I am one though i don't play much lately but still know how to more or less. Anyways i love Martins and Gibsons as well as others. I have a Gibson SG. Anyways you should buy and sell used guitars. Alot of guys are making $$ doing that on Ebay and other sites. Buy them used and resell them or restore and resell them.

These are the ones the industry relies on the most especially the first 3. For the most part the Labs didn't grade colored stones but in recent years they have started to grade the 3 precious stones: Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald as well as Tanzanite etc.
The "Natural" rubies on the auction sites are most likely natural BUT they are "enhanced" or "treated" which is why the values are down for some of the listings you see. If you see a stone going for a high price then most likely it is not "treated". Go back and read the product descriptions in the auction listings. You will see:
Treatment: Enhanced
Now treatments/enhancements are not illegal BUT the seller if they are aware of the treatment/enhancement MUST discose this to the potentional buyer or else they will have a legal problem.
There are many kinds of treatments but the most common are heat treatment, irradiation, & fracture filling. Rubies for the most part are usually heat treated as well as sapphires. Emeralds are usually fracture filled. These treatments enhances the stones' color and/or clarities. Thus bringing the values down.
For the most part Labs don't grade treated stones but they will evaluate a stone for treatments if a client suspects there is treatment in a stone that is not easily detectable.
The Labs i listed all do the same thing just that GIA is considered "THE" Lab.. but in reality they all do the same thing. Most employees in each company have worked in one of the other laboratories. Now remember that a Cert is not an appraisal of retail value. Only a report of a Diamonds or Gemstones' grades in terms of color, clarity, cut and carat weight. It's quality in other words.
Also just to let you know almost all colored stones in a jewelry store are "treated". You can tell if they look too "perfect". Except in high end stores such as Tiffany's, Harry Winston, H. Stern etc. If your not sure always ask the sales associate. Sometimes they don't know but most times they do know if they have worked in the industry long enough.
Anyways you also get "treated" or "enhanced" jewelry/stones on HSN (Home Shopping Network) and QVC among others on TV. You will see in the descriptions all the time the word: enhanced. That is why the prices are low there as well.
Treated stones/jewelry are good to buy if you want to impress the wife/gf but not spend alot of money so long as they do not know it's treated and cut your ballz off lol
Anyways if you decide to buy in a store, TV or auction website that you wil find this educational Glass/others. Any questions especially about diamonds just let me know in PM or something.
