At 75.00 per barrel why not everyone go get the oil? If it is just laying there to be taken seems we could have a gold rush with oil and put a major dent in the spill? Seems like a lot of money just there for the taking? Maybe BP even pays a premium for the recoverd oil above 75?

i dunno Bob, it's a terrible mess to deal with. a barrel is 42 gallons, just one barrel of water and oil mixed is going to weigh in at between 6 and 8 pounds per gallon.
so take 7lbs? you get just under 300 lbs. per barrel, that's not an easy thing to move around.
that's going to be some water at least. so you aren't going to be paid for all of it.
I had a buddy that went around to gas sations and collected their used oil to sell to a paper mill as fuel oil. They refused anything less than 90% oil which was actually still pretty dirty. He used a special tanker trailer with a burner on it to cook the contaminated oil/antifreeze mix forcing it to separte and drained off the water/antifreeze from the bottom.. I never did ask him what he did with that mess (cuz i just didn't want to know), and it was not cheap to run.
He ended up really sick after working with the stuff his whole life...

OK, i just directly submitted the question about using the top kill connections to syphon the oil directly from the BOP. Unfortunately? They are initiating some junk shots now too, and that will prolly make the BOP at least partially clogged.....
i wonder if they actually read the submissions?

Dunno if they read the submissions. But can you imagine how many armchair "experts" are sumbitting questions/solutions? You never know, there may be a diamond in the rough in those submissions though.

i just want 'em to fix it.... it seems so simple to me , and i cannot imagine they overlooked a simple fix, so i am just trying to set my own mind at ease. it's not like i would or should get a monetary reward for pointing out the obvious.

Ya never know glass. I'm sure many of the submissions have outside-the-box thinking behind them. Could be something that BP has not thought of possibly. I was only being semi-facetious in my earlier post

but i agree with you, i bet there's hundreds of people submitting whacko ideas, then you have the people cursing them and then you have the peopel wanting to "getrichquick"...
i mean, some of the ideas i've seen on TV are whcko, "curtains" in the currents? those people have obvioulsy never tried to set an anchor in the ocaen or anywhere else than their own bathtub for that matter. setting an anchor is not nearly as simple as people would think unless they've done it.
i had to set an anchor (on a 30 footer) in the middle of Oregon Inlet (NC) one time cuz i didn't switch fuel tanks before we came in. I still had fuel but not enough to compensate for the pitch and roll in the inlet, we lost power and once you lose power it takes a good while to refill the lines and the carb, that was a very tense ten minutes....
setting anchors to "curtains"? man that would be a nightmare.

if you watch CNN? they are set up on the Beach at Grande Isle. I wen there last year and loved it. It reminded of the NC Outer Banks when i first started going there in the late 80's.
The sea trout were literally right under our feet in the "surf", you can' even call it surf, it's so calm. There was so many that we didn't even need to bait the hooks (JK)

And un-setting anchors is even worse. Especially if you are the one on the bow fighting with the rope and getting burns and mashed fingers. Been there, done that!

i used to make up wreck anchors out of soft rebar and give them to my friends who took me out on THEIR boats, so i wouldn't have to clean up my own after a hard day of fishing got me invited on a few extra trips...
