It doesn't please the medical profession to have it pointed out that this ain't a science or even close to one.

"Back surgeons once lobbied to kill the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality after it found "insufficient evidence" supporting certain spine operations — not that they didn't work, just that more evidence was needed."

that ought to create quite a stir...

what are the makers of lyrica and all the other brand new pain killers going to do when this panel points out that hydrocodone( vicodin) is 1/20th the price, and basically safe as long as you aren't an abuser... the tests on lyrica showed that druggies liked it too..

my last cholesteral tes showed a slightly elevated LDL (not bad, but going up) LDL carries and makes cholesteral available to build up on the arteries..
the doc says do you eat fish? i say yes. but only once or twice a month cuz the fresh selection here is not that good...

he prescribed me fish oil... he says he wants me to take this prescription, not buy OTC, cuz you never know the quality...

so i filled the script... my benefits are good, it was still 30$ i looked at eh paperwork? my insurance "saved" me 143$ so it says...

fish oil capsules for 175$? i can order a slab of sashimi grade Ahi flown in overnight for that...

another story?

i was waiting to be seen and the doc sees a drug rep in th hall just as he's geting ready to open the door to my cubicle...

he asks the rep about another rep that he wants to be his partner in the upcoming golf tourney...

the rep replies that the one he was asking about got promoted to a new product line so he'll have to get a differnet rep to partner with him in the co' sponsored tourney... i wonder how many statins he had to prescribe to get the partner he wants?

now, i like my doctor, he doesn't beleiv in sending you to eh surgeon for minor crap like bulging discs (as long as you can stand the pain )

but every time i go there? there's half a dozne drug reps wandering the halls waitng to see the docs between appointments.. it's a large office area with several doctors...

Sadly, I know of physicians that are still insisting that stomach ulcers are caused by nerves and still are prescribing soft diets and rest as a cure. I recently found out they are still teaching that nonsense in medical schools. http://heartburn.about.com/cs/articles/a/Ulcer_Causes.htm

I went through pure Hell a couple of years back when I was falsely diagnosed to have lung cancer (it wasn't the fear of death that was the hell, it was the knowledge that they had little idea what they were doing other than prescribing ways to get the largest fees and they insisted I had no right to know what they were doing or why) and was ordered to report 5 days later for a massive out of date operation in which they would remove about 1/3 of my lungs via a procedure I knew had been superseded twenty or twenty-five years before. Fortunately, I had a friend in the trade and he steered me to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, who started by proving I didn't have cancer of any kind to begin with.

We do not have the best health care on Earth or even close to that. Indeed, we rank 37th on the list, well below several Mideastern Arab nations and several in Asia, and barely above Cuba and Slovenia. http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html
There are more problems with health care in the U.S. than can be addressed simply by federal legislation on health insurance, though that must be addressed before much else can be.
