Hershey closing Peppermint Patties plant in Pa.

READING, Pa.

A flag is flying at half-staff outside The Hershey Co. plant in Reading where production of York Peppermint Patties is ending.

After 23 years in Reading, the chocolate maker is closing the plant Friday and moving production to a new factory it has built in Monterey, Mexico. It will mean the loss of 300 jobs in the southeastern Pennsylvania city.

The plant also makes 5th Avenue and Zagnut candy bars and Jolly Rancher hard candies.

The nation's largest candy manufacturer said two years ago the plant would close as part of a wider move by Hershey to eliminate 1,500 jobs and one-third of its existing production lines, shifting more manufacturing to contractors in the U.S

Hey, think about the positive side of this.

With Mexican labor so much cheaper, first rate hotels can get those little mints they put on your bed every day cheaper. Can't you imagine how much lower your hotel bill will be. They are doing this for us.

add another 590 deadbeats to the list:

Minntac To Layoff 590 Workers

U-S Steel announced that it will lay off approximately 590 workers and idle two more of its five lines at its Minntac Plant in Mountain Iron.

U-S Steel announced that it will lay off approximately 590 workers and idle two more of its five lines at its Minntac Plant in Mountain Iron. That will leave only two active lines. According to Public Affairs Manager Courtney Boone, the layoffs are a result of decreased customer orders and a weak economy. Boone said the layoffs are temporary, and workers could return if the market improves, however, she gave no indication of what that time-line might be for calling back workers. The layoffs are expected to be enacted over the next two to three weeks. Boone says customer orders have been declining leaving the mine with no choice but to reduce production. Senator Amy Klobuchar, who made a sweep through Minnesota Thursday, said she hopes the "Buy American" clause in the stimulus bill might help put some Iron Range miners back to work.

Now, glass, you aren't being fair. It wasn't the Black Caucaus alone. In fact, without the labor unions making being a lazy deadbeat fashionable, the Black Caucaus would never have been able to think up their part in this economic downturn, considering that everyone knop that "those people" just don't have the character or mental acumen for that much creativity.
