addicting.

One of the biggest savings to federal and state budgets would be to make pot legal and turn around and make a revenue generator almost overnight. Not counting the relief on prison space.

This is a real win win . Most American don't realize that marijuana was legal in the U.S. until 1914 and the world did not come to an end.

The real drug problem in this country is alcohol.

How bout we legalize it because there is no constitutional basis to arrest and detain us for using this or any other substance...

The so-called war on drugs...AIN'T WORKING!!!
