There are serious lessons and forbidding predictions in this.

It is important for us to realize that the future is not based solely on whatever religion or form of government we practice, if at all. Quite possibly, the society we have is merely the good fortunes of a mild and humid climate and, with a drastic change in climate, nature will look with dramatic disfavor on the one we think is best... maybe on the human race altogether.

Interesting article Bdgee, thanks for posting it.

One thing I noticed, is that the mid 14th-century monsoon weakening coincides with a huge drought in the South-Western US, one that is believed to have caused the decline of the Anasazi Culture.

I've seen othe articles that show the samesorts of blossoming and wilting of societies according to the state of the environment too.

It is something that most people seem to not want to see. It is something that most people need to stop and carefully consider and without any politicians directing their conclusions.

well.. isn't that quite obvious?
Our mild climate over the last hundred thousand years has brought us to a point where we can actually argue about petty things?... We've become so acclimated by virtue of our myopia that we haven't any clue to the vicious side of a cyclical environment.
No matter the style of philosophy of government.

And does this not "jive" with my blatherings about desiring an asteroid's visit?
We as common folk simply do not have it within us to take control.. seems nature.. or chaos.. has the ability to change our "leaders" for us.

I've gone into this before on other threads...

IMO, the problem is that climate cycles are generally much longer than a human lifetime. This makes it not only hard to comprehend, but easy to ignore.

Unfortunately, nature has no pity for the unprepared, and we my friends, are woefully unprepared.

On a side note...

While there is no proven connection, if one compares the cycles of the monsoon given in the article to sunspot numbers gained via proxy from Carbon14 isotopes over the last 1000 years, there appears to be a correlation. Low sunspot numbers seem to match up with a weak monsoon, and high sunspot numbers seem to match up with a strong monsoon.

Ah ok, thanks Glass.

Sorry Relentless, I'm not trying to start up a religious discussion, I just was curious... While I am not religious myself, I have read the Christian Bible from cover to cover and couldn't recall any mention of the Earth being destroyed by fire. To my recollection, there is only the promise that it will never again be destroyed by water...

Doesn't really matter if the bible specifically says the date and time of anything happening in the future..
The point is that the bible was written by men.. not an omnipotent creator.

For starters:

2 Peter 3 - The Day of the Lord Will Come

1This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them(A) I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, 2(B) that you should remember the predictions of(C) the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, 3knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come(D) in the last days with scoffing,(E) following their own sinful desires. 4(F) They will say, "Where is the promise of(G) his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation." 5For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth(H) was formed out of water and through water(I) by the word of God, 6and that by means of these the world that then existed(J) was deluged with water and(K) perished. 7But by the same word(L) the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and(M) destruction of the ungodly.

8But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and(N) a thousand years as one day. 9(O) The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise(P) as some count slowness, but(Q) is patient toward you,[a](R) not wishing that any should perish, but(S) that all should reach repentance. 10But(T) the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then(U) the heavens will pass away with a roar, and(V) the heavenly bodies[b] will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.[c]

11Since all these things are thus to be dissolved,(W) what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12(X) waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and(Y) the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13But according to his promise we are waiting for(Z) new heavens and a new earth(AA) in which righteousness dwells.

Final Words

14(AB) Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him(AC) without spot or(AD) blemish, and(AE) at peace. 15And count(AF) the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as(AG) our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you(AH) according to the wisdom given him, 16as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters.(AI) There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction,(AJ) as they do the other Scriptures. 17You therefore, beloved,(AK) knowing this beforehand,(AL) take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18But(AM) grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.(AN) To him be the glory both now and to the day of(AO) eternity. Amen.

And does this not "jive" with my blatherings about desiring an asteroid's visit?

Revelation 6 speaks of this asteroid visit.

The following also explains when the Lamb sends out the Four Horsemen - Glass, you might enjoy that. I know that you had a mention of "switching horses on the way to the appocolypse" some time ago.

Revelation 4-6 -

Revelation 4
The Throne in Heaven

1After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me(A) like a trumpet, said, (B) "Come up here, and(C) I will show you what must take place after this." 2At once(D) I was in the Spirit, and behold,(E) a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. 3And he who sat there had the appearance of(F) jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was(G) a rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald. 4Around the throne were(H) twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders,(I) clothed in white garments, with(J) golden crowns on their heads. 5From the throne came(K) flashes of lightning, and rumblings[a] and peals of thunder, and before the throne were burning(L) seven torches of fire,(M) which are the seven spirits of God, 6and before the throne there was(N) as it were a sea of glass, like crystal.

And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are(O) four living creatures,(P) full of eyes in front and behind: 7(Q) the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature like an eagle in flight. 8And the four living creatures,(R) each of them with six wings, are(S) full of eyes all around and within, and(T) day and night they never cease to say,

(U) "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,
(V) who was and is and is to come!"

9And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne,(W) who lives forever and ever, 10the twenty-four elders(X) fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast(Y) their crowns before the throne, saying,
11(Z) "Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for(AA) you created all things,
and(AB) by your will they existed and were created."

Revelation 5
The Scroll and the Lamb

1Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne(AC) a scroll written within and on the back,(AD) sealed with seven seals. 2And(AE) I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?" 3And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it, 4and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. 5And one of the elders said to me, "Weep no more; behold,(AF) the Lion(AG) of the tribe of Judah,(AH) the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals."

6And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw(AI) a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with(AJ) seven eyes, which are(AK) the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne. 8And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders(AL) fell down before the Lamb,(AM) each holding a harp, and(AN) golden bowls full of incense,(AO) which are the prayers of the saints. 9And they sang(AP) a new song, saying,

"Worthy are you to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
for(AQ) you were slain, and by your blood(AR) you ransomed people for God
from(AS) every tribe and language and people and nation,
10and you have made them(AT) a kingdom and priests to our God,
and they shall reign on the earth."

11Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering(AU) myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12saying with a loud voice,(AV) "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!" 13And I heard(AW) every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!" 14And the four living creatures(AX) said, "Amen!" and the elders(AY) fell down and worshiped.

Revelation 6
The Seven Seals

1Now I watched when the Lamb opened one of(AZ) the seven seals, and I heard(BA) one of the four living creatures say(BB) with a voice like thunder,(BC) "Come!" 2And I looked, and behold,(BD) a white horse! And(BE) its rider had a bow, and(BF) a crown was given to him, and he came out(BG) conquering, and to conquer.

3When he opened the second seal, I heard(BH) the second living creature say, "Come!" 4And out came another horse,(BI) bright red. Its rider was permitted(BJ) to take peace from the earth, so that people should slay one another, and he was given a great sword.

5When he opened the third seal, I heard the(BK) third living creature say, "Come!" And I looked, and behold,(BL) a black horse! And its rider had a pair of scales in his hand. 6And I heard what seemed to be a voice in the midst of the four living creatures, saying,(BM) "A quart[b] of wheat for a denarius,[c] and three quarts of barley for a denarius, and(BN) do not harm the oil and wine!"

7When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of(BO) the fourth living creature say, "Come!" 8And I looked, and behold,(BP) a pale horse! And its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed him. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill(BQ) with sword and with famine and with pestilence and(BR) by wild beasts of the earth.

9When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under(BS) the altar(BT) the souls of those who had been slain(BU) for the word of God and for(BV) the witness they had borne. 10They cried out with a loud voice, "O Sovereign Lord,(BW) holy and true,(BX) how long(BY) before you will judge and(BZ) avenge our blood on(CA) those who dwell on the earth?" 11Then they were each given(CB) a white robe and(CC) told to rest a little longer,(CD) until the number of their fellow servants[d] and their brothers[e](CE) should be complete, who were to be killed as they themselves had been.

12When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold,(CF) there was a great earthquake, and(CG) the sun became black as(CH) sackcloth, the full moon became like blood, 13and(CI) the stars of the sky fell to the earth(CJ) as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale. 14(CK) The sky vanished(CL) like a scroll that is being rolled up, and(CM) every mountain and island was removed from its place. 15Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave[f] and free,(CN) hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, 16(CO) calling to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of(CP) him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, 17for(CQ) the great day of their wrath has come, and(CR) who can stand?"

God doesn't have the ability to write anything.. free will forbids it..

The words of God in the flesh, Jesus:

Matthew 24
1And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.

2And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

3And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

4And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

5For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

6And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8All these are the beginning of sorrows.

9Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

10And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

11And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

12And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

13But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

14And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

15When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

16Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

17Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:

18Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

19And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

20But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

21For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

22And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

23Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.

24For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

25Behold, I have told you before.

26Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

27For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

28For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

29Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

30And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

31And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

32Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

33So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

34Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

35Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

36But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

37But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

39And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

40Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

41Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

42Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

43But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.

44Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

45Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

46Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

47Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.

48But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;

49And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;

50The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,

51And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
