With chants of "Run, Russ, Run!" echoing through a Madison theater, former U.S Sen. Russ Feingold signed a petition Saturday to recall Republican Gov. Scott Walker from office.
"Our law says you can be recalled if you attack the people of Wisconsin and that is exactly what this is all about," Feingold told a crowd of several hundred at Madison's Majestic Theatre.
"Our only choice is to remove this governor and lieutenant governor. And we need to do it now," he added.
Feingold spoke for about three minutes and then asked, " Where do I sign?"
As he signed the petitions, the crowd started chanting and urged the Democrat to run against Walker if there is a recall election.
However, after the signing, he reiterated that he will not run for governor, even though polls show Feingold would have the best chance of beating Walker in a recall election.
"There will be a new governor in a few months, but it won't be me," the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel quoted Feingold as saying.
Feingold signed the petition prior to a rally at the Capitol that attracted more than 10,000 people on Saturday
