In a house is a young woman married to a man who works very hard, and yet she feels neglected. When her husband goes off on still another trip, the young wife meets an attractive man who invites her to his house. She spends the night with him and at dawn she leaves, knowing her husband is soon to return. The bridge she must cross to get home is locked by a madman, who will kill anyone who comes near him. The young wife decides to follow the river and meets a ferryman, however he demands $100 to take her to the other side, but the young woman has no money. She runs back to her new lover and asks him for the money and he refuses. The women then remembers that a platonic friend lives close by. She runs to him and explains her plight. Her friend refuses to get involved, as she has disillusioned him by her conducts. Her only choice is to go by the bridge in spite of the danger, and the madman kills her.

Question: In what order do you hold the people involved responsible for the womans death? Why?

Woman, Husband, Lover, Madman, Ferryman, Fried.

you think the ferryman is more responsible than the lover?

I think the madman is the one ultimately responsible for the death since he killed her. she should have never strayed and it wouldnt be that bad. tough choice.

there is no tough choice the madman is the guilty party he is the only one who committed a terrible crime dispite any circumstances or moral conduct. The madman is the criminal.

My mind sometimes works in unorthodox ways....
and in this scenario I am trying to be objective in spite of my personaly feelings...so even though you did not ask I will try to explain what I was thinking...yeah, I think sometimes.....not that it is very productive [Big Grin]

The woman made a bad choice and she should not have been killed for it; but, her choice led to the event.

The husband was neglectful and therefore aided her choice.

The Friend....I was tempted to put at #1.....simply cause they were the one person that was in the position to alter the outcome, de facto (meaning the infedility) and also, had a personal interest so in my mind should have.

These last three I really struggled with but here we go.

I did not put the madman first because he is stated as "mad." So while he committed the crime.....I interpreted him to be the one that had no outside motivation, and by definition did the crap that "mad" men do.

The ferryman is running a business; but still had the means to help, de facto......

And the lover is doing what lovers do......

So I break it down like this....the first three failed in their committment to each other...so they have the highest degree of culpability.

The one is a murder but insane.

The other two are loose cannons with their only known allegiance, in the scenario, being to themselves.

Is this a joke? - The madman is guilty and most responsible for the crime because he committed the crime -and the woman made a bad decision and paid the price- all the others are simply enablers - worst kind cause will not accept their part in the outcome---

This cracks me up! Everyone blames someone.
The man pulled the trigger(guilty)
The womans choices and circumstances put her into that situation. She could have decide to be honest and wait until the madman was difused, but would have had to make the right decision and tell her husband why she was gone.

Why does doing the right thing scare us so much as to put our lifes in danger? Either in death or just our way of life

I really do not think of it as a joke.....

I am not sure if CCM got this scenario from somewhere or if he just made it up; but, I like it. The commentary is very insightful with regards to how different people view the same situation.

My comments do not reflect what my opinion would be if the I were on the jury of a case such as this.....if this were a trial.....I would be in favor of frying the "madman"....yeah, I realize that I said that he was insane and that this could be interpreted as me wanting to fry insane people......we can argue that later.

The question was "in what order to you hold the people involved accountable".....I did not interpret that to mean simply legally. Therefore I was forced to try and integrate the legal with my own moral views.

If anyone cares to look....I think that a lot of my character was inadvertantly revealed. I have to say that I was suprised.

I totally agree that legally the madman is to blame; but, evidently I still think that many of the "innocent" parties are more accountable.

Woman, Husband, Lover, Madman, Ferryman, Friend

1 Woman
2 Her single divorced friends
3 House Wives
4 Oprah
5 Suzie Orman
6 Woman period!!!

Bush didn't do anything in this case or the liberals. It was the stupid woman who is a stay at home mom living the good life at the price of her husband busting his butt everyday to allow her to stay at home to hang out with her broke friends who whore themselves around to try and feel wanted and hoping to meet a rich guy. House Wives show how to get away with cheating. Oprah wants women to stand up for themselves. Suzie Orman says screw the husband and get half his crap and then half of what he has after the split and still says woman deserve more. (Remember....she is gay). Women are designed to accept gifts, spend, collect child support and live off the system while screwing men over.

Have you ever thought about running for President???....you should look into that!

Your Wisdome is amazing [Wink]

I personaly think the Husband is at fault....He obviously wasn't doing it right in the bedroom. Even if he was busy a lot....When they did get intimate....it should have been good enough to last for how ever long untill the next time the can screw.

they just didn't give us enough background to make the right decision: was it was Reagans fault because that madman was in an insane asylum but Reagan cut the budget to insane asylums tehreby releasing him among "normal" people?

or was it the madmans cheating dad who gave his mom syphyllis while she was pregnant, thus leading to the madman madness? Or was madman mad because he was fishing off the bridge and catching/eating fish poisoned by the industrialist upriver?

I suggest we hire a team of professionals to determine what made him mad and then another team to develop a remediation plan so this can never happen again. [Big Grin]

of course all of these people have advanced college degrees and work for 200$ per hour, so we better budget 5 million for the investigatory team and 20 million for the remediation team.

of course, we could save all that and just allow her to carry the Colt [Roll Eyes]

Whoops! She left the Colt in the glove compartment last weekend and it was stolen along with her stereo.

Bummer!
