Jesse Jackson: You Can't Vote Against Health Care and Call Yourself Black

The Rev. Jesse Jackson said Wednesday night that any black lawmaker who votes against President Obama's sweeping health care overhaul isn't really black, the Hill newspaper reported.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Wednesday night injected race into the national debate on health care, saying any black lawmaker who votes against President Obama's sweeping overhaul isn't really black, the Hill newspaper reported.

"We even have blacks voting against the health care bill," Jackson reportedly said at a Congressional Black Caucus reception Wednesday night honoring the 25th anniversary of the civil rights leader's run for president.

"You can't vote against health care and call yourself a black man," the Hill reported him saying.

The remark was a clear shot at Rep. Artur Davis, D-Ala., the only member of the CBC to vote against the House version of the health care legislation.

Davis refused to return fire against Jackson.

"One of the reasons that I like and admire Rev. Jesse Jackson is that 21 years ago he inspired the idea that a black politician would not be judged simply as a black leader," Davis said in a written statement to the newspaper. "The best way to honor Rev. Jackson's legacy is to decline to engage in an argument with him that begins and ends with race."

Jackson later reportedly said that he "didn't call anybody by name and I won't."

Does anyone really listen to this clown anymore.

His retoric is designed to totally divide not unify, as he commonly babbles about.

Apparently the CBC thinks enough of him to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his failed presidential bid with a huge dinner.

(shrug)

Someone has to be listening to him.

In all fairness Rev Jackson is still a leader in the progressive community and to some degree in the African American community nothing like he was but still a following and people still listen to what he has to say.

Its all just infighting.

I liked Rep Davis reply.

Jackson is just getting crotchety as he ages. Not a unique thing to happen.

True that...

Davis showed real class with his reply.

As for Jackson...he was a racist 25 years ago when he ran for Pres...nothing has changed.

dont know if he's racist but he is pro-black...coming up when he did,,thats understandable...a white man will never understand what a rev jackson or others of his age have gone thru..so try not to throw that word around unless you have some substantive proof.

I don't know where the line between racial pride and prejudice lies, Jordan...but Jackson is so far past it that I would challenge you (or anyone else) to dispute it.

rac·ism (rā'sĭz'əm)
n.
The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.

Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

rac'ist adj. & n.

I hope I don't have to bring up his blatant anti-semitism that basically killed any chance for him in his aforementioned failed presidential run in '84.

Racism isn't the sole domain of the 'evil, white man.' ANYONE that judges someone based on ethnicity first is a racist to some degree or another. Pro-black is nothing more than a pretty word to cover for his anti-nonblacks.

As for what 'rev jackson or others of his age have gone thru'...

In his own words...

“Our dreams must be stronger than our memories. We must be pulled by our dreams, rater than pushed by our memories.”

somehow i don't find it all that relevant.... unless of course he was holding a political office?

He is a scum bag rallying others to be just as worthless as he... How the hell is that not relevant? I don't care if he holds an official office or not.. since when was reality concerned with lines drawn by the delusional?

Wow, so many are quick to call Sarah Palin an idiot when this left wing wacko says garbage like this and it doesnt even get mainstream coverage.

Of course, my statement will be downplayed.

So old idiots get a pass while middle aged idiots are railed upon?
Why can we not treat all idiots the same?
Should there not be equality among the idiots?

Is that the same as ghetto garbage...low income, black, under-educated, unintelligent, under-informed, bums that praise the likes of Jackson and live in the ghettos?

no...not the same...different..

I havent seen many in the ghetto that praise jackson..

to be faIR..I have seen many in the ghetto who praise obama cuz he's black..and they know nothing of his policies...they are part of the ignorant masses also..

the difference is that palin caters to the trailer trash..that is her base.she wants to be portrayed as one of them..

obama and jackson hold themselves to a higher standard,,and I know you know exactly what i am saying...you arent dumb and i'm sure you see palin the same way.

Oh I NEVER said that I endorse Palin...but to be fair, I believe that Palin and Jackson should both be considered idiots...because they are!

AND I believe that trailer trash and ghetto garbage are also no different...to think otherwise is racist...

Palin & Jackson both prey on the ignorant masses...but what is really sad, is that the "ignorant masses" aren't just limited to trailer trash or ghetto garbage...

In fact, anyone who believes that ANY of the politicians from EITHER side are looking out for them, are indeed part of the "ignorant masses"

Not much difference at all. They both have a following not big but they do.

Which reminds me of the advice my father gave me, a hard working blue collar man that I am very proud of.

Anyway his advice If you don't know what to do with your life learn how to talk to people, become a politician and you will be rich in ten years. Its worked for lots of them look at LBJ,Dole, and Clinton.

I gave a few examples don't have room to list them all.

And I am very partisan. That still does not affect my reasoning I know they are all crooks even if you weren't when you first got in you would be in 6 months to much is thrown at you to take for most people.
