Well it was made official today that China surpassed Japan and is now the number 2 economy in the world. Thanks to the United States! Listening to Trump go beserk about it too, he thinks we should "tax the hell" out of imports from China to get rid of the deficit. We better start producing more in the USA, or we will be #2 and China will be #1!

I've been screaming about this for years now...the ONLY reason we aren't taxing the hell out of imports is because BOTH parties are OWNED by multi-national corporations....

Actually Pagan this is significant news. Global business eyes are all over this. I could really dig into how it is concerning, and im not even being an alarmist. It can be both good and bad. It can be a light bulb for a graduate level student to decide on international business and finance with an emphasis on China. There are countless reasons why this is important both good and bad. Please dont rotten an economic thread with your usual pessimist babble.

Under the Guangdong proposal, as long as workers first try negotiating and refrain from violence, they're allowed to strike.

The significance to me is how it shifts the balance of power.
Many people on this board have served in the military (Thank you), I have not...... so, at the risk being taken as someone that has no idea what I am talking about.........
Economy is a major factor in being able to wage war when/if it becomes necessary to do so. You couple China's strengthening economy with their massive human resources, advancing tech, and values that are diametrically opposed to ours and you have a confrontation looming.
Nobody wants to go to war.....but you are really not gonna want to piss China off in 10 years.......possibly not today.

I'd be willing to argue that the Chinese do not have values diametrically opposed to ours.
Talk to people in China.. Good folks who love their kids and oddly enough admire America. They adore and trust their government a bit much.. way too much.. but whatever.. They'll learn.
