Dropping Pretension Of A ‘Grassroots Movement,’ GOP Governors Launch ‘Tea Party 2.0’
Today, Politico reports that Republican Govs. Rick Perry of Texas and Mark Sanford of South Carolina are leading the latest development of the anti-tax, anti-Obama tea party protest movement. Dubbed the “Tea Party 2.0,” the Republican Governors Association will host a telephone conference call on Thursday with thousands of right-wing activists to discuss how “our states’ rights are being trampled upon.”

Official Republican Party involvement is nothing new in the tea party movement. The tea party efforts were initially organized by corporate lobbyists and GOP consultants, and later advertised for by Fox News. But by the time of the April 15 protests, hundreds of state and federal Republican office holders headlined events across the country. Eventually, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and RNC Chairman Michael Steele all but declared ownership of the protests.

Ironically, the governors who are now using an official apparatus of the Republican Party to coordinate the tea party conference call were the same governors perpetuating the lie that the movement was entirely spontaneous, without any grass-tops involvement:

– Gov. Mark Sanford: “I was struck by the recent Tea Party rallies in Columbia, Charleston, and Greenville, where thousands of South Carolinians turned out in a spontaneous display of protest against reckless government spending.” [Post-Courier, 4/27/09]

– Gov. Rick Perry: “It’s a very organic thing,” he says, “a very powerful moment, I think, in American history.” On Tax Day, he told cheering veterans: “I’m just not real sure you’re a bunch of right-wing extremists. But if you are, we’re with you.” [Daily Press, 4/27/09]

Dropping any pretension that the tea parties are a citizens’ movement rather than a partisan ploy, an official working with the Republican governors said the effort was part of a “springboard” to raise funds for gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia.

i don't mind them protesting.

stealing the name of teaparties is slimy.

these gop cretins already broke US. i don't want to pay any more taxes than anybody else, but i find this attempt to "patriotise" their political ploys repulsive.

how else did they expect to pay for the war in Iraq and Afghanistan?

lowering taxes during wartime is stoooopid.

Now they are talking about soda taxes? the FDA is mad at Cheerios for claiming that their oats and fiber helps your heart and the FDA says thats a drug? WTF is going on with these people? No more tax cuts for businesses that provide health care, no more marginal well tax breaks for small independent producers, vending machine taxes....

TAX TAX TAX!!!! New taxes new taxes!

This is exactly what was predicted last year on the dems gaining control.

Why are libs making fun of tea parties when there was a massive kool aid movement called "yes we can rallies"

cash, you see now why it is so important to police your own party? this is what we lose when we allow our own people to screw up.

whichever party wins the moderate voters gets to make the rules.

whichever party seems the least extreme gets the moderate vote.

the FDA should be going after drug co's that make deadly drugs not cheerios.

Fox News pumps Tea Party 2.0.
Today, the Republican Governors Association (RGA) will be hosting a fundraiser teleconference with “thousands of right-wing activists” that they have dubbed “Tea Party 2.0.” Govs. Rick Perry (R-TX) and Mark Sanford (R-SC) plan to discuss how “our states’ rights are being trampled upon.” Just like the lead up to the last tea party event, Fox News plugged the event on air. Last night, Fox’s Greta Van Sustern introduced a segment on today’s even, saying, “If you wanted to go to a tea party on April 15 but could not make it or there was none in your hometown, tomorrow’s your big chance.” The chyron read, “TO SIGN UP FOR TEA PARTY 2.0 GO TO WWW.THEGOPCOMEBACK.COM

Obama Says U.S. Long-Term Debt Load ‘Unsustainable’

By Roger Runningen and Hans Nichols

May 14 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama, calling current deficit spending “unsustainable,” warned of skyrocketing interest rates for consumers if the U.S. continues to finance government by borrowing from other countries.

“We can’t keep on just borrowing from China,” Obama said at a town-hall meeting in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, outside Albuquerque. “We have to pay interest on that debt, and that means we are mortgaging our children’s future with more and more debt.”

Holders of U.S. debt will eventually “get tired” of buying it, causing interest rates on everything from auto loans to home mortgages to increase, Obama said. “It will have a dampening effect on our economy.”

The article continues on. Can you believe this crap? Obama talking about this now after he was called out on it before the "stimuluous" packages was rushed through.

YOU CANT BLAME OTHERS FOREVER! All this boring b.s. about how its all the Republicans fault is getting old...ALREADY. Its always someone elses fault isnt it Nancy Pelosi! BAH!
