August 11, 2009 Terrorists 'have attacked Pakistan nuclear sites three times
The most serious attack was a strike by two suicide bombers on the Wah Cantonment Ordnance Complex, thought to be one of Pakistan’s main nuclear weapons assembly plants, about 18 miles northwest of Islamabad, in August 2008.
The incident, which claimed 70 lives, was widely reported but little mention was made of the nuclear risk.
most of the country’s nuclear weapons sites were built in the north and west of the country in the 1970s and 1980s, mainly to distance them from India — a ploy which now means many are located in insurgent areas. There are also concerns that vetting programmes may not identify Islamist sympathisers, whose influence extends far up Pakistan’s military hierarchy.

the more I look into this mess in the middle east the more I think we took on a tiger by the tail. Viet Nam was terrible but rlegious fanatics that are trying to use nukes is another thing altogerther. These people can actually wipe out a good size section of the earth or maybe all if the get there hands on enough nuclear weapons.
Semms to me we should end our occupation or get it on quick and get out these are not rational people

I agree with you on Afghanistan Glass. I just think Ray did a poor posting by using the phrases "took on a tiger by the tail" "religious fanatics are trying to use nukes" and "these are not rational people"
We had the tiger by the scruff of the neck but then we let go. Religious fanatics want nukes because nukes equal power in a physical way they covet. They do not necessarily want nukes for the sole purpose of using them. And while there may be some within the Taliban and extremest movement whose zeal goes beyond measure it would be a severe miscalculation to assume that the leadership behind the Taliban are anything other than very cold and logical people.

Yes I did do a bad post and thank you . As I look at history there have been a lot of other super powers of the day that tried in that particular area and failed no matter what there reasons were for being there . We say we are there to get rid of the bad guys and I feel that we are But in the long run it is starting to look like British Impearilism more and more. I guess only time will tell.
As I feel now Iraq will need massive US support to stay alive as a ruling government afgan will fair about as well and we could stay engaged like this for a hundered more years. The only thing that we wouldknow for sure is Osama will be dead.
